Which positions would you be most upset about us drafting in the first round?

There are a couple that I just absolutely DO NOT want us to address:

1. Quarterback - please don't do it.
2. Wide Receiver - while a team could always use an upgrade, we have plenty of receivers to compete on this team, we don't need to go out and spend a first rounder on a WR.
3. Defensive line - we have spent 3 in a row on DL and while we could use another stud on the DL, we really need to spread the first rounders around a bit.

Positions I would be most pleased with:

1. Cornerback
2. Offensive Line

You might get mad on draft day then.:gun:

1. QB - Reasons stated above
2. K
3. P

These are the only positions I don't want to see a 1st rounder drafted for. Anything else is completely fair.

Long snapper.

I feel pretty strong about the wide receiver position, too. I've heard the occassional ***** suggest the Texans are in deep need of another wide receiver (sorry, no source). I am very happy with the wide receivers the Texans have.

In honesty, though, I'm of the opinion that the talent has really been raised over the last two years, and the Texans don't need that many players. Running back, left tackle, center, safety, cornerback. If they get five talented guys during the offseason - just those five - then they have filled all the major holes I see. I say major cause it would be nice to get another DE, DT, or LB, but I don't see what we have in those positions already as a major roadblock to the Texans' success.

That would be one of the benefits of the move back. Banging some depth. Beerlovers list of DT FAs caused me to reveiw the draft class. there are several of them there. I like Maddox alot. But there are several guys who would fill the bill.
Thought the short and stumpy guy from Norte Dame had a very good senior bowl week. More of an Amobi type than a run a stuffer. Gotta figure Red Bryant of A & M is going off the board prety early in day two.

13. Trevor Laws Notre Dame 6-1 295 5.00
14. Jason Shirley Fresno St. 6-5 330 5.10
18. Ahtyba Rubin Iowa St. 6-3 330 5.15

I thought Rubin had a prety good week at the senior bowl. Those three might fall to the six pick.

I also think there is a herd of reciever tallent. I wouldn't be shocked if they take one on the second day late. Offensive minded head coach...like a kid at candy store watching the confectioner putting the candy out...he might not be able to help himself.

The Bryan Pittman fan club reps ya.

If the OU kicker falls through the draft....I wouldn't mind a FA sniff. No way he beats out brown...but he has/had a leg on him. He's got the yipps right now.

I would be very upset with: SS, WR, FB, QB, and....RB. There is too much depth in this class of RB to spend a first round pick on one. You can get high quality depth in the 3rd round, or second in a trade down. CB, FS, and OL are the way to go.

The one thing that sets Trev apart from most DT coming out of college is his hands, he knows when to put them in the air, I think he had 8 or 9 tipped passes this year alone.

Would Rep you for that. I think that's a big bonus when a DT has the presence to get his hands up in the air and at least disrupt passing lanes. While Ty Willingham's classes might not be nearly front end heavy looks like he just brought in steady football players.

I would say no-no to any position that is clearly not bpa. reaching for need over an obviously superior talent, I'll use Levi Brown as a perfect example (just to show I can take a hit to my favorite player in last years draft class). how does it feel for Cardinal Fan to pass on Adrian (All-day) Peterson who possess the best combination of power, size, speed @ the RB position in years :cry2: to address a need (protecting Matt Leinarts blind side) using a top 5 pick on OT Levi Brown?

well I guess you do what we've done every year then and except the inevetable. Still say it's a reach to expect a third rounder to preform like a second or a first rounder. Unless Brown get hurts....they've banged their hole for four to seven years. How many RBs will they have an oporunity to draft in that time span ? How many oportunities to move up and go get the "franchise " back? The once every generation back. And just for the record, as good as all day was last year, he did miss time this season with an injury. So we start over....how many years will he go to make a complete sixteen game schedule? So far that number is zero.

And Arizona will have an orportunity to bang the running back with the first two picks this draft. To me they got their cake and coffee too. And they are pracitcing their craft in a target rich enviroment this year.

This is why i want us to go, in order

LT, CB, DE, LB,RB But take BPA

With a decent possibility of many of top CB talents being gone by the 18th pick, here's my order:

RB, CB, LT, FS, OLB, DE. But BPA at the same time.

Can't pass player, pick him up reguardless of need. We'll find something to do with him eventually.

No-no to QB, DL, WR or TE.

OT, CB, S should be the only 3 positions we should consider with our first pick. I didn't list RB because I have a feeling Gibbs will talk Kubiak out of taking a RB until day 2.

No to QB, punter, kicker, long snapper, FB, and TE.

I would be disappointed if we went with a WR.

I welcome a CB, FS, RB, or OL, or LB.

Sorry to bring up an old thread but I recalled this thread because of Trev Laws ......

Scouting Report: Trevor Laws
By John Morgan • 2008 NFL Draft
Posted on Tue Mar 25, 2008 at 05:19:30 PM EDT

You can find Notre Dame football here. I've spent most of the day watching condensed games. I skipped through Notre Dame's offense to save time. Line play is both fascinating and tedious. It requires a lot of patience and discipline, because where Laws is isn't always where the action is. Laws plays all over the line, so it's not always fun finding him in the split second before the play starts. Needless to say, many even most plays I had to watch a few times to see what really happened. If you're looking for just one game to watch, check out Notre Dame/Boston College. The Irish play more from a 4 down lineman package, and not so much from the a regular 3-4. I think Laws looks a lot more comfortable working as an interior, disruptive defensive tackle.

Skills are broken down from a ++ to --. ++ are complete skills, pro ready. -- are glaring weaknesses. The kind of faults that can fell an otherwise top talent.

++

Awareness: Laws is always aware of where the ball carrier is and how to work his blockers to get to him. Excellent timing on passes and kicks. Will turn tips into interceptions. Needs to refine his screen awareness.

Motor: Nonstop. Never quits on a play. Very dangerous on broken plays. Will appear out of nowhere.

Tackling: Sure tackler, but also dangerous. Wraps guys but also blows them up. Surrounded by a better line, will force fumbles.

Conditioning: Maintains high level of play into 4th quarter.

+

Ability To Shed Blockers: Good at riding his blocker to the ball carrier. Works well through garbage. Especially skilled at giving his blocker a big push and exploiting the space. Faced double and triple teams.

Burst: Good burst as a pass rusher. Gets off the line quickly and frequently wins at the point of attack.

Quickness: Quick enough to exploit the edge. Able to reach the ball carrier on backside pursuit. Shows the kind of burst that turns pressures into sacks.

Leverage: Gets under blockers, but can be pushed down.

Splitting Double Teams: Employs an effective swim and compact spin move. Much better at splitting rather than controlling double teams.

Versatility: Plays all over the line. Strong enough to play inside, quick enough to play outside.

Footwork: Good feet, good horizontal speed on stunts. Efficient lines to the ball carrier.

0

First Step: Deadly when it's there, but inconsistent. Occasionally downright slow off the snap. Laws worked all over the Irish line, assigned single gap penetration and two gap control. Could flourish in a single gap system.

-

Two Gap: Laws looked his worse when attempting to play a two gap 3-4. He wasn't a liability, but instead of exploding to the ball carrier, Laws was often washed out, driven back or knocked down.

--

n/a

Optimum Position: 3-tech, especially in a Tampa-2 or similar single-gap, disruptive system.

I'm not sold that the DL is a spot that is fixed to the point where it can be overlooked in the draft.

We need another DE opposite Mario, and we need a good run stuffing DT...still.
