Kevin Kolb

jgl35

Rookie
I know some of you are interested in how he is doing.
Andy Reid said today that Kolb will play the whole second half Monady at Balt.
Kolb has had a good camp. In my opinion from what I saw at camp, Kolb has the most physical ability of any young QB to come through here since McNabb. Easy to see why he was taken where he was.
He has developed a good grip on the offense and has shown to have a starting NFL arm. Even with 4 QB's in camp before the vet repored, Kolb was getting almost 50% of the work.
With the vets in, he worked mostly with the third team, but did get some work throwing to Brown and Curtis.
Kolb has mastered the slant. Throws a very catchable ball. Has been high on deep throws.
He does have his up and down days, but to be expected as a rookie.
I don't expect him to play this season even if someone goes down. I don't believe they will rush him. Work him to death in practice and let him study the offense from up close.
He has to beat out Feeley first. Feeley knows the offense inside and out. Kolb gets the year to learn.

Glad to know Kevin is doing well. I hope he doesn't have to play at all this year and can just sit back and learn. I know a lot of people here in Houston will be keeping up with him.

I'm listening to the Eagles game on NFL radio and the radio guys are really impressed with Kolb. His numbers are not that impressive but they say there has been about 5 or 6 dropped passes. They also say that his poise and ability to feel the pressure is well above what a rookie should have. There are nothing but good things being said.
Of course, it is the Eagles Radio Network so it should be taken with a little grain of salt.

Thanks for the updates, I wish I could catch at least one of the Eagles preseason games so I could watch him in action.

I tried to stay up to watch the game (came on at 11:00), but the score was so out of whack, I decided that bed was a better option...

Did anyone SEE this game? I wanted to see Troy and Kevin play and we get crappy SF instead :(

I saw part of this game. I didn't really pay close attention.

From what I saw, the Ravens were blitzing the living snot out of Kolb. It was ridiculous. He looked OK. He completed some passes. He looked fairly mobile but he looked like a rookie getting the living hell thrown at him.

I was lurking at the Eagles Message board and while reviews were mixed, most seemed to think he did well given the pressure in his face non-stop. They think he showed a lot of poise and potential.

I was watching the game, and damn, the Ravens showed no mercy. Antwan Barnes was an absolute beast. The Ravens have a ridiculous amount of depth on their defense.

I've been chatting about the NFL with jgl35 for years privately.....he has an excellent eye for the game and over the years has been extremely credible when projecting or breaking down what he sees.

thanks for the update.

And I've been chatting with Jgl35 personally about life in general for sometime as well. I can tell you that I consider him a friend in the truest sense. His insight into football is only surpassed by his insight into life's up and downs.

Thanks J for all you've shared with me.

May God's Blessings be on you and yours.

You spelled Kevin wrong... :wild:

No. That's how it's said in Philly. We talk different.

From what I saw, Kolb has good pocket presence and played with poise. Didn't look any where near like a rookie in his first NFL game.

He throws a tight spiral and they are right on the numbers of the receiver.A very catchable ball. Moves well and throws are effective on the move. Good, not great arm. Makes good reads and gets the ball off and to the correct receiver.

Under heavy pressure with two men in his face, threw off his back foot and almost completed the pass. This was the only bad pass I saw him throw all night.

Only real rookie mistake was when Kolb thought the play was a run and the back thought pass. Kolb hit the runner on the hip and lost the ball.

What I like most about him is his moxie. This kid has a winning atitude, but it doesn't come across as "in your face". It's an "I am going to do what it takes to beat you" The really good ones have this. Nothing bothers him. Balt. hit him late on his first NFL play. Sacked on his second. Got up and threw a dart.
From what I saw of Smith, to the guy that asked, he didn't really stand out. Is running number three. Did pull it down and make a nice run, but this alone doesn't push Bolller.

Vinny and T.A., thanks for the kind words.

You are!! I've never chatted personally with jgl either, but, he has been around these boards for a long time. I have said often that there are about 5-6 posters who's opinions I respect, and will make a point to read everything they post, jgl's is one of them. He is a respectful opposing team fan, and I appreciate what he brings to a thread.

I would love to see a forum set up with a respectful rep from an opposing team coming here the week before we play them, to give us more insite as to what/who to watch for. For those of us who don't know other teams players as well as some of you, it would be an easy way to gain information that would make the game more interesting. I know I could access their boards, spend hours wadding through all the BS, spend most of my free time, which is very little, doing my own research, but, it just makes it more fun to read it here. PLUS, it would give us a way to establish meaningful relationships with other teams fans. Some smack talk is fun, but, I much perfer reading about football.

KK looked great tonight against the Steelers.
26/37 260yds 1 TD

He looked like a veteran out there.

I only got to watch a little bit towards the end. I was really impressed with Kolb. He did throw well on the run imo, there was some debate before the draft if he could or not- i never got to watch him at uh.

I think he rushed a few passes, esp one with a few seconds left in the game on the left side of the field. he put it in the right spot though where the defender couldn't touch it.

There were several passes that should have been caught. 1 for a TD at the end. I loved that perfectly thrown ball over the defender- i think the play went to review, hard to tell if the wr got both feet down but i believe it was ruled a catch?

anyways- i wish him the best of luck, i think he played very well.
