Extra incentive for JJ

"My shoulder definitely feels a lot better now. I was real close last week on the punt returns. I’m starting to get my rhythm back, too, so I should be good the next game. I’m not worried about the bye week throwing me out of rhythm, though, because I’m going to be working out.

And we’re playing my hometown team when we get back. That’s a rivalry game for me, baby. Just like how our team feels against the Dallas Cowboys, that’s how I feel against the Saints. Hopefully I get a game like that like I had against Dallas. For now, I’m just going to enjoy these days off."

he is hesitating and not running with the reckless abandon that he did in preseason since the injury. he has to get that mentality back. i do love the edge and moxie though. he looks like Deion when he gets the ball but he just isn't as fast.....but who is?

as for our WR corps, i feel 100% better about it than I did preseason. We should find a way to lock up Dre Davis before he enters the FA pool. I am really looking forward to him and AJ working together on opposite sides of the field. AD has made some mistakes but he is a playmaker and we need to stop letting guys like him go. His situation reminds me of the only decent FS the Texans have ever had, Marlon Mcree. They gave him a shot, he did pretty well, and didn't lock him up and lost him in the offseason because Casserley thought he could get one on the cheap. Don't let this happen with Dre. a WR corps of AJ, Walter, Davis, and JJ is as solid 1-4 as any team in the league.

Andre Davis is a back up. Period. By locking up you mean give him a reward (signing bonus) for coming thourgh for the team this season and paying him the vet minimum, I'm with you. Anything more than that is cap space fodder. He is a rotation guy, not a starter. He is the number four WR, and will never be anything more than that.

Andre Davis has had more catches on highlight reels than any Texan in recent memory. Period, or whatever.

Yea, I don't understand how you could say he is a #4 WR and never will be anything more. The guy is playing well enough to be our #2 even with AJ.

And you are the same guys who asured me that J.J. would have the #2 locked up by mid season. Right ? I got it. One of us doesn't know what he's talking about.

The guy is a walking red cross. He has always been a walking red cross. and will ever be a walking red cross. Waist the cap money if you wanna. Let me get it in now, save the band wideth ...I told you So.

And that would be you at this point. JJ got hurt and when he came back the injury effected him, you can not anticipate an injury so your little attitude about JJ not having #2 locked up is pretty pathetic.

As far as Andre Davis being a #4 WR, I can name 29 teams besides the Texans who would take him in a heart beat. Yes I know how many teams are in the league, I just did not count the Colts and the Patriots. they seem to be pretty set at WR.

OK Andre Johnson is ahead of him, but I am curious as to whom you would put ahead of Davis? It is not walter, he is a possesion guy. JJ I just discussed him so he has yet to step up. Anderson? No he is more like a 4th or 5th WR. Mathis? Oh wait he is on IR.

Did you miss some games or something and missed how davis has been playing?

A bit dismissive and presumptive. Dude is on pace for just under 1000 yds, has shown he can get open 40+ yds down field and that he is a gamer--solely responsible for one of the comeback TD drives against TN. Folks looking for him to be demoted past #2 are in for disappointment. He is a very well rounded WR and I doubt he has done anything this year to make Kubiak think he was wrong in believing Walter is a #2.

WR is one of the surprise positions on this team that actually reveals some depth. How anyone can take away from what Davis and Walter has done this season is beyond me.

Somebody needs to separate skills from injuries. Even the best players can get hurt. See A. Johnson and M. Harrison for examples.

He got tomahawk chopped and it seperated his shoulder. How is that a walking red cross?

Exactly. We have one exciting WR corp now. ADavis isn't going anywhere. Unless of course in a trade for a FS or CB to a team with mad depth at one or the other!!

He and Davis will probablyplay #2/#3 about equal reps while AJ is in the game. They both provide different type of threats and should both be utlized. That's probably what Kubiak will do.

Our WRs really have done a good job of making up for the loss of AJ for half the year.

I think when you see 2 WR's on the field #2 will be Walter more like 80% of the time, but I agree Kubiak likes to play with different combos.

Not trying to be dismissive or presumptive at all. Did not realize how many yards he was on pace for, I just think Davis and Jones and Johnson are all faster than he is. At least that is how I see it. More like a Brandon Stokley type of receiver.

Why should there be a problem here?

We have good WRs, and as a unit, when they are all healthy, we can be among the best 5 in the leagues, with potential to move up since they are quite young.

When we activate only 4, and these guys are available, all of them will be there.
As Infantrycak said, we will employ them all.
There's no need for distinction.
But yes, A.D. had the stigma of being injured the most.

McCree was let go because Vic Fangio would not play young players, and he seemed to be unimpressed by McCree. I point to McCree's starting every where he has gone since leaving us as the evidence that coaching staff had no clue, and Casserly was no better.

He is # 3 minimum when Aj gets back. JJ is the future, but why rush it when its looking alright. Let JJ return punts and do spot duty at WR. Give him a decent cap friendly extension for next year and see what happends. Not Gary Walker money... But decent. Hes done nothing but earn it.

He's Corey Bradford, but with HANDS.

I support the #4 WR theory for Bradford/Gaffney.

But Davis has shown that he has skills.

AJ-JJ-AD-Walter-Owens...not too bad.

It really isn't. With proper time for Schaub to throw, these guys could get some serious yards.

Here's what I predicted for the Saints game back in pre-season:

W SAINTS A runback for a touchdown swings it our way.

Hopefully it comes true for JJ.
