Is it just me, or does anyone else think this is kind of surprizing? Why wouldn't they keep him around for 'ahem' leadership?:cool:

The youth movement at safety has officially begun, as the Jaguars informed Donovin Darius on Thursday morning that the team was releasing him. So ends the Jaguars career of the player who has started more games than any other defensive player in franchise history.

He's had some injuries, and been a little outspoken.

I'd LOVE for him to come to Houston. Now that would make me feel alot better about the upcoming season.

Is that leadership worth a $3.5 million salary? I'm surprised it took this long to release Darius, after his play and injuries the past 2 seasons.

Daruis is strictly an in the box SS at this point of his career. At best. A bad fit for the Texans.

LOL.... He was fast, but not a speed demon. He really wasnt a great threat to go the distance, he was just sure-handed and never really made any mistakes that caused bad field position.

Anyway, in talking about Darius, I thought it was him from the Jags that hit Moses late one time.. But then again, that could have been any number of Jags players...

I agree that Darius wouldn't be a good fit for the Texans. If anything we'd have three SS's with one nearing the end of his career.

I would've much rather seen Darius' former teammate Deon Grant in a Texans uniform this season, but I believe Seattle snatched him up during FA.
 
No thank you to Darius. I don't think he's the kind of safety we need at this point...

Darius was the one who gave the shalaylee on Ferguson coming across the middle. It was a questionable forearm shot that knocked Ferguson out cold.

Ferguson was knocked out by a vicious forearm to the head by Jacksonville safety Donovin Darius following a 31-yard completion Sunday. The powerful blow ripped off Ferguson's helmet and sent him hurtling to the ground.

But speaking of safety's....

Is it out of the realm of possibilities tha C.C, in only his second year at FS, could show growth and get better ? It's not like he doesn't have the physical tools...Seems to be a good kid that takes coaching well...He's fast enough...he's physical enough....He's got the size

What if all he needed was to become more comfortable because he had never played the position before ? Maybe he just needed to get the mental part and technique down ?

Not suggesting C.C is the answer, but I do think he is a better player than Earl...

i agree 100%... i have him down for our most improved/ surprising player this year.. he seems to have a good rep with the coaches and other players (iirc demeco even singled him out as one of the players who are helping the D improve further this year).. still not sure if hes our long term fs but could turn into a quality starter

Actually, we're not talking about Darius' hit on Ferguson. It was Jimmy Redmond that laid the hit on JJ here in Houston back in 2003:

That little punk-ass runt can talk about how the fair-catch signal was late all the livelong day, but everybody knows that he and the rest of the no-talent ass clowns on the Jags return teams were just tired of J.J. pissin’ on them. The ball wasn’t anywhere close to arriving and Redmond tried to injure him, plain and simple. He might consider a name change from “Redmond” to “Deadman” cuz Jimmy’s gonna get his in December. That is, if he’s still around. If you’re a wideout with a number in the teens not named “Keyshawn” you’d probably be best off renting.

We have good strong safeties. We need a ball-hawking free safety.
With a good FS our SS will look real good.

Personally I wouldn't consider that a cheap shot on Ferguson. Back in the good old days of the NFL it was called football. Nowadays, it seems everyone expects receivers to get a free pass over the middle, back then, everyone knew that you better be prepared to take a beating if you went over the middle and to help free up their receivers teams would pound the safeties with big fullbacks on running plays as well as passing to massive tightends that could absorb as well as deal out the punishment. Until recently, an example of a cheap shot would have been a hit on a player out of bounds, or after the whistle was blown, or a late hit on a quaterback after he threw a pass or handed off. It makes me wonder what the NFL will be like in 30 years. Maybe at that point all the players will have flags tucked into their tutu's as they flitter down the field on their pointe shoes trying to avoid having their flag pulled.
 
Are we looking at D. Darius for an upgrade at Safety over Brown and Earl? I know he's a strong safety, and I heard he's a great locker room guy. He could be a good veteran to mentor Harrison.

Yeah a corner or safety should not be good enough to block the ball, he ought to be able to mug the receiver. Just like basketball, knock the guy down to prevent a score.
