[Rumor] Bad news for Texans Mathis

texanskan

Waterboy
I posted this on clutchfans but I know many of ya'll don't go there.

Anyway, a friend of mine who runs a store near Texas City just called me about an hour ago saying Mathis and another man (Randy Hines) came into his store and Mathis had a boot on.

He asked Mathis what was wrong and he just said it was a "reacuring injury" and that he looked "down and out" and was limping around.

Randy Hines played QB at Grambling and was last in the NFL with the Ravens as a WR, he will be working out for the Texans today.

Not sure if Mathis will be out for the year but he is sure to be out for a while.

Hopefully it's a fashion statement and a lost bet.

Just like Bennie J. this guy can't catch a break. Unlike Benny, this guy has done something for our team.

This guy is like your favorite sports car. Flies when driven...but a little nick and the whole vehicle is out of commission.

Texans May Place Mathis on Injured Reserved

"It's in the early stages of forming into a stress fracture," Mathis said after practice Friday. "The bone hasn't broken at all, just a little bit of fluid in there."

Mathis says he doesn't experience any pain in every day life. That is not the case on the football field.

"Oh yea it's very painful," Mathis said. "I have a hard time stopping, just pushing off and after that I have a hard time walking around for a couple of hours."

"Most people look at it, they question my toughness or my ability to stay out on the field healthy," Mathis said. "That's not a question. None of that's a factor. I want to be out there more than anything."

Texans officials will only say that injured reserve is an option for Mathis and that a decision will be announced before Sunday's game.

Mathis will be replaced on the roster this weekend by receiver Harry Williams, who is being signed off of the practice squad.

Who?

Analysis: Positives...Very effective vertical receiver with the speed to consistently get deep...Has good quickness off the line of scrimmage and is a long strider with the acceleration to gain on the cornerbacks...Has shown improvement in extending his hands to catch outside the body's frame...Gives good effort as a position blocker...On kickoff returns, he is adequate when hitting the seams, showing the vision and instincts to elude...Has the body control and flexibility to adjust to the ball in flight.

So do you think this Williams fellow will get any returns? From what I have seen, it looks to be Wynn and maybe even Davis on the KR.

I remember them being pretty high on this guy in training camp but we just had so many good receivers: AJ, KW, JJ, AD, Keenan, Bethel, Jerome, Anderson, and this guy.

So... now we've got KW, AD, Anderson, and this guy.

This is just getting ridiculous.
Yeah, you're gonna be like a preseason game with all those unfamiliar names out there. Maybe this kid and AD can cause a ruckus....stranger things have happened.

Hell who knows with Colston tearing up the league last year. I think Schaub is a QB that makes the WRs better though, its just that our running game sucks right now.

its just that our running game sucks right now.

And that is the KEY point right now. The QB and the WRs are good enough to get the job done not world class, but good enough, but only if we generate some sort of ground game. Doesn't have to be a 250 yard devastating type of thing, just reasonably consistant to keep the defense honest and take time off the clock while resting the defense. The other key is turn overs...can't have them. We don't have the firepower available right now to be able to overcome that sort of thing.

Look for JacobyJones to get the KO and Punt return duties when JJ comes back healthy.

Jacoby Jones is less likely to be on the field. When he does return, Kubiak said he will return kicks and punts. Dexter Wynn will continue to handle those duties until Jones returns.

From the Chronicle

Williams looked good to me in preseason action but got cut due to the numbers game at WR. I particularly remember the playaction td pass he caught from Sage in I think it was the Cardinals game.

Glass half full, the injuries will expose every one to targets. We should slay the #4-6 WR back ups once and for all. I have no probelm running the passing offense to the futrue HOFer canidate. Just think if we're going to grow up they've got to make the bench guys more oportunities. Believe it or not, other guys besides A.J. have been running free in alot of patterns. The crutch is gone now and MS must grow up if they wanna play off run this year. Spread the ball and the play selection around. Give them a chance to suceed.
