Panthers release receiver Keyshawn Johnson

Well there goes that silly he's gonna mentor Dwayne Jarrett non-sense...

I hope that he retires. I'd rather see him on the ESPN set anyway. Love him or hate him, the dude's good TV.

hahahahahahahahahahahahahaha!! *catches breath* hahahahahahahahahahahahahaha!! He was so excited during the draft.........hahahahahahahahahahahahahah

Where is the room? Moss, Stallworth, Washington and Welker were signed this off season.

I was just joking...

It's highly unlikely the Patriots would be interested, but if Keyshawn wanted to play for them I'm sure they'd take him at a reduced rate...

I'm thinking Atlanta or Tennessee could be among the first teams to take a hard look. Tennessee needs him, Atlanta delusionally thinks he'll help.

Hey, he could be a Texan!
Just think about it... He could totally mentor Kevin Walter while providing a credible #2.
I mean, the guy was a #1 pick overall.

That's kinda funny. He seemed to be hyped up over the drafting of Dwayne Jarrett then he's released. The Texans should sign him because we still don't have a #2 wide reciever. Kevin Walter was traded for a 7th round pick. Andre Davis had all of 2 catches last season. Jacoby Jones seems to be more of a project right now. Who knows about Jerome Mathis. I wouldn't mind him here.

If he would take a paycut, I would like him here. He'd be a credible #2 and he is a great possesion guy...Say what you want, he's lost a step, he isn't a threat of days past, true, but he would be able to take the double team away from AJ, and that alone makes him a good fit! Well that and if he keeps his mouth shut and just give him the damn ball....

Maybe he praised it for the cameras and made a stink about it behind the scenes, leading to this move (as a last straw sort of deal)

I think he sounded pretty good in front of the camera during the draft. Despite his attitude at times he is a guy who will catch alot of balls across the middle.

Wouldn't be suprised to see him in Seattle (didn't the Seahawks trade away Darrell Jackson?) or maybe even Greenbay (after they refused Moss for a 4th!) cause Favre does need some help.

What's really funny--Cassserlyesque funny--is the Panthers game Keyshawn a $3 mil roster bonus last month.

No $3 million bonus for Johnson

Let's clear up a little matter here before it gets too wide-spread: The Panthers DID NOT pay Keyshawn Johnson a $3 million roster bonus on April 1, as has been reported elsewhere and has fans scratching their heads.

The Panthers did pay Johnson $1 million April 1. But that was deferred money from the signing bonus he agreed to when he initially signed with the Panthers. Johnson also was due a $1 million reporting bonus at the start of training camp. Obviously, he won't get that money and it won't count against the salary cap.

I know I don't post very often and my words won't warrant much merit but I'm on this site virtually everyday and it perplexes me when a highly respected member as yourself gets his facts a little mixed up. I'm sure it wasn't intentional but I clearly read this as to them NOT paying him a 3 million dollar roster bonus. It was merely a deferred payment from last season's signing bonus.

That point has come out in the last few hours. What was being reported on the radio and PFT earlier was the $3 mil figure. Makes more sense the way it is being reported now.

I understood this perfectly clear from the FIRST story/link that broke out in this thread among others. It was clear from the beginning. It's not being reported any different. Just being reported in a more 'dumbed down' version now but it was always clear that this was a deferred move. So you based this on comments that came from the radio. As much as I WISH I could hear the radio (I'm Deaf) but even I know that it's one of the most unreliable sources out there.

Hey, good job of correcting the story. But, there's no need in rubbing someone's nose in it. OK?

Titans | Team interested in K. Johnson
Wed, 2 May 2007 06:54:15 -0700

Jim Wyatt, of the Tennessean, reports the Tennessee Titans have expressed some interest in free-agent WR Keyshawn Johnson (Panthers). "We are interested in Keyshawn, to what extent I can't tell you. We'll look at the tape and see where he is," head coach Jeff Fisher said. "This is a deal that it could happen and it may not happen, we just don't know."

I don't know what their cap situation is or how much he's looking for, but the fact is Andre Johnson is a pro bowler only if there's a threat on the other side of him.

Keyshawn'd be perfect - a big physical possession receiver who doesn't take plays off, good hands, and an absolutely VICIOUS downfield blocker who likes hitting people (a rarity at the receiver position). I'm willing to give Jacoby Jones the benefit of the doubt, but having a guy who managed 70 catches for 815 yards without being the primary receiver and having Delhomme as his QB is a guy who'd be a serious asset here...

Totally off subject, but does anyone know what the heck the situation is with Jerome Mathis? I know he broke his foot over a year ago and came back for what, one game for the Texans? How do we lose a guy who was a pro bowler his rookie season and one of the most young promising return guys in the NFL without hearing anything in the media about it?

And I don't consider Keyshawn a threat. Tread's worn off those tires a long time ago.

I am not one ready to throw Keyshawn in the same realm with TO and RMoss, because they do say that Keyshawn does work very hard... BUT, we need a deep threat to stretch the field. Keyshawn's strength is over the middle and underneath routes..

check out 610 pod cast rick smith states he is not really interested in him he said he would not rule it out but doubts very sereiously that is the route that we would go. just fyi

What the heck, they might as well. He'd probably be too expensive though, he has a high price according to ESPN.

agreed rick smith also said in his radio spot that they were looking more for speed which is not really what Keyshawn was about.

i can only see Keyshawn going to Houston if he's run out of places to check out, or no one wants to sign him.

To be fair, I only said he should come here as a joke.

I mean, I'd sign him to a small contract but that is in violation of the bigmouth clause and he'd probably retire first, anyway.
