Article on Brandon Frye

Myrtle Beach Sun:

The 6-foot-4, 304-pounder is already listed as the team's third-string right tackle and fourth-string left tackle on the Texans' unofficial depth chart.

However, the Houston Chronicle also mentioned that Frye's athleticism raises the option of moving him to guard or center, although Texans offensive line coach John Benton said Tuesday that Houston's primary goal is to keep Frye at tackle.

"Some guys are pretty good players but pretty laissez-faire on tape. He jumps off the tape at you as a guy who is trying to create," Benton said in answer to some questions e-mailed to him. "He's trying to get things done. I also thought he had a big upside; converted defensive lineman still learning the position.

"So a lot of times, you'll get a guy like Brandon, that's an athlete like that - strong like that, aggressive like that - and you still know he's got more of the game to learn. You even feel like you maybe cheated the system a little bit and got a better player."

Benton said Frye will get plenty of repetitions in the early days of minicamp.

I went to Myrtle Beach High School my freshman year. So I guess I need to root extry for Brandon.

I once had my picture in the Myrtle Beach Sun playing junior high basketball of all things. I think I'd be too vain to be a athlete with my picture in the paper a lot because when you are playing sports you often can get goofy looks on your face. But I digress.....

Good luck Mr. Frye.

Here's a small write-up about him. The write-up says many of the same things as the article. Frye has kind of a mischievous look about him if you ask me.

NFL Draft Countdown - Brandon Frye

Even though I watched a couple of VT games this year, I don't remember hearing anything about him from the commentators. That is actually a good thing for a lineman, because the only time they get noticed when they screw up.

Rep for the term "extry"

wow looks like kubiak might have a spot for him, once we develop him, good be a great player in the future

With TE-like 40 times in the 4.7-4.8 range, this guy has the classic athletic profile to be an OT in the ZB schemes that teams like the Texans & Broncos run. What's different about Frye is that he also has the strength measureables to help him play inside against the stronger DTs and gives him the kind of versatility that could help him contribute to the Texans. But thats measureables which of course are all on paper and don't necessarily indicate how he plays on the field ?
He is definitely a project as he is not only relatively new to the OLine but started only one year in college. But he's a fifth-rounder, which is where you wanta take projects.
BTW this guy looks like he was also a serious achiever academically. He was National Honor Soceity in HS and already has his degree in Finance.

I spent an interesting 4 day pass in Myrtle Beach S.C. when I was in Marine Corps. Even pulled a drowning young lady from the ocean. Pretty place.
