Ole Miss Texan

Hall of Fame
I leave it up to others to add to this list but i'll get it rolling. All we need to look at is how our players rank against their respective positions in the AFC:

DE-Mario Williams:
53 Tackles (37 solo, 16 assisted)...leads DE's in Sacks by 1.5 at 13 total. Has 2 forced fumbles, 1 fumble recovery, and 1 TD

Have to compare him to the other DE's in the AFC:
Jared Allen-Chiefs (58total 50solo 8assist 11.5 sacks, 2 forced fumbles)
Elvis Dumerville-Broncos (34total 31s 3a, 11.0 Sacks -- 5Pass deflections 1 Interception, 4 forced fumbles, 1 fumble recovery)
Jason Taylor-Dolphins (48total 41s 7a, 10.0 Sacks 5 PD 1 INT 1 Touchdown, 4 FF, 3 F.Recoveries)

DT Amobi Okoye:
30 Tackles 22 solo 8 assist 5.5 Sacks (2nd place, .5 behind AFC DT leader) 1 forced fumble

Compared to other DT's in the AFC:
Albert Haynsworth-Titans (36 total 31 solo 5 assist 6.0 sacks, 0 FF) *leads AFC DT's in sacks
NT Dewayne Robertson-Jets(48 t 32 s 16 a 4.0 Sacks)

MLB Demeco Ryans:
Tied for leage leader among M/I LB's with 121 Tackles, 95 Solo, 26 Assist, 2 Sacks, 7 PD, 1 Interception, 1 FF, 3 Fumble Recoveries, 1 TD)

Other Middle and Inside Linebackers in AFC:
DJ Williams- Broncos (121 T 90 S 26 A, 1 Sack, 6 PD, 1 INT, 2 FF, 2 FR)
Ray Lewis- Ravens- (120 T 82 S 38 A, 2 Sacks, 12 PD, 2 INT, 1 TD, 2 FF, 1 FR)

Gary Brackett- Colts (107 T 81s 26a, .5 sacks, 11 PD, 4 INT, 1 FF, 1 FR, 1TD)

I think the sad part is that Mario may miss out in the initial stages because of the antiquated voting system and the fact that many people have already voted...before this last game.

Sad, but I have to agree with HoustonFrog.
I'm pretty sure Mario will be left out...and players like Jason Seymour (Pats-fan favorite) and Jason Taylor will get in. It will be a travesty if that happens...but it is forseable.

One big thing Mario has going for him is that many of his main AFC competitors for sack-stats are 3-4 OLBs like Merriman with the Bolts who won't be competing with him at the DE position.
Mario has been a sensation, spectacular but only in the later half of this season (except he did have an excellent performance in the season opener),
so I dunno if this late burst is enought to get him in, I doubt it.
I'm very hopeful about DeMeco and he is clearly the more deserving IMO. He's had another good season, except for the last game or two because of injury.
Both DeMeco & Mario benefit by having fewer big names to go up agsinst this year, as some of the perennial ProBowlers are having off years.
I dunno how AO is in the conversation, even his rookie year is progressing well and his potential is impressive ?

Don't forget that the coaches and players count for 2/3 of the voting process. I'm not saying that he is a shoe in, but the last day for players and coaches to fill out their forms is today. I think he has a pretty good shot because of that.

But you also have to factor in some cronyism, with players and coaches voting for friends and former teammates and other going by name recognition. Mario is definitely deserving, I hope he makes it.

I know but that is the problem..they all still turned them in. Not saying that he won't get votes but the last game gave some that hadn't seen alot of him a chance to and it was too late. I see him making it as someone that fills in the roster spot only because of this. He deserves it though.

Probowl voting shouldn't start until the end of the season.....basically it should all take place during the month of the playoffs........I mean most of the voting is wrapped up with like 3 or 4 games to go, that is almost a 1/4 of the season.

I hope Mario makes it, but if he doesn't, fine. He still plays for us.

Mario's way too far back to get the fan vote, which is basically a beauty contest anyway. If he'd started this great run of form a few games earlier, then he'd have a better chance with the coaches and players' votes.

Would a winless Dolphin team really get Jason Taylor into the Pro Bowl? He has the name recognition, but hasn't won a single game yet, or at least not when the voting stopped.

Jason Taylor started the year off slow but has really played well. He's got 10 sacks, 4 forced fumbles, 3 fumble recoveries, an interception and 1 touchdown. He may be on a terrible team but he's still putting up very good numbers.

Why didnt you put Kris Brown in there?

My first sentence was that I'll leave it to other people to make their case for other players on our team. I just wanted to highlight the 3 that I thought had the best case to make it. Plus, there are other kickers in the AFC that would most likely make pro bowl ahead of Kris Brown. Bironas especially.

1. What time do we find out today?

2. I liked Ahman's quote on the radio w/r to the Pro Bowl "You get in one year later than you should, you stay one year longer than you should"

I have a hunch that a scenario is setting up that is gonna upset a lot of us here in Houston.
I think there's a real chance that Patrick Willis, who is having a very good rookie year at SF in the NFC conference and is an inside like DeMeco is,
may not only be named DROY but make the PB in his conference while DeMeco, who of course was DROY last year, will not be named to the PB in the AFC even though he's in his second year in the league.

But if a lot of people turned in there voting prior to Thursday game then Taylors last game would not have been included as well and he got 2 sacks 4 tackles and a safety and a pass defended, so those would not be included.

But Jason Taylor is a known entity and the Pro Bowl tends to be a place the fans vote for players on how they "perceive they are" not necessarily on actual stats.

Kris Brown is a much better kicker than Briones. Just because our TEXANS let him make us look like fools doesn't make him a pro-bowler. JMO!!

I don't see how Taylor would not be in. I'm pretty sure he's a lock, including fan favorite.

I am not overly surprised Mario didn't get in. It's like John McClain said, half these mental midgets with a vote, voted before the last couple of games. Now they look like idiots.

John McClain would know all about mental midgets.

So how does that work? If someone opts not to play or is injured?

I think if I remember correctly that's why VY went last year. He was like the 2nd alternate behind Tom Brady who decided he didn't want to play in it. And Phillip Rivers couldn't because of an injury.
