I am sure it has been covered somewhere but I am struggling to find it so I will ask afresh.

PUP listed players, do they count against the 53 man roster??

Injured reserve, they don't do they?
 
IIRC, they do not count against the 53 man roster up until week 6. The player must then be added to the 53 man roster or placed on IR.

IR players do not count, as they cannot play all season.
 
There's also a difference than the PUP list during pre-season and PUP list during the regular season.

During the preseason, you can pull people off the PUP list. But when the season starts, if they're on the PUP list, you can't use them until week 6 and then you've got a couple of weeks to either pull them off and put them onto the roster, waive them, or IR them.

I think. I'm sure there are several people here who are clearer about the way it works.

Well, right now, we can have 80 on the active roster, I think. (Someone correct me if I'm wrong about that.) On August 28th, we have to cut down to 75. And then on September 1st, we cut to 53.

In the past, I think there was a bit more time between the cuts.
