Reported: Jacoby Jones Arrested

Hey all, I just got word from my stepdad (who's a HPD officer) that one of his policemen buddies just arrested Jacoby Jones for DWI.

I doubt this news is out yet, but what do ya'll make of it, and what potential consequences are there for him?

DUI's are terrible, though I can think of a lot worse things. I drive a motorcycle, so I hate drunk drivers more than most. Not sure where this paragraph is going, but I can't see any real repercussions coming from this from the Texans. Probation for a few years, no license for a few months. Eh. Get a chauffeur.

Wish I had something useful to contribute. Take a cab, JJ.

but what do ya'll make of it, and what potential consequences are there for him?

If this is true...that's too bad. If its a first offense, its a misdemeanor that will likely have him pay a fine and I think maybe a little probation.

If you kill someone in a DUI accident, you can get up to 20 years prison time per person that is killed.

Will edit title to make it clear that is a rumor and will track thread closely. If nothing comes of this a relatively short time frame will close thread.

1st offense

Texas Criminal Status: Class B Misdemeanor

Jail: Minimum 72 hours, or 6 days if open container is present.

Texas DWI Fines/Costs: Fine not to exceed $2,000. Other administrative and evaluation fees may be assessed. TX imposes a “surcharge” for a DWI on top of regular fines. The surcharge is $1,000 per year for three years for a first DWI offense and $2,000 if the person’s BAC level was double or more the legal limit (.16). Texas License Suspension: Yes, 1 year. Attending DWI Education class may avoid this. Occupational license may be granted based on need.

Violation of Zero Tolerance Law: N/A

Texas Conditional License: A conditional, or occupational license, may be issued based on "essential need" and usually only when the court orders an offender into alcohol assessment/rehabilitation. Offenders who have been granted occupational licenses within 10 years are ineligible. For definitions of “essential need”, see Transportation Code Section 521.241.

Vehicle Impound: None

Texas DWI School: First time offenders must complete a 12 hour DWI Education Program within 180 days of when probation was granted or risk having their license revoked.

Texas Probation: Terms of probation decided by judge or jury.

Texas Community Service: 24 hours required, but no more than 100 hours.

Thanks for the exact stats...I was trying to recite from memory.

Understandable.

Sorry for getting a tad bit off topic, but the guy who arrested him according to my step-dad (His name's Zach, I played FF with him this past year) took a look in JJ's phone and he had Ocho Cinco's number, along with a few others. :o Pretty cool that a 4th string WR would have his number, imo.

I guess any Bengal would be a good source for legal representation. They would know the in and outs of getting arrested for stupid stuff.

How stupid can this kid be? You make good money - call a damn cab. Why risk a DUI?

Which reminds me, the cop found a check stub in his car, 750,000 dollars. O_O

I hope it's not true and I agree the thread should be removed if a credible source cannot be found (not saying your info. is "incorrect" AnthonyE or that your making this up)! I just want to see a "publication", whose credibility is on the line (and not on an internet message board) confirm this. :shades:

Are you calling me a liar?!

rofl, jk. No, I realize that a story like this is very likely to not be true. However, because I believe (while some may not) my stepdad and his friend, who I know as well, to be credible sources. Trust me, if I were one of you and heard this from a 3rd hand source, I'd be just as skeptical.

It would take a while for this story to break into main stream, if true, being as who is Jacoby Jones?

Best bet would be local police blotter.

Dunno...

This thread should be removed until a more concrete source can be found. Unless AnthonyE's stepdad's friend (sounds like my brother's cousin's brother's best friend to me) is willing to step forward...

This is a guys rep we are talking about here...

Everybody relax, it says RUMOR in the title, Arilington Texan has already stepped in and said how it will be handled and aptly I might add. I think everyone here can discern what is going on. There are a few hundred loyal fans on here and that's about it, that would defend him if it is not true. His rep is fine at the moment.

This is how the garbage about Jeff Alm started. People still fervently believe it's true, even though it's the complete opposite of true.

And Richard Gere likes geribals....I understand what you are saying, I think it is being managed properly by the Mods, we don't want this to be true. Most of us anyway *looks over shoulder for Blazing Arrow*. I sincerely hope this is not the case also.

I am pretty a skeptical person generally speaking anyway.

Jeff Alm? I have no clue what was said there, first I have heard of it.

hence the rumor :)

The whole point is that people will pass this on and eventually the rumor part will fall out of the "translation" as it makes the story more "interesting".

I am positive that tomorrow, one of the sports talk shows will have a caller that asks about JJ's arrest.

Must have been a rumor in the Houston area. It involved Alm and his "buddy".

Real easy to verify.. Call the Harris County Jail, see if they have a Jacoby Jones, date of birth July 11, 1984, in custody.

One of the attorneys on here could get on the Internet to the Harris County JIMS system and see if its true.

I did some googling and found out. What a bizarre story and sad ending. I was just out of high school and headed to college, wasn't really paying attention to the new in them days.

Not to give this anymore "legs" then (at this time at least) it deserves but, to clarify the orginal post read 6+ hours ago: "Jacoby Jones Arrested?". Arlington Texan rightfully changed it to the present header.

Not trying to start trouble but there were about 50 different sides that came up with a similar story on the Alm deal..cops swearing it was true, etc.. and I have a hard time believing some part is not true. JMO. Just too much of whio said what still out there. As far as Jacoby...just wait until things come out.

Let's not make this thread about Jeff Alm. I assure you, it's not true. Back to JJ. If it's true, I hope he fixes his problems fast. This stuff won't fly in Houston, and he knows it.

Well, he was arrested for something last night...

Well, crap. This sucks. It's his name, it's Harris County, and it's his birthday.

