Are the Bucs Really a Better Team Than the Texans?

eriadoc

Texan-American
Well, you are as good as your record, so in that regard, yes. But if you go position by position, should they be any better than us? The injuries have certainly killed the Texans' chances of winning, but even when folks were healthy, they haven't performed up to par. Guys that this team depends on have turned the ball over at an alarming rate, and they've made boneheaded play after another.

For all the flashes that we see from Schaub, he's thrown 9 TDs in 12 games (11 games?). He's thrown as many picks, and fumbled as well. In addition, he's been nicked and dinged seemingly everytime he gets hit. I know guys can't control injuries, but why should Schaub get a pass on the injury front, when guys like DD were written off for being a poor player due to injury? It's still early in the Schaub era, so that book isn't being written yet, but it's not too early to start asking critical questions, IMO. The Bucs have Jeff Garcia, some of the time, and Luke McCown the rest. If you had asked me prior to the season who I'd take of the three, it would have been Schaub in a landslide. It still would be. But if you asked me which set of numbers I'd rather have, not the least of which is WINS, I'd have to choose Garcia (11 TDs, 3 INT, 2100+ yds).

As far as the rest of the offense goes, Ahman Green or Cadillac? Moot point, as neither have played for their teams. The Bucs definitely have a better backup, and this is a big reason why their team is doing well. AJ over Galloway, easily! Except, Galloway has 18.2 YPC, 6 TDs, and is coming up on 1000 yards. He will probably get it Sunday, in fact. AJ has been awesome, for about three games. OD is a great TE prospect .... that keeps fumbling the ball. I don't know much about Alex Smith.

On defense, they still have Ronde Barber and Derrick Brooks. That's a nice duo, to which they added Cato June. Is that better than our trio of Mario, Dunta, and Ryans? Should it be? Obviously defense is not played by three guys; I'm just thinking out loud in this thread.

I'ts disheartening to see teams like the Bucs do as well as they do with less than premium talent, while we can't seem to get going at all. There are a lot of teams that hover around mediocrity that I think our players should compare to, but then we fall well below mediocrity. This season in particular, I would tend to think of some of our players as good, but then they fumble, or throw a pick, and that has to factor into player evaluation at some point. The turnovers are killing us.

Anyway, I'm rambling, but I needed to talk football today :)

Garcia was looked at as the better QB before the season started but the Texans went for a long term fix rather than a stop-gap in Garcia. Garcia was coming off a great year last year and without doubt was viewed as a QB more ready to win in 2007 than Schaub was.

As for their defensive talent, I would take their secondary in a heartbeat...even when ours is healthy. We still have the worst safety talent in the NFL and its been that way since day one.

As for their running game, I would take theirs....captain obvious. The passing game is a draw because AJ>Joey and Garcia>Schaub.

As for their coaching, there isnt even a comparison. One of the best coaching staffs in the league reside in Tampa Bay while arguably the worst coaching staff in the league resides in our fair city, Houston. Our coaching staff is utterly inept and completely pathetic. Kubiak is ok as a coordinator but is just a horrible head coach. Horrible. A flatlining yes man who has surrounded himself by a bunch of horrible coaches who all came on the cheap....just like McNair likes it.

It's disheartening to see teams like the Bucs do as well as they do with less than premium talent.

Less than premium talent? Are you kidding me? Obviously you don't know that the Bucs roster boasts something like 20 former first round picks. They have the most former first round picks on one team in the NFL. You also obviously don't know that some of our great players like Ronde Barber, Jeff Garcia and Earnest Graham aren't even among these players who were formerly selected in the first round.

On to our defense, NFL teams that copy us (all 25+ of them) are again watching film of our defense to teach their own players how to play the Tampa 2 scheme correctly.

The Bucs D is back. Watchout NFL.

Ok, the problem with this thread is that all you did was mention the big named players on our roster. The reason for the Bucs' success this season is because they went with a youth movement, but kept or added a veteran leader on each level of the team. They also made changes on the coaching staff. So do some research or ask a Bucs fan a little something about the team before you break down the roster.

From top to bottom, I'd take our talent over yours because ours know how to win. There may be a few more physically gifted players on your roster, but that doesn't mean anything when u end a game with a "L".

The Bucs have Jeff Garcia, some of the time, and Luke McCown the rest.

What the F are you talking about? Jeff Garcia has played in every game but one, last week against the Saints....and also, Luke McCown didn't see a snap all season long until last week.

Go watch some tape or look at thier season stats dude. Cuz you are WAY off base.

Spot...you beat me by a few seconds.

I don't know wtf he was talking about Crunk...lol.

If we wanted to we can go through each roster 1-53, I'm pretty sure the balance is going to heavily favor TB. So much so that the scale would look like this...

Lets not just throw out some really objective things. You like the Bucs we get that but to say the owner is better or the stadium is better when you most likely have never been to Reliant. It is one of the Premiur stadiums in the league. It is not not me saying that, it has gotten so many rave reviews it is not even funny.

I wanted to come down hard on you, but truthfully your list sadly looks fairly accurate. I wouldn't give the definite edge to Ruud for MLB- I'd give Meco and Ruud a push....

Honestly most of the list is right. the only position that I think the Texans are better at is WR.

I'm not touching the Stadium or City/Area with a 10ft pole.

Yea sorry, I was being a smartass when I wrote those.

Reliant as well as Ray Jay are both premium NFL stadiums and both will hold a number of Super Bowls in thier time.

Btw, we have next year's SB and I believe Reliant does in '11, sadly after Miami somehow get's another two.

