Megan Manfull, of the Houston Chronicle, reports Houston Texans head coach Gary Kubiak said Monday, Nov. 19, that it is a possibility RB Ahman Green (knee) could go Injured Reserve.

If that's the quote from the presser yesterday, Kubiak made it sound like they would wait a week or two and see how Green's knee is doing.

on the team’s running back situation) “Well, first off I’ll start with Ahman (Green). He’s better today. Of course not playing this weekend, the rest, he gets better. Is he ready to all of a sudden go back and play this week, I don’t think I can sit here and say that. It’s going to be a day-to-day thing and it’s something that we’ve got to take a hard, hard look at here over the course of this next week and probably, probably about one more week and see if he’s going to be able to step up and help us again. It’s really all dependent on him and how he feels and how much he can work through, and we’re trying to be as patient as we can and give him opportunity to do that and we’ll just kind of see what happens day to day.

“We know Ronnie (Dayne)’s going to be there, he’s going to be there week in and week out for us. He’s always done that. Joe (Adimchinobi Echemandu), of course he has one carry yesterday and put the ball on the ground. We can’t do that. He’s got to protect the football. But it is time to give the other kid (Darius Walker) a chance. Now how far we go with that – is he active this week – how far we progress with Darius, I can’t really say right now. But we are definitely going to get him involved. He’ll be working with the offense this week and then we’ll make a decision as far as activating him, but I think Ronnie’s the constant and from there we’ve just got to give those other kids a chance.”

(on the decision involving RB Darius Walker) “I think Darius, I’ve already seen him practice and I think he deserves an opportunity to help the team. He’s practiced really, really well. We give out a scout team player of the week award; he’s won it a couple times. He’s practicing well. He’s growing up. He’s doing better. So he deserves a chance from that standpoint, and how much a chance he gets probably has a lot to do with Ahman (Green) and what happens here over the course of the next week or two, so we’ll see.”

(on if RB Ahman Green could possibly be placed on injured reserve) “That’s the only possibility in this league if you’ve got a guy who can’t play and can’t get well, but with him right now, I don’t see that right now as I talk to you today. We’re sure hoping that he can help this football team. Unfortunately, it’s hard to have patience when you’ve got problems in other areas, because you’re taking a roster spot. We’ve got issues in the secondary and of course issues at running back, but we’re trying to be as patient as we can and make sure that we give him every opportunity to feel like he can fight through this and help us before we would make a decision of that nature. So we’re going to continue to try to have as much patience as we can, and hopefully he makes progress.”

Kubiak said it was a possibility, but didn't see it happening at this time. I think Megan's trying to stir the pot a bit.

edit: Sorry, Hoth-Boy beat me to it.

I think ol Kubes is just trying to make our IR list even longer so that no one can surpass us in the "who has more players on IR" contest. :splits:

Why not? It's not like he plays anyways. We could use the spot on the roster for a better cause.

I'd put him on IR. From what I understand his "knee bruise thingy" is something that isn't going to go away without extended rest. If that's the case then let him rest. In my eyes the move hasn't worked out. I'm not blaming ANYBODY, just pointing out that he got hurt and so we spent 8 million dollars and didn't get a damned thing except elevated expectations (that were dashed) in return. Park his butt on IR and tell him to start getting ready for 2008. That's really our only chance to see anything out of the Ahman Green signing anyway.

For this year give it to Dayne, Walker, and Itchy and go with it.

Found this scouring the news wire:

Source

HOUSTON at CLEVELAND — Texans: OUT: RB Ahman Green (knee). Browns: OUT: DT Ethan Kelley (knee), T Kevin Shaffer (knee), DE Shaun Smith (knee), CB Eric Wright (knee).

This is from a KC paper, but I'd believe them before Megan Manful.

It's the Battle of the knees!

I don't think he'll be with the Texans next season. One year just like Eric Moulds.

If that story is accurate and the Browns DC on their website is current, that's
4 starters out for the Browns including 2/3 of their DLine.
As far as Green goes, the guy is a quasi-conman as far as I'm concerned.
He gets PR for kicking in something like 20 or 40K for the DP for a single-mother's house (to get his #30 jersey from Simmons) and thereby looks like a good-guy while stiffing big Bobby for 6 or 8 mill, whatever. Pretty dang slick.
So with Green out, do they suit 2 or 3 backs and is Walker the top backup
in Cleveland for Dayne ?

Possibly that is true. I was under the impression that Eric Moulds asked to be let go prior to the QB moves because he didn't want to be here and particularly didn't want to do another season of David Carr not throwing him the ball.

With the moves we made at WR and the depth we had it's debatable whether or not Moulds would have even made this team had he stayed.

With Green I don't get the impression that he's unhappy here (apart from being unhappy about being hurt) or that the Texans are unhappy with him about being hurt. I also get the feeling that we've mostly taken the hit to the salary cap with Green and that bringing him back to try and make the team next year wouldn't be much worse than the cap hit to let him go. A salary cap guru would know the answer to that but if I remember correctly we signed him for two years at 8 million dollars. I think the damage (what little there is) is done and if it looks like this is something he can overcome in the offseason and we can at least get one somewhat productive year out of him then where's the harm in letting him come back to compete.

Of course if Darius Walker blows up out of nowhere and hits Cleveland for 165 yards and a pair of TD's (I know, not gonna happen) then all bets are off.

I'm not against bringing Green back. I just wouldn't depend on a back that old. ANY back that old. It's just a bad plan. I guess it's worth noting that it wasn't the Texans plan either. They expected to have Chris Taylor waiting in the wings this year. It just didn't work out that way.

So now you are questioning the guys character and acting like he came here with the intent to rip off the Texans?

Pathetic.

I agree. Nobody close to the Texans has even hinted that they do not believe that Green is really hurting. Poor form nunu.

What? Dunno where you get the angle of him stiffing Bob, curious on your opinion of Joppru's time on the Texans' payroll and keeping the bench warm. Didn't take you for a Green hater...

Yeah, me thinks the same thing.

You forgot to mention he kicks puppies, drowns kittens, and steals candy from babies.

His injury was intentional, just so he could collect a paycheck, I can tell this by how he keeps trying to sti out of games after he is forced to play the first quarter in them.

I think he's retired at year's end.

Pathetic.
For Chrissakes, take a break already !
Of course I don't think Green is guilty of criminal fraud !
But I'm making a very exaggerated, sarcastic remark about him because he's
got about as much heart as Jerome Mathis, but costing the ownership a lot more in cap & cash.
And really, you shouldn't take all of these posts so literally.

I was vague. I meant just like Moulds in that he gets a pretty good bonus for one year's work. I think Moulds contributed more but wanted out as you said. I don't think Green will have the choice.
