Boone, Boone, Boone!

Was anyone as impressed with Ohio State's LT Alex Boone as was I? As a Ryan Clady fan (Boise State), I watched Boone for three quarters before bedtime (hey, I was sleepy ok?) Alex seemed to control his man and was often found way beyond the line of scrimmage on runs and seemed to be able to slide his feet well in past defense. His size of 6'7" 325lbs compares well with Clady 6'5" 320 and to Sam Baker 6'4" 310. Unfortunately, Clady and Boone are the only two left tackles I've watched.

I really was impessed with him and he really helped out on that 65 yard TD run of wells. He got to the next level and sealed of a LB, I was glad to see that b/c it shows he's got the ability to run and block which is critical in our offense.

Anybody know if he has declared? (i think he's a junior?) And/or what is the liklihood he would declare?

He's a guy i'm excited about and would def. give him consideration but not sure where he projects from late late 1st, 2nd round??

Boone is rated at#31 per best 50 per below link.

To my knowledge he has not declared but may after last night's game. He seemed to continue after his block even in the 3rd quarter.

I have been touting him on another board for a most of the season. He is still below Clady, but he has a higher upside.

He's a great run blocker. and if you're telling me you going to take him for rt...OK. I'd rather have Loadholt over there but OK.

He got beat by speed all night long. His feet are slow and he reaches with his waist instead of bending at the knees and kick sliding. He will get lit up in our division on the left side. It's just that simple.

Collins and Oher on the other hand...they can move thier feet. So can Clady but he'll be off the board with in ten picks. You can teach someone to run block. You can get them stronger in the upper body. You can't teach quickness.

Hmm good insight... Winston is staying on the Right side isn't he? Do you think Kubiak has played with the idea of trying him at LT during practice or in the offseason to see what options we have?

I think Erick is the most athletic lineman thay have. I think Kubiak wants four more just like him.

I thought Boone played a lot like Long but he looks bigger .

In our division you have to be quick enough for Freeney , strong enough for Spicer, and mean enough for KVB .

Winston should spend the offseason hanging from a (well, he'd probably crush the swingset) tree or something. :)

Not to argue but I did not see him get beat "all night long". I do not recall seeing him give up a sack in the 3 quarters I watched.

I've been saying this since after Winston's sophomore season at Miami, on this MB no less, that Winston would be a very good LT in the NFL. Short arms be damned, watch him play.

Me too. It's called leverge....go look it up. What you are posting it that Erick Winston is so super fast, he can make up the loss of leverge with shear speed.
I mean the guy is quick....but a mule is still a mule no matter what kinda saddle you put on him. I'm happy we have a highly athletic RT who can cover LG. That's his job.

You know the saying "games are won and lost in the trenches".

So

Apparently being a good linemen depends on your armlength.

So

By this logic games are won by having the players with the longest arms.

I wonder if Tmac is interested in blocking Schaubs blindside for us next year.

Also

If having short arms makes you a bad LT why doesnt it make you a bad RT?

Its true a mule is a mule. But a fast mule is a fast mule and a slow mule is a slow mule right?

Not all of them, but for an OLT it's prety imperative. Leverage. And it makes a big difference. I maynot be a very good speller....but I understand the game.
You don't put short arms out in space. And there is a reason for that. If your thorwing baskteball palyers into the arguement, here's a quarter go buy a clue.

OK, let me tell you what will happen when they stick him out there next season. What I know for a fact I'll never hear from you again unless I'm dead wrong.Which I'm not.

Here's how it will be. any RDE worth his salt will attck Ericks left shoulder. And when Erick opens his hips because his arm are not long enough to push the guy around the pocket....the RDE will counter with an inside move. And at that point the only two things Erick will be able to do about the inevitable is give up the sack or hold. And it will happen over and over and over again. Enjoy it sunshine.

If a hall of fame o-line coach says Winston is a RT then he's a RT. Don't you think if Winston could play LT they would have already put him there. Our o-line coach has been in the league for a long time. I trust his judgement alot more than the posters on this MB.

Pitts must have short arms cause he sure gets called for holding alot.

You cant tell me being a linemen depends on your arm length more than you size, strength, quickness, and technique. Saying you cant play LT if you have short arms is just silly. I think your the one that needs to get a clue.

Please explain to me how you know this for a fact.

2. You dont know Eric Winston.

Im not saying we should move him to LT. Im saying its stupid to say he cant play there because of short arms.

I'm saying that I'll leave it up to the coaches to make this decision. They have the resumes that you do not have. In fact most of them have been in the coaching profession longer than you have been alive.

I apologize I did not mean to personaly attack you. I just was pointing that we have a very experienced coaching staff. We are in very good hands with R.S. , Kubes & the gang. Have a great day.

I guess we can always leave things to the experienced coaches but then why have a message board? it is to exchange ideas and voice what we think. It's part of the fun of having a NFL team again! Of course my opinion is always the correct one and McNair has me on his speed dial. Just thought I'd throw that out.

Wanted to bump this thread as I've heard nothing on Alex Boone in quite some time. Anyone have any info? Did he declare? Is he absolutely too heavy to be our LT under Gibbs?

Boone never declared for the draft and is returning for his senior season at OSU.
