LOL...No wonder we're getting hammered each week

Go Texans!
From yahoo.com's fantasy football page:

Oct 17--Megan Manfull, of the Houston Chronicle, reports Houston Texans RB Ron Dayne was inactive for Week 6 because he did not fit the scheme the team wanted to use against the Jacksonville Jaguars well. The team wanted to run to the outside, which is not Dayne's strength. He may be active for Week 7, depending on the scheme

Dayne inactive due to scheme

So if Dayne is active, NFL defenses, then it means we're running it right up the gut. Got it?

And if he's not active, then be prepared for us to try and run on the edges more than usual.

1. Does she reallllllllly know that this is the reason he was inactive?

2. If so, who on our team is releasing this information (Francione's cousin?)

3. If someone IS releasing this information, it's not so much that it might give a helping hand to defense's as they build a strategy for us during the week (because everyone already knows Dayne is a guy who runs into the pile in front of him), but it's more of just a thing of looking like a goober for even giving out this sort of information in the NFL.

If it wasn't so painfully dumb for The Chronicle to report this, it would be funny to me.

you really think that NFL teams across the league are reading this and popping their foreheads with the palm of their hands and thanking Megan Manfull for letting them know Dayne is a sloth and isn't good on the edge?

Yeah, I had added that to my thread before I saw your post.

THAT'S the funniest part of the whole thing.

"This just in: David Carr benched because Panthers find out that their opponent next Sunday is planning on putting a defense onto the field..."

"Breaking news: Ricky Williams might not be back in the NFL due to football fields growing regular grass and not the "good stuff" that he's accustomed to."

Dayne is so horrible the whole opposing defense can drop back in zone(including the dline) and he'd get 3 yards.

What a fickle group. And mean-spirited to.
The Great Dayne led us to one of our greatest wins ever against the Colts in Reliant last year, and now you rush to bash him. That's gratitude.
Even 250 lb graders can't run thru 300 lb Dlineman without some help from the guys supposed to be blocking up front.

Oh please. Like anyone wants to run up the middle against Mike Peterson, Marcus Stroud and John Henderson. It's pretty obvious that we weren't going to have too many runs up the middle.

I don't understand some of the thinking here. Everyone knows Green is the only decent back we have, and there's no telling how long he'll stay healthy enough to continue playing decent. The other two are less than adequate.

Nobody is ready to give up the season, but if Green goes down again you might as well give it up. If the line starts making a few holes, who is going to hit those holes if it isn't Green?

Nobody here acted like they wanted to make a trade. Yeah, I know there wasn't much to be had, but the right $$$ will get you a decent back. There was a deal to be made somewhere, but we didn't make it.

So what I hear is our season riding on Green staying healthy. It is what it is and that's all there is.

We need an honest front office as to our injuries before we can rely on anyone from here even getting it half right

Consider our usually, gradual info. about injuries, my guess is Dayne has a carreer ending one and will be on IR by week 8.

Twas a miracle that Dayne did what he did vs. Indy...well, the fact that Indy had perhaps the worst run defense in the entire league last year certainly helped a little.

It would be "mean spirited" if the guy did well on a consistent basis and then we rag on him for a sub-par game or two.

I'm sorry but, I've read many of thoughtful post, on this board and this just has me confused?

Why would the Texans give blogger's, poster's, wannabe GM, or anyone else, an insight into game plan? Don't you think they'd keep some info. close to their vest?

So the guy has about two good games all year...eh so what, he can't run outside he's to slow, he can't run up the middle he's too slow, he can't run pitch plays he's too slow. Plus he always does that fall forward for a yard the second someone touches him. I'm not even sure he's a good 2nd string back any more. Maybe 3rd but if Green was out for the year than our running game is gone for the year.

Another spin would be that if utilized correctly, according to his strengths, he can win games.

Also, it was no miracle against the Colts, no devine intervention, that was Dayne grinding away. Pure and simple.

I believe that losing Mckinney for the season hurts us more than Andre being off the field right now. Problem is, there's no easy fix right now, and the only thing to do is to ride out the season with what we have, and then make sure that this problem is dealt with in the off-season.

What really amazes me though, is that our offense keeps producing yards in every game despite our ...uhm... weak running game. That success is, in my honest opinion, all on Schaub.

ps: I wanted to blame play-calling too, but i'm hungry and need food, so instead of writing more, I decided to 'ps' it.

David Carr and Corey Bradford led us to our very first and arguably most important win. They rightfully get bashed for being horrible.

Nobody ever claimed Dayne was any kind of perimeter threat, but last year he was reasonable effective running inside the tackles. Check out his stats, he actually averaged over 4 yards a carry. Sounds pretty dang impressive to me.
The problems with our rushing game stems more from the Oline, in particular
McKinneys absense do to injury it would seem, not any of our backs.
And its hardly like we expended a first-day draft pick for Dayne or something. He's just a well-traveled, well-worn FA pickup who has more than delivered for what was probably a relatively modest monetary investment, though honestley I don't remember or have the details ?

One needs to subscribe to a certain newsletter.

*Side note to TexanBill: Sorry, I couldn't resist! :devilpig:

Sure, but that after years of service. Dayne hasn't been here that long, and he has shown his flashes. He is what he is, but he's still better than some of the other options.

And as far as scheming towards the guy, who cares? There are many areas on the Texans that are pretty obvious holes with many ways to gameplan against them. Dayne isn't the only one.

Could not stop Dayne from running over Spencer. I just had to say that.

Hmmm this is a painfully horrible article, I wonder what the editor said when he(she) read it. "FRONT PAGE!!!"

Speaking of Chronicle reporters, I worked with one last Friday. Don't remember his name, though. I'm convinced I could start writing for the Chronicle right out of high school.

This board (with all the smileys) was originally the board from the Texans main page. But then they migrated to different board software, ditched all our history and our smilies and there was a huge revolt. They kindly allowed Texans Talk to have the old backups and voila! We had our smilies back.

These smilies are very important to us. :bat:

Heh... Manfull...

Somewhere a very dim light bulb went off in the head of an aspiring porn actress looking for a name.
