Well, you are as good as your record, so in that regard, yes. But if you go position by position, should they be any better than us? The injuries have certainly killed the Texans' chances of winning, but even when folks were healthy, they haven't performed up to par. Guys that this team depends on have turned the ball over at an alarming rate, and they've made boneheaded play after another.
For all the flashes that we see from Schaub, he's thrown 9 TDs in 12 games (11 games?). He's thrown as many picks, and fumbled as well. In addition, he's been nicked and dinged seemingly everytime he gets hit. I know guys can't control injuries, but why should Schaub get a pass on the injury front, when guys like DD were written off for being a poor player due to injury? It's still early in the Schaub era, so that book isn't being written yet, but it's not too early to start asking critical questions, IMO. The Bucs have Jeff Garcia, some of the time, and Luke McCown the rest. If you had asked me prior to the season who I'd take of the three, it would have been Schaub in a landslide. It still would be. But if you asked me which set of numbers I'd rather have, not the least of which is WINS, I'd have to choose Garcia (11 TDs, 3 INT, 2100+ yds).
As far as the rest of the offense goes, Ahman Green or Cadillac? Moot point, as neither have played for their teams. The Bucs definitely have a better backup, and this is a big reason why their team is doing well. AJ over Galloway, easily! Except, Galloway has 18.2 YPC, 6 TDs, and is coming up on 1000 yards. He will probably get it Sunday, in fact. AJ has been awesome, for about three games. OD is a great TE prospect .... that keeps fumbling the ball. I don't know much about Alex Smith.
On defense, they still have Ronde Barber and Derrick Brooks. That's a nice duo, to which they added Cato June. Is that better than our trio of Mario, Dunta, and Ryans? Should it be? Obviously defense is not played by three guys; I'm just thinking out loud in this thread.
I'ts disheartening to see teams like the Bucs do as well as they do with less than premium talent, while we can't seem to get going at all. There are a lot of teams that hover around mediocrity that I think our players should compare to, but then we fall well below mediocrity. This season in particular, I would tend to think of some of our players as good, but then they fumble, or throw a pick, and that has to factor into player evaluation at some point. The turnovers are killing us.
Anyway, I'm rambling, but I needed to talk football today
