Our Run Defense

I was watching NFL Live yesterday and I believe I heard Mark Schlereth say that we did not give up a rushing first down. If this is true, then that is quite an achievement. How often have you heard of that? I know that the Panthers were playing a lot of catch up, but still, no rushing first downs? Did I hear correctly???

They had a rushing first down on a Delhomme scramble, iirc.

But no first downs on a designed run play.

That is pretty impressive.

Ryans and Williams are both very good run defenders, and that is starting to pay off for us.

This is important for us vs. the Colts because they do like to run.

Man... if we go back and look at our stats from last year(minus the Vince Young yards) we've been pretty impressive against the run for some time.

We have always been a pretty physical team. Defenders would much rather play the run than the pass. That's just the way we roll!

Of course, we ain't too shabby in the pass game either. About 100 of the yards we have given up through the air were during "garbage time". Hehe.

The season is only 2 weeks old but it is a nice start by your defense, Addai is sure to test that run defense !!

Definitely. Addai is a good kid and he's going to be a great running back for you guys for a long time.

Sorry we're going to have to shut him down this week but it's for his own good. Really.

Don't know about the D rank but ESPN has us ranked at #11 overall this week, up from #25. The Titans drop to #15 from #14.

Most of all, i love the way we are hitting. Even when we make mistakes, its always a freakin hit. When you fly around and lay your body on the line, good things happen.

This was in another thread. We gave up (i believe) 5 rushing 1st downs to KC and 1 to Carolina (Delhomme scramble).

That is very, very impressive and I love how physical our defense is

I wouldn't be suprised if those 5 to KC were in those two opening drives they had.

joseph addai will not run for 50 yards this game. count how many times the line stops him at the line. i'll bet it's more times than he gets past...

Addai will gain 75 yards at least, I actually expect us to get a good running game going against you guys and heres why.

Because our passing attack is so potent that once Peyton and Co start picking up easy first downs and dominating your defense through the air, which I think our passing attack does just about every game, then your D will start playing pass and thats when we give it to Addai, and thats when theres plenty of room to run.

With all this being said, I for sure do respect the Texans run defense, infact I respect your as a unit. Going to be a great game

Addai got 100 yards last Christmas... but this year, our front four is playing so well that we can still drop 7 into coverage, and be effective against the run.

you will do no such thing! you will have to fight, claw, and work for those honors which have not been given out lightly. you'll also be seeing horizontal peyton which will make your first downs even harder. and you'll also be seeing our 'sit peyton, sit' gameplan in full effect.

Yeah, well, that's what I'm worried about, especially on the first few drives, because this team is getting bad starts--although they do make up for it. The rest of the time, we're counting on a certain QB to get swallowed. Also, I think our front 4 with Ryans can stop Addai without much help, while the rest of the D is sitting back in coverage.

Then, we'll get the ball back and hit you with the Grenye Danye Tranye.

He is a good runner for sure, not a top back, but still one good enough to test our D. Plus it is a homecoming for him, so look for him to try and have a monster game.. I am sure the D is up for the challenge, and stopping Manning is job #1, everything else will fall into place...
