Offensive Rookie of the Year???

Shaft75

All Pro
I was just watching Total Access on NFLN and Rod Woodson predicted our very own Jacoby Jones would be the most impressive offensive rookie this year. Ahead of Calvin Johnson, Marshawn Lynch, Adrian Peterson, Dwayne Bowe, Dwayne Jarret, Ted Ginn, Robert Meachem, etc...

You gotta love it! Man I hope he goes off this year.

I very seriously doubt that he will win rookie of the year.

It is very tough for a receiver to win that award.

Jones had a spectacular preseason and that has brought him the attention that leads to such huge predictions. I expect him to have a solid season, win the number two spot by mid season, but I hope people don't have too high expectations of him and get disappointed if he doesn't set the league on fire.

I caught that last night too. Although it was kind of weird hearing Rod Woodson say something about the Texans.

I was thinking about this earlier and actually think Jacoby has a better chance than most people realize. Kubiak thinks he's a special player and is going to get him the ball. I don't think he's going to make all sorts of receiving TD's and set records for rookies but I do think he will get more touches than any other rookie wide out.

QB's: I will go on record and say Jamarcus Russell nor Brady Quinn will win it (no other qb either)
RB's: Marshawn Lynch, Adrian Peterson are both favorites, Chris Henry might see enough action to be thrown into the mix, i'm drawing a blank on other RB's that might have an impact this season...(michael bush, kenny irons, antonio pittman, ken darby, all doubtful imo)
TE's: doubtful?
OL: doubtful?
WR's: Calvin Johnson, Dwayne Bowe, Robert Meachem, Ted Ginn, Dwayne Jarrett, Jacoby Jones, Anthony Gonzalez, whole slew of wr's taken in 3rd rd...

We'll see how much ted ginn figures into the wr spot in miami.

I just think Jacoby is going to see a lot more action than most of the other wr's and that kubiak is going to put him in positions to make big plays. I see CJ as his biggest competitor at wr but he's got a few wr's that will see the ball more on the lions...then the RB's..Lynch and Peterson could have big years but are they sharing carries?

Offense: Jacoby Jones, WR, Houston
Defense: Patrick Willis, LB, Ole Miss (I actually think Reggie Nelson has a decent chance at DROY too, he could make a lot of int's)

Maybe he was just trying to piss off Jamie Dukes.

Remember when he sweat out a 10 gallon bucket at our training camp?:heat:

Rod has the Jets as his #5 in his AFC Power Rankings....in other words, he has no credibility.

i do like that JJ is getting love but its a little early...lets see him do it this Sunday b4 we crown him.

Heck if yer gonna take JJ then why not:

Jacoby Jones : offensive rookie of the year

amobi okoye : defensive rookie of the year

I'll handicap it this way for oroy:

Most likely:

Adrian Peterson

Second:

Marshawn Lynch

Third:

Jacoby Jones

RB get so many touches, but if Jacoby does a Devin Hester imitation on returns AND has a good impact at the WR spot, he could pull it off! :splits:

Irons is out for the year and Pittman in unemployed (should have stayed at OSU!).

Gonzo is WR #3 and I don't think has a shot. As for Ginn, I think he's going to start slow, but maybe by the end of the year if he plays enough?

Same with Calvin J. Though he better start and getting plenty of catches, I have him in FF.

If Jacoby continues as he has played, I think he actually has a shot.

Well, if he doesn't then he at least holds the title of:

"Offensive pre-season rookie of the year"

I agree. I think jacoby is #1 out of QB's and WR's, but those two RB's are more likely candidates, depending on how they play.

I dont see Peterson getting enough action, as far as that goes, I see JJ getting the most opportunity to shine.

I thought the Rams signed Pittman off of waivers. I know the Bengals were trying to get him but St. Louis had priority.

It will probable be another over rated QB that can't hit his WRs or throw more TDs than INTs, but can run.

I dont care if he is OROY or not...I just want him to be able to create some mis-matches for AJ. Something Moulds could not do.

A dark horse might be RB Brandon Jackson for GB with the injuries they have at RB he is going to be forced into acton early and often.

Jacoby would be a surprise, point blank but I care more about his long term prospects & bringing him along in a way that doesnt stunt his developement. I pray Jacoby keeps his work ethic & continues to strive, improving his craft & not getting too many pre-mature acolades.

that being said Greg Olsen has impressed the hell out of me so far, the speed of the NFL has not been a problem it looks like hes been playing in the league for years already. I would expect him to have a big season for da bears

I agree whole heartedly. Jacoby has certainly looked like he has been a diamond in the rough. If we establish our running game and develope Jacoby into a hands down #2 receiver, we could go into 08 knowing we could possibly have one of the best 1 and 2 combinations in the league. His route running will tell the story. We know he has quick feet, an excellent burst, and good hands. If he can run routes then he will definately be a 3rd round phenom. Lets just hope he isn't just another punt return specialist, we have enough one trick ponies.

My $0.02

That's right NO. Pittman was claimed off of waivers by St. Louis and signed to their active 53 man roster.

Cinci may well have wanted him and hinted at such leading up to cut day. We held a couple of joint practices with the Bengals in preseason and we all pretty much figured they would go after whichever running back we cut since we're deep there and they're pretty thin after losing Irons. They ended up signing fifth round draft pick CB David Jones off of waivers after we undoubtedly tried to sneak him onto the practice squad. That dissapointed me moreso than Pittman.

Cool, thanks. I know Cincy definitely put in a claim for him put lost out because of the priority issue. Anyway, good luck tonight--it should be a great game. Thank goodness football season has returned.

Normally I would agree, but people all over the country are saying the same thing about us right now. They could pull off a decent team this year. Definitely not the Texans though!

JJ......he'll shine, but not that bright. We would have to have a 10-6 season at the least for him to get this, and he would need to be responsible for at least 3 wins. Then they would say something like "JJ pulled the Texans over the 8-8 mark for the first time ever"...you know how they are about Houston.

So unless Steven Jackson gets hit by a bus...

Jones has a realistic shot, in my opinion. If he does well as a reciever, I am thinking 800 yards and 5 TD's, and adds 3 or 4 more TD's off of returns, maybe 1 on a reverse, he could win it.

If I want to "crown him", then I can "crown his *ss". And I won't "let him off the hook".

Heh, pretty much. I doubt he sees the field at all this year, mostly inactive. I don't think Pittman is a bad back, but I don't think he has the body for the type of running style he uses (about the same size, weight as Reggie). He runs like a power back - very upright - but doesn't get a lot of push and tends to go down on first contact. He has ok speed but didn't show much shake and didn't hit the hole very hard as well as having an absolutely horrid time adjusting to the blitz pickups nearly getting one of our backup QBs killed. He also didn't play (or at least play well) on special teams, so that didn't do him any favors.

UFA Pierre Thomas from Illinois clearly outplayed Pittman in pretty much every facet of the game in preseason and forced our hand into keeping him, which is a good thing.

Enjoy that extra draft pick we gave up to get Pittman in the fourth though. Oh well, at least it shows we aren't afraid to cut ties with an underperformer just because of draft status. That's for sure something Haslett was known for.

I say Ted Ginn is a dumb man's Jacoby Jones.

Why spend the 9th overall when you get more w/ a 3rd rounder!?

Hopefully that ends up being the case, but I'll withhold judgment of either player until the regular season starts for them.

For the record, I do think Double J will be the better player. We shall see.
