Schaub: Stand behind him!

I am an Atlantan that was laughrd off the call-in radio show two years ago when I recommended on the air to start Schaub over Vick. Put Vick in the slot I had recommended. I am glad Houston has Matty and I am now a Houston fan. But remember this: All QB's will make a bad play or two. What will make you a successful franchise is STAND BEHIND YOUR QB! I promise you will be well rewarded!!!

The timing was perfect to land Schaub. Thanks Rick and Kubes for pulling the trigger early on that trade(Thanks Mckay also). If not Atlanta still might have Schaub.

The old regime got fleeced by the Raiders for Pukechanon, we fleeced the hell out of the Falcons for a very good QB. Thank god for a quality GM.

In Schaub We Trust.

Really, I can't believe someone this good was available for trade. Since Petrino was never around Schaub, I guess he can be forgiven for making the deal. Who knew? But, the Bird's GM Rich McKay had seen Schaub over 3 seasons. What a blunder.

Want to know something really hilarious?

There are still some draftniks around here that still think Smith/Kubiak gave up too much to get him.

The1ApplePie knew.

I remember he suggested Schaub would be a good replacement for Carr sometime during last season...on the old board. Nice call Apple!

I saw some power rankings this week that were saying that Schaub looked like a back-up QB.

What does a guy gotta do to get some love?

Hate to do this...but it's been two games. Let's not proclaim Shaub our saviour JUST yet. Give him a few more games and we'll see. Even Carr had his days. I'm not saying that I'm NOT pumped that Shaub is doing so well...it's just...we've been screwed before. Cautious optimism for me.

It doesn't take more than a few games for me to see that Schaub is ten times the quarterback that David Carr is. He doesn't get happy feet under pressure. He is a bigger, stronger player with a prototype ( not sidearmed ) delivery, and he has the intangibles that Carr never had (confidence, respect from teammates, leadership, etc. ). I believe the Texans hit the jackpot with this guy.....

Don't be too cautious man.....In 5 years, the Texans under Carr never put up 34 points, Andre Johnson never had a 75+ yard TD pass, and Carr never could make the same looks Scaub has been able to do. Seriously, how many times during these 2 games have you said to your self "Carr never would have made that throw or seen that guy downfield"? He may not be our savior, but I've seen more in Schaub in 2 games than I saw in Carr in 5 years.

I was just listening to the national show on 610 , and a caller from Houston called in and I was like cool we are gonna hear something good . Instead , the guy hated on us . He said that KC is the worst team etc , and that Carolina is pretty much a one dimensional team with Jake to Steve Smith , and that they are a team on the decline . To my surprise both of the host shot right back at him and said they thought the Texans were legit , and that winning is contagious and they are calling them "The Darlings Of The NFL" . Pretty cool IMO , just thought I would pass that on . :texflag:

Not to mention that it's the first time we've gone 2-0.

I was a stand behind your QB with Carr. But, I think that I've seen the light with Schaub.
Texans are 2 and 0. That really says a lot.

Buddy Boy--
You're point about holding off on the anointing oil for now is pretty sound for someone who's just getting to know what Matt does (I'm not in that category--he played for my alma mater).

But your message posits that "we've been burned before" by Carr showing flashes of competence. I would say to that: go back over the past five years. Has Carr had any 8-quarter stretch that compares to what Matt's done in his first eight quarters for us (even with the Prevent Offense we played after going up 31-14 today)?

I'm probably not the right person to make this point because I've been on the Schaub bandwagon for five years. I know I'll be looking foolish if things turn sour, but they will not. He's not Favre/Elway/Montana, but he will have one whale of a career.

Bottom line: don't be afraid to believe!

In the first 8 games of the 2004 season, Carr averaged 270 yards per game. We went 4-4 in that stretch. During that stretch, he had 9 TD's and 5 interceptions.

And we were SURE we were going to the playoffs.

From that point until he was released, he averaged 160-170 yards per game and his TD to INT ratio went south.

Just be glad Plummer decided to retire, or he might have been here instead.
:shudder:
Plummer would have improved this team but Schaub is a viable longterm fix of the QB situation and not just a rent-a-player bandaid. Schaub still has a long way to go in his development but he is already light years of what you would expect from such a young player. Schaub makes mistakes but, WHO DOESN'T. Schaub looks totally legit out there and his play fakes are a breath of fresh air after years of bad QB play. This is Schaub's year to develop and peddle his craft but if we can compete for a playoff spot in the process, so be it. It's all gravy at this point and things look great for the future.

Owen Daniels also won me over 100% on Sunday. Even Casserley knew this guy was good. He made so many huge catches for us to get us in manageable down and distance and really stepped up after his fumble (which could have been ruled as down by contact) He showed as much heart as any Texan in history. Schaub came over and told the defense that they would get it rolling and that OD and ther rest of the offense would step up. And boy they did.

I just really hope that AJ isn't too dinged to give it a go against the Colts. We need him but if we are missing him I think the team will rally around that and accept the challenge. It's time to unleash the pass rush versus Manning. If you don't pressure Manning, he will just crush you.

The thing is though, you have to get that pressure from the front 4 only. Send in your coverage people on the blitz, and he'll crush you that way, too.

It will be up to Matt Schaub and offense to beat Manning.

It has been proven on more than one occasion that if you smack Pay-me-a-ton around a bit he derails. The $64,000.00 queston is how to do that and not get burned by him if your late getting to him. If you can get to him with the front 4 it is a good thing. If not, we will have to do some blitzing. Can't do it a lot and can't make it easy to see where it is coming from to make it work with Manning otherwise he will kill you for blitzing. The defense will have to be earning their paychecks on Sunday if we hope to win.