I HATE it when Texans players get in trouble with the law, because it takes the sting out of my constant attacks on the Dallas Cowboy fans in my family. I love to remind them about all the crack, arrests, drug dealing, and how PacMan Jones will be joining the team soon. (Not that he definitely will, but I love telling them how he's a perfect fit)... so it gives me little ground to stand on when our guys screw up.

One thing to note.... there is an arrest, but no details on a charge.

If he got down there and didn't blow a .08, they might not have charged him with a DWI.

Funny that this comes up. I had a buddy in from Colorado Springs last week that told me about this. I told him that I heard this story is an urban legend. Not to mention that it gets mentioned every now and then on the sports talk stations.

I was living in the Dallas area back then and had no idea of what the rumor around Houston was. Seems like there's a couple of versions of it going around.

One rumor is that the other guy was closer than a friend. The other rumor is that he was performing a friendly service at the time of the accident and injured Jeff.

Which one is it?

Back to the topic...DWI's happen every night. It's no surprise that one of them happens to be a local celebrity every now and then.

I don't really think it's very professional of the cops to be going through the guy's cellphone after they arrest him.

Sorry I wasn't trying to but being as one of the attorneys here I'm sure others have hung out with their brethren and heard stuff like "I know a cop that swears by it." At least the DA guys I know have...

As far as JJ. It happens. We all make mistakes. Bad mistake but nothing you can't get through and learn from. I hope it helps him grow up.

He's only 23 and mistakes will happen. This could actually have a positive effect on his life and maturing process as a man. If not....................we could always trade him to the cowgirls.

I guess it's OK to remove the RUMOR and the "?" now.

C'mon JJ, let's start focusing on NEXT year...we need another KR/PR in the Pro-Bowl!

Take a bunch of money and throw it at a young person who never had that kind of money before, and it's a recipe for disaster.

Not that a 3rd round draft choice is loaded with money, but still NFL pay is quite a bit higher than cooking burgers at McDonalds or starting pay in almost any field.

I know nothing about JJ personally, having read nothing about his personal life, but I hope he makes it through this. He has a fantastic future with the Texans and I hope he pulls through this. I also hope we, as fans, keep some perspective on this.

Well said Thorn.

It still sucks though, I hope he learns his lesson here and turns into a positive.

Maybe instead of arguing about non-football issues you should switch to football issues. The Cowboys have had a pretty clean ship of late. Other teams have had far more transgressions the past decade. Now, if they sign PacMan they are making a deal with the devil and they deserve any smack they get, but its been pretty quiet there lately especially when compared to other teams, our own included.

If you want to run smack at Cowboy fan in your family, you can still get results and stick to football. romo choking, romo fumbling a freaking hold to lose a playoff game, roy williams not being able to cover his own shadow, drafting bobby carpenter in the first round, jones putting NFC championship tickets at players lockers and coming onto the field and constantly being a distraction, driving Parcells out of town for Wade Phillips, and of course the nuclear option 19-10.

Take a bunch of money and throw it at anyone that has never had that kind of money before can equal a recipe for disaster.

I don't see where this is a money issue. You don't have to be rich to get arrested for DWI. As far as the 'guys from the hood' not being able to manage their lives comment, hook up a breathalyzer to half the people leaving Reliant on any given Sunday and Harris Co. would have their quota of DWIs for a year.

That’s not what we are talking about. What was the point, at least was my point, is that folks that go from no money to suddenly lots of money make decisions that are not so good sometimes.

Again, I have no idea of what is going through JJ’s mind or what caused him to drive while drunk, if indeed, it ever gets proved.

That’s not what we are talking about.

We (if you include me) are talking about your point on one hand, and mine on another. Jacoby could still be working at the hardware store in Franklin TN and have made the same bad decision.

As long as we're generalizing and hypothesizing, people often rush to judgement on these things - playing the convenient 'young guy with a lot of new cash' or 'guy from the hood who can't manage his life' card, especially when this happens to highly visible sports figures. I don't know why he did it - and really don't care. I'm just glad he didn't hurt anyone, or himself, and hope he gets it turned around whatever the reason.

I know a 18 year old kid from a middle income, good family that got a DWI the other night. No recent cash windfall and no 'hood upbringing. But he made a major error in judgement and is now in serious doo. Another lesson learned, I hope.

:doot: Yay, I'm not a liar!

But in seriousness, it's a shame that this happened. I was hoping for big things out of Jacoby this year, and that he might have had a crazy 2nd year jump like Mario did. Oh well, I'm sure that this won't have an effect on the season. He can just pay his fees and serve is time. I'm wondering if Kubiak will do anything about it though.

I imagine the Texans will not take this lightly and could get a fine from the league, Goodell is pretty tough on these types of things and rightfully so.

Damn, JJ, damn. I hope he takes this as a learning experience and keeps his nose clean from here on out.

Depends I guess. Hunter Pence got a DWI last year and it has blown over for him. I quoted TMV because that is exactly what was being said at the time about Pence. I hope he learns from this as well, assuming it's a DUI/DWI. That's nothing at all to take lightly.

So, what's the facts so far?

I will admit in a minute I am wrong. That's because quite often I am. LOL

Houston Texans wide receiver Jacoby Jones is free on bail after being arrested near downtown early early this morning on suspicion of drunk driving, officials said.

Jones, 23, was stopped by HPD patrol officers about 3 a.m. on Chartres near Gray near downtown, officials said.

A Houston police spokesman didn't know what caused the officers to become suspicious of Jones, who was selected by the Texans during the third round of last year's NFL draft.

"It was basically a DWI investigation," said HPD Sgt. John Chomiak. "There was no accident involved."

Jones was taken into custody and charged with driving while intoxicated — his first offense. The bail was set at $500, which was paid later Sunday morning.
