Several picks in that mock don't make much sense at all:
1. Miami - Matt Ryan - not sure on this, the new staff may want to bring in their own QB and a QB is most worth the money, but they did just spend a 2nd round pick on John Beck last year and have an aging defense so it wouldn't surprise me to see them go with Chris Long or Glenn Dorsey, maybe even Jake Long.
2. St. Louis - Glenn Dorsey - Dorsey probably grades out higher than Chris Long so I can see it, but DE is probably a bigger need than DT. I won't complain too much about this pick though.
3. Atlanta - Darren McFadden - he would be difficult to pass up but with Warrick Dunn (even though he's getting old) and Jerious Norwood on the team it's far from their biggest weakness, and they have a lot of weaknesses to address.
5. Kansas City - Brian Brohm - not sure about this one either. I have very little confidence in Brodie Croyle being a long-term starter but their staff seems to think otherwise, and if Jake Long is available I don't see them passing him up. They should be well aware of how big of an impact having a great offensive line can have on your whole offense, and how bad your offense can be when 3 great linemen retire.
6. NY Jets - Jake Long - makes no sense. After taking DBrickashaw Ferguson at #4 two years ago it makes no sense to use the #6 pick and invest all that money into a career RT. Having bookend OTs is nice but there is no need to use two top-6 picks in that short of a time frame on OTs, and they definitely have other needs to address.
7. New England - Kenny Phillips - would be a sick tandem in their secondary with him and Meriweather at S, or they could move Meriweather to CB. However, I think they look elsewhere, they have a few other positions that are getting old, and they are definitely a candidate to trade down.
12. Denver - Ryan Clady - seems like a decent fit for the system but with all the defensive woes and their history of taking OLinemen late I just don't see this happening.
13. Carolina - Keith Rivers - no really their biggest need and they took Beason in the 1st last year. I'd be pretty surprised if Rivers gets past Denver.
15. Detroit - Derrick Harvey - he would be a good fit for a cover 2 but the Lions pass rush wasn't the problem on that defense.
17. Minnesota - DeSean Jackson - maybe, but they've acquired some pretty solid talent at WR with some high draft picks the last couple years so I don't really see them taking one in the 1st round, and they don't overly need help at returning kicks either, I think they look elsewhere.
18. Houston - Malcolm Kelly - as already mentioned, this sounds like a guy that looked at the roster and didn't recognize any other WRs so he went with it. WR is seriously the last position that we need to use a high draft pick on. With the players he has available, Dan Connor, any of the CBs, or Mendenhall, Felix Jones, or Jonathan Stewart would probably be the primary targets.
20 Tampa Bay - Aqib Talib - Talib is a great fit for a cover 2, but the Buccaneers had the best pass defense in the league, so I don't know why they'd draft a CB in the 1st. Many of the defensive players are getting old, but I don't know that this pick makes much sense.
22. Dallas - Mario Manningham - I don't think the Cowboys have "big problems in their receiving core". Glenn and Owens are getting old but Crayton is a solid young option. I guess I could see them take a WR in the 1st, but I think there are other, bigger concerns (contrary to a lot of mocks, I don't know that RB is a 1st round need either, Julius Jones may be on his way out but Barber can handle most of the load and they should be able to find a speed back in the mid rounds, although if they take a defensive player here and Felix Jones is available at #30 then I could see the temptation).
25. Seattle - Rashard Mendenhall - I've seen a lot of mocks that have the Seahawks taking a RB here, and I'm not sure I agree. Their running game has struggled and they could use another solid option to complement Shaun Alexander, but he's still the star of the team and I don't know how he'd react to them using a 1st round pick on a RB. I think their running woes are as much about the offensive line as anything. The line hasn't been horrible but it sure isn't the same without Hutchinson, plus Walter Jones is getting fairly old, so it wouldn't surprise me to see them address the OLine instead, and a FS like Reggie Smith wouldn't be bad for them either.
