Will Demps Pro Bowl Alternate?

RagingBull

Hall of Shame
Wow. I am speechless about this. He has really brought it the past couple of games, but seriously, I am very surprised by this. Any thoughts?

Meh, i'd rather pay a little more for a sure thing than pay a little less for someone who may or may not pan out.

Usually we pay a little more for the latter and let go the former!!!

I would assume he'll need to have his elbow cut on to repair the reoccurring dislocations. I'd take a chance on him just to see what he could do 100% healthy.

I have to admit, I was surprised he was chosen to be an alternate. Maybe his special little website helped out in that regard.:)

All I know is that Will Demps came into the secondary and things changed right away. What makes it even crazier is that he did not start with Dunta in the line up - Dunta goes out against Oak and Demps comes in the following game against NO.

He in my opinion is a difference maker in the secondary because he brought an attitude/identity to the unit. I have never thought much of him as a player, but he has wowed me in his limited starts as a Texan.

I'm not really all that surprised. Our secondary just flat out changed once he came into the lineup. Mario is getting more sacks. 9 over 5 games! Why? Will Demps is a major reason why. It just shows how much of a force he is. He is a gamechanger with his hits and coverage skills.

I certainly hope we resign him.

Unfortunately, Im really afraid we'll lose the guy. The coaching staff never relaly talks him up. And for probwol money, he's going to look elsewhere

Radio guys had a good point. Demps has a reputation as a hard hitter and the guys who experienced first-hand remember it. Probably the reason Roy Williams got voted to multiple pro bowls despite his coverage skills.

I'm concerned about that, too. He may like his situation here, as well as all the fine Houston women, but this is likely to be his last big payday.

Sounds more like a thin year at FS cause it's not like he's started a lot BUT he's really made a huge impact on our secondary and I hope we do resign him.

I think he'll also keep in mind if he resigns he's assured a starting spot here. Can't say that for the rest of the league at this point.

geez, whatever mod deleted adams joke about sean taylor needs to get a sense of humour.. talk about harmless

A sense of humor and a sense of couth can be inclusive. In light of the recent situation, humor about the deceased should not be the route in my opinion.

I did not delete, but concur with the action.

And I concur with whoever deleted it as a regular board member myself. Let's leave the Taylor jokes alone for now. It's too early for them. The NFL is still grieving as indicated by the numbers on their helmets and his honorary pro bowl selection.

I did not see the joke so I am not sure if it crossed the line but some people deal with death by making light of it. Just a little food for thought.

Now back to football,

I am not sure how thin the safety position is, but I have heard a lot of analyst comment on there not being as many truly dominent Safeties in the league as in years past.

Loyalty is becoming rare but it's not completely dead. Beyond simple loyalty is the fact that someone like Demps (and Andre Davis and others) have found a home where they are wanted, where they fit in, where they are appreciated, and where they know their role and can continue to perform at a high level. All the front office needs to do is be fair.

Then there are the Jeff Poseys of the world who perhaps are aware that they overachieved for one season and might not be able to repeat their performance and will bite on the first big offer waved in front of them...

it was really a joke about taylors death or anything... just a clever reference to saftey play imo.. idk maybe im going to hell :)

Texans free safety = everyone identifies position as a hole and some wanted 1st pick to be a FS. Only one FS going in first round and he may drop. Some question Phillips being even a mid first selection. This hole does not looked to be filled in draft or free agency.

Enter Demps. Alternate pro bowler that probably will go to Hawaii. Texans free safety spot no longer a hole. Wow. This should get Smith a pat from McNair. This is the type of move that encourages me that this draft and FA will be a successful one. Injuries have really upset the cart but also have focused attention on these type players such as Andre Davis and Salaam. The later may not be the LT we want and none thought he could start the 16 games. Over all, he has looked pretty good for the $. I am just totally impressed with the Smith/Kubes combo.

Major kudos if we sign Demps long term.
