Two good young QB's surrounded by two talented young offenses...

I think I heard that Staley was starting at LT...

I was really high on the guy and I thought he was the second best LT in this draft......

Should be a good game....

Terrible Throw by Matt....LOL...what was he looking at....

He'll get it together...

I just picked up a signed Alex Smith jersey for a steal, so of course, I am now paying attention to his qb skills.

Yeah I know, intercepted right off the bat! Either he's gonna overcome it or head down the crapper in a hurry. I'm thinking option #2. I've never had high expectations for the guy for some reason and I don't even know that much about his playing capabilities.

I've been impressed the few times I've watched him...

I think he'll be a good QB for them...

We shall see.....

I think he rebounds in a big way....

stay tuned folks....

Where, I want one

I won a silent auction at a fundraiser. There were so many outstanding offerings that somehow the jersey didn't attract as much attention and I was there waiting to scoop down. Try Ebay, but check the feedback, because I have been able to pick up some good deals. Of course, offseason is usually the best time.

LOL...Just messin with ya...

I knew you'd respond...

yeah I figured :user:

would like to know how both rookie tackles are fareing Brown & Staley. its gonna be real tough for Levi (I'm not trying to make excuses) cause Matt is really, really slow & doesn't have a strong throw, then as someone already mentioned the edge is dull so that really pins the DE's, Safetys & LB's (Willis) ears back. well we all know that drill here. I think the Texans would beat both teams handedly.

I'm thinking we maybe should have given Patrick Willis a harder look...

I love Okoye, but this guy is amazing...

He is so freaking fast...He covers ground like a lightning bolt...And then he arrives with bad intentions....

your not alone, great young cant miss prospect but sometimes its that unknown potential that over rides reason or worse yet need.

Yeah I like Willis too. Problem he plays the same position as Meco. Do you move Meco outside? He was very effective as a mike. Do you move Willis outside? Can he really play outside? Sometimes you cant draft best player but one with the best potential in a need position.

There's something I gotta say...the play where Patrick Willis burst into the backfield when the Cards were pinned in their own 10 was amazing. Credit goes to all of the defense though. All of the guys played great, and it felt really good to see the D play like that after seeing the Cards O manhandle us the past two years.

Props to Alex Smith and the offense on the last drive too, real impressive. Special teams also played fantastic tonight, Mo-Hicks (KR) and the coverage units along with Andy Lee (P) and Nedney (K) were all on the money. Brandon Williams (PR) had a good game also.

I was in favor of SF choosing Carriker at the time of the draft, and I feel kind of dumb now :specnatz:

I watched this kid play at Ole Miss and he plays like a man possessed! I really wanted us to draft him but knew with Ryans being a similar great young talent and the money we had in Greenwood, compounded by the fact T. Johnson was slacking and Okoye was available it was just another of my dreams that would be crushed.

I think I saw Staley playing RT for most of the game.

He did alright. Got abused bad once though.

Man, Patrick Willis looked like he could have played any position on the field last night...

That guy is lighting in football pads...and then he's huge...

SanFran has themselves quite a LB....

This was a good football game...

Your defense played a really good game...especially your DB's...

P.Willis is all over the place...Fitz and Boldin couldn't find much breathing room, and the pressure in Leinarts face was ridiculous....

Perhaps Clements was worth the money?...

I'm right there with you. I really liked Patrick Willis, having watched him for a few years. The guy just has the instinct and will get it done. I would have loved if we drafted him and totally would have supported him playing Mike and moving Demeco outside.

That is a debate I refuse to get into again.

I was also very high on Amobi though, just because he was so intriguing. Once Atlanta chose that DE from Ark (lol) I knew Amobi would be a Texan. I would have drafted Amobi and was cheering before we made the selection so I can't say I'm dissapointed. Our dline is really stepping it up and IF Amobi develops in 2-3 years to be dominant...we will have an incredible dline and it will be worth it.