I don't know...Ruud has to get the edge only because the MLB is the QB of the Cover 2 defense. We know whose defense is ranked higher so that gives him a minor edge. If we switched them out, I'd give Ryans the edge for the same reason.

Heres my take
QB - Bucs
RB - Bucs
FB - Push (Leach brings power)
WR - Texans
TE - Push (Daniels is good when the QB doesn't lead him into 3-way collisions)
OT - Bucs
OG - Bucs
C - Bucs (Your Center can't be worse then Flanagan)

DE - Bucs (Only because Mario can't play both positions)
DT - Bucs (Travis Johnson is coming into his own, but Okoye looks tired.)
OLB - Bucs
MLB - Push (Have you ever heard of Demeco Ryans?)
CB - Bucs
FS - Bucs x2
SS - Bucs x2

K - Texans (Kris Brown has leg)
P - Bucs (I don't know your punter)

Head Coach - Bucs
Offensive Assistants - Bucs
Defensive Coordinator - Bucs x50
Defensive Assistants - Bucs

You've already said you have had a good scheme and good young players around Ruud, Demeco has had to carry our entire defense with the weak scheme we run here. The only people to help him out from time to time on our defense are Mario, Travis Johnson, Fred Bennett, and Will Demps. Dunta Robinson is injured, and Danny Clark helps against the run but is slow.

Basically Demeco has had to do more with less.

I agree, but it's like with the MVP award..you give it to the QB with the better record. Ruud is our QB on defense.

I'd give the push to the TE, and I'd take our MLB over Rudd. I think both Demeco and Rudd are great players, but Rudd has had veteran leadership (Brooks, Barber, and the Great Kiffin) to help him understand the scheme, whereas Demeco has been left alone. Oddly as it is, I would give the edge to our kicker this year. He has been great this year (I bet I jinxed him for Sunday.)

Crunk, you know your not going to win this one bud. They only have a few things to be proud of and Ryans is the biggest.

HOWEVER, Barret Ruud in a Cover 2 scheme is only 15 tackles behind Ryans who has to freelance to cover every hole on the field.

edge - Ruud.

You left out:
Solo Tackles: Ryans 89 - Ruud 67
Sacks: Ryans 2 - Ruud 0
Passes defended: Ryans 5 - Ruud 2

Although, I will admit Ruud leads in INT's 2-1

There is no doubt that position by position the bucs would seem to have an advantage. The have had an uncanny ability to play poorly in some games on the road.. They statistically beat the crap out of detroit and managed to lose. I look for a close game.

It's Florida... It's a sin not to have a superbowl in any other state. ;)

Sooner or later I'll visit ya'lls stadium and have a looksee.

Coaching = Bucs
Defense = Bucs
Offense = Draw
Owner = Bucs (the dude owns ManU which is sick and brought Lombardi to Tampa)
Stadium = Draw (the pirate ship is an NFL icon but Reliant is beautiful and tasteful)
Fans = Texans, as if there was any doubt....

both teams are building through the draft and looking to better times in the future...bucs could make noise this year.

i am no cowboys hater, actually grew up loving Cowboys and Oilers but I think any team that gets to play Divisional Playoff game in Dallas has a good chance to upset the Cowboys. especially a team like the Bucs. Romo is going to choke. No doubt. I think the team who plays in Dallas in the Divisional week has a good shot at getting it done. That thing in Dallas is a powderkeg just ready to explode. Everything is all peach now but that could change in a hurry.

GOOD luck Buc fans, on any other Sunday!!:) You do have the cutest coach in the NFL, that's for sure!!

Yes, we do..:) You guys have some cuties! on the Texans... we have Barrett Ruud and a few others..

But I'm with you, we do have the hottest coach...:toast2:

Gruden is way more cuter than Kubiak,

Ok...how did we go from comparing who has the better roster to who has the cutest coach??? :pirate:

Hmmmm...

I guess it depends on your taste. It will be an interesting coaching matchup because they know each other so well from the Denver-Oakland days.

If games were played on paper, position by position, known players versus known players, the Texans would win zero games.

If you look to common recent opponents, despite putting up a ton of yards, the Bucs required the Saints to pull a Reggie to win their game against them.

The Texans beat the Saints by 13. Even after turning the ball over twice. The first game that Andre Johnson was back.

Generally speaking the Texans are a much better team at home than on the road, which is common for young, inexperienced teams. It can get really really loud in Reliant, because the stadium is so vertical and all the seats are fairly close to the field.

The Texans have had their problems, but if they can reduce the gift turnovers, they can move the ball.

Just saying. :texflag:

Playing in the NFC, especially in this years NFC South makes this record pretty easy to achieve.

Play the Panthers, Saints and Falcons six times a years and you have at least 5 wins right there.

How many wins would you have playing the likes of the Colts, Jags and Titans twice a year.

Admittedly you don't pick your division, but some are FAR easier than others.

The Bucs are super overrated if you judge based on the win/loss record. The only reason yall won last Sunday is because the Saints gift wrapped it for ya. Tampa Bay is no better than Houston. Id say this game is a toss up. Galloway will probably burn us at least once, if Garcia is healthy he will be a concern also. The rookie runningback looked pretty good last week, but then again it was against the Saints run defense.

ps Gruden is a bad coach. Most unfortunate for you guys that your record probably saved his job.

Mr PC, there is no way our defensive front seven is better than the Buc's.

I was probably exaggerating when I said OLB was a push. Even though he is aging and lost a step D. Brooks is still a great player. Other than that I think our front 7 is definitely comparable to Tampa Bay in terms of personel. Mario, Johnson, Amobi, Meco, Clark are nasty. The defensive coordinator and lack of safety support hurts the production of the front 7 for the Texans, but they are beastly.
