I could live with that. With Mendenhall and Stewart off the boards I could see Williams being the pick. Phillips, Talib, or Flowers wouldn't surprise me either.

I did have Ryan dropping but not real impressed with what KC has @ QB either (Brodie Croyle, Damon Huard, Tyler Thigpen, David Greene) safe pick would be Clady, but when you have the chance to get the top QB prospect in his class you at least consider him. here is a Kansas City Star poll of who the fans want (Jake Long) but if he's gone Matt Ryan is 2nd-

I realize that I just posted this post combine mock without any explanation of reasoning, so I digress. This is more of a draft board where I feel prospects stock value fall. some really helped their cause (Dominack Rodgers-Cromartie) others solidified placement (both Longs) while a few dissapointed (Sedric Ellis, Kenny Phillips). I'm not a beleiver in reaching for need, although this happens every draft, this mock are my current draft projections based upon bpa.

example:

Texans pick OT Chris Williams. we all know & feel they take a cb in the 1st rd. but if bpa is a LT how do they pass when this position is also a concern? now is a better LT prospect than Otah? for this system, yes but for Philly Otah is a better fit. both higher rated prospects in my view than Albert or Baker.

I don't know why its so hard to get more information about players measureables post combine, guess I'll have to wait for ourlads scouting services draft guide to come out, but prior to the combine draft scout among others where saying, "At 6-foot-6 and 315 pounds, he has the wingspan and size any team likes in a blindside protector". Arm length is important but if its at least 32" it should not be debilitating for him to overcome, its more about hand placment anyways, even Jake Long admitted he holds almost every play & uses technique to hide it. the critical thing would seem to be his footwork & foot speed to adjust & seal off the outside while maintaining enough leverage (staying low) to block the bull/inside push.

Just cuz the fans want Ryan doesn't mean that they would draft him.

If that were the case, then us Texans fans would be wearing Reggie Bush or Vince Young jerseys instead of Mario Williams.

A couple of days ago I read through about a dozen or so mock drafts, and way over half of them had us taking a RB in the first round. Not that these mock drafts have any thing to do with reality.

I think our first pick will be determined by what position we didn't help ourselves with in free agency. Still, I like us getting a good OT or center in the first round. I think it will be cheaper to pick up a few servicable DBs in free agency, than linemen.

speaking of QB's was watching NFL Network earlier & heard John Gruden telling his QB (not sure who it was) the play call, very in depth, while the QB looked completely lost. Gruden is very cerebral that way something he could have in common with Bhrom. very important to be on the same page with the coach, you can talk measureables all day but in the end communication skills are just as important.

you may be right.

this is based according to bpa & Brohm is nor rated this high on my draft board even though QB makes sense. maybe Matt Ryan slips, maybe they trade down or maybe KC reaches #5 like Arizona did last draft for Levi Brown & take Clady? who knows what teams are gonna do for sure, this is based upon my own projections for each team based on bpa that fill high priority needs

According to WalterFootball.com, Williams has an arm length of 32 7/8 inches and did 21 bench presses. He will definately have to work on his upper body strength. As for footwork, I don't know how he did, compared to other OT's, in the drills at the Combine, but he did have one of the better 40 times.

He has just had an average post-season. He has worked himself into a second rounder, and may in fact have to slide inside to guard.

With the Dolphins having Joey Porter and Reggie Torbor as their OLB's, and then they've signed Randy Starks and traded for Jason Ferguson for NT: does it have any effect on them NOT drafting Chris Long (or Ellis/Dorsey)???

What's the possibility of them taking Jake Long now?? They could actually have a pretty solid OL if the resign Hadnot and draft Jake Long, wouldn't you think?

It helps Baker value to play gurad while transitioning to the tackle position against NFL competition. the emergence of Brandon Albert as the top Guard prospect (Seattle target) going to Pittsburgh replacing Faneca to protect the 100 million dollar big Ben along with Anthony Collins dissapointing combine lead me to evalute the next best guard prospect. this is a projection based on Bakers size, technique, attitude, intelligence & experience to have the biggest impact/success against NFL competition.

His LT experience is still invalueable in a back-up role. Sam has a good history of weight training & until this past was season injury free. Don't know how you correct foot speed, arm length & the perception of being soft until you take the field & prove yourself. All I'm saying if he does go in the 1st rd. late, he will have to prove himself all over again & that pathway probably begins @ the LG position.

Is McKelvin better than DRC? Cromartie is 3 inches taller then McKelvin and maybe even a little faster. Plus, the level of competition is about the same.

I understand your post but I would not select a back up player in the first round unless I was maybe bottom five picking. If I signed Baker or anyone else as top 27 player, he should be my starter.

career back-ups are selected all the time in the 1st rd. some even wash out as the number one overall pick (I'm not going to mention names ) & for the record in this mock I was projecting Baker as the starting LG (Alberts gone @ #23). I'm just saying he also provides versatility as the back-up LT, at least until Walters retires or injured. there is added value in a back-up plan IMO