Patrick Willis definitly would have more of an immediate impact and would have given us The two youngest/best LB duo in the nfl. From a 'building a team' standpoint (along with football intellligence, instintct, and character) I would chose Demeco and Patrick combo over Urlacher/Briggs. I know I'm going to get bashed for saying that, but its the truth.

Anywho-back to the game. I was very impressed with the 9'ers defense as a whole. They had tremendous speed. Patrick was flying into the backfield and making some really sound tackles. Go 9'ers!

You where right about Willis & the 49ers defense looks great :)

the 49ers had themselves quite the offseason, better than average draft & free agency aquistions. yet I'm not sold on Alex Smith & as we all know the key component in the NFL is the QB. in a single move Kubiak/Smith upgraded the Texans more than the 49ers for the price of a pair of 2nd rounders. Conversley the 49ers traded up to get Joe Staley costing their 1st rd. pick next year (any guesses that it will be better than 28th where the Pats would have picked?) & a 4th rd selection. frankly I wouldnt trade Schaub for Alex Smith & Joe Staley & thats two first round picks + (sorry for going draft frenzy on you guys but I just cant help it) :embarrass

I'm not a fan of Alex Smith. Quite frankly I know very little about him. But I do like the 9'ers and hope he develops into a decent qb.

I'm right there with you on Schaub. There was some players that really could have helped us in the 2nd round....and I have a feeling we're going to see a number of guys in the '08 2nd round we like BUT I really do think Schaub is the real deal. Everything about him speaks winner imo.

At first I thought 2 2nd rders was steep but still supported the trade. Now I think it was a great trade, if not a steal. (I don't look at it as we got the better end, or we were the winners and ATL were the losers. The bottom line is he makes our team THAT much better and was worth the price. Whether ATL goes to the super bowl with those 2 2nd rders or get the #1 pick overall is irrellevant to the trade being worth it for us. I think some fans are too caught up in there having to be 1 winner and 1 loser: The truth is there can be 2 winners or 2 losers.)

what really amazed me watching the game first hand (Texans/Chiefs) was the speed at which decisions have to be made, the fact he held onto the ball even when hit from the blindside with no chance to get rid of the ball. there could have easily been a fumble on a couple situations, two or three more sacks, overthrown balls (as it turned out only one was underthrown in the corner of the endzone for that pick, but hey if Andre could have kept his balance & reacted better to the flight of the ball, cause it was hanging, he might have at least knocked it down). as a matter of fact I'm trying to think of a better up & coming QB than Schaub but I digress once again.

good game of two teams struggling to have winning seasons :shades:

Putting Willis at MLB and DeMeco at the will would have given us an insane linebacker core...too bad.

I've never been high on Alex Smith. I just thought the 49's got in the position drafting first where they obviously neded a QB and the other 1 round QBs weren't as good nor merited the top pick. I think ALex has a chance to develop into a solid QB. Goesback to if Trent Dilfer can win a SB any competant QB can. SF has the stuff to make a move this year in the NFC west. Gore needs to have confidence in his broken hand and Alex needs to continue to grow. He did step up big on teh last drive though and that's something to build on for sure.

As for Arizone they always seem to have talent but have never been able to really bring it all together. It's Ken Wisenhunts turn at the helm and i think he has a chance to bring it together. The biggest question there IMO is the line and that's supposed to be Ken's specialty.

I left the game wondering....is the 49's offense that anemic and is their d really that solid? Cards....i hate setting back into prevent defense when you got a young QB who hasn't done much of anything all day long and you've gotten good pressure on him.TWo youngteams and the NFC West will be fun towatch this year. Might not be the best division this year but could be the most competitive.

I like the Cards a lot. That was a tough loss. But they have a lot to be proud of too.

Good for Alex Smith. He stepped up when he needed to.

Both teams have a lot to work on. I hope the Cards can bounce back and that Leinart can recover from that poor outing.

Now the national media should know what terrible offensive lines really look like. Both of those teams sucked it up last night.
