This is where Rick Smith shines - UDA's

If you haven't had a chance to see the list of UDA's check it out.... http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/sports/fb/texansfront/4761678.html

OH man..... I love Zabransky.

Someone explain to me how this practice squad thing works again.... If we put Zabransky on the practice squad, would other teams be able to sign him??

I'm not ready to have a Schaub, Rosenfels, & Zabransky as our depth... I'd rather hold onto Van Pelt for another year at least.

Now Plummer, Sage & Zabransky, I could have gone for that.

It would be better for us, if we don't see Lucas at all this year. If he's as you say he is, then Kubiak will take his time with him on the practice squad this year, ease him into the line-up next year, and he'll anchor the position for 10 years to come.

brandon mitchell has a decent shot at being a backup FS at least....

plus the punter looks to have a decent shot also

and TK- yeah other teams could sign him but they'd have to give him a 53 man roster place

Can't you send a player to NFL Europe and retain his rights?

TK! Glad to see you finally made over here man... I left you a PM on the HT boards because I hadn't seen you here, and didn't know if you knew what was going on here.
I left PMs for 7 people, and in the last 5 days none of them has even been read... man the PM system on the software is horrible.

(*edit* I just went and looked at my outgoing PMs on the other board and saw that the one I sent you had been viewed once. Did you read it?)

To answer your question about the practice squad, another team can sign one of our PS guys, but they have to put him on their active roster, and if I'm not mistaken, they must keep him on it for the entire year.

Two years ago, the Jaguars tried to sign Kenneth Pettway from our practice squad and he denied the opportunity. We did play him eventually, though I'm sure he's long gone.

lol guess where he plays now . . .

Anyways, Im a big fan of Cory Anderson getting picked up as a UDFA. This guy is a powerful blocker and can catch out of the backfield. The complaint about him is that he isn't much of a runner. In other words, he fits our mold at FB perfectly.

They do have to put the player on the 53 man roster. But, he is only guaranteed 3 weeks on the roster. If released after the 3 weeks, the player is on waivers. Once cleared, he can choose to sign with any team's practice squad.

I agree that this is a fantastic group of undrafted free agents. Zabransky is a good fit for this offense. And he'll be running the scout team offense, which will help simulate the faster QBs the Texans will face this season. Deljuan Robinson is actually a 295 lb DT, who had open heart surgery before entering college. Really stepped up his game as a senior with 12.5 TFL. Derrick Roberson put up some freakish numbers in postseason workouts, and could push for a roster spot if he excels on special teams during the preseason.

Just noticed this about Wilbur, the Punter we're bringing in for a tryout:

Became the first punter in school history to be named a semifinalist for the Ray Guy Award…Named to the Sporting News All-Freshman Team and was chosen as the Rivals.com Freshman All-American in 2004…Named to the SEC All-Freshman Team in 2004 (Coaches)…Named to the Knoxville-News Sentinel All-Freshman Team in 2004…Named to the 2005 SEC Coaches' Second Team Preseason All-SEC Team…

CAREER: Has seen action in 35 games…Reached over 5,000 career-yards punting in the Peach Bowl against Miami…

Just noticed this about Wilbur, the Punter we're bringing in for a tryout:

Wilbur averaged 42.9 ypp for his career. Last season, he put 26 punts inside the 20, with only 3 touchbacks.

I want Wilbur to win the punting job for 2 reasons. One, Stanley has been a terrible punter the last two seasons. Two, I want to be able to yell "Willlllllburrrrrrr" everytime the punt team come out. Big Mr. Ed fan.

Roberson and/or Jones and/or Richardson could all become the special teams stand-outs, esp. at gunner, some of us hoped Kendrik Starling would become.

DeGrate played OLB for two years, before moving to DE at Oklahoma State. Guy might have a little something when it comes to rushing the QB.

Mitchell reminds me alot of John Walker, low experience, good size, good numbers and practice squad material this year.

LOL!

I like Stanley (loyalty), but the best man wins the job.
If Wilbur has a good showing, I will have to say sorry to Chad.

What do you all think about signing Gary Russell? HE was out of shape, but put him on the practice squad for a season, and then maybe to Europa and I think he could be pretty special.

typical ignorance from a texans fan

RT is done with drugs, and the bag wasnt even his in the first place

Maybe but when he had a chance, and showed up to his private session before UT's pro day fat and out-of-shpe it shows that there are reasons to still be concerned.

This is from his profile at NFL Draftcountdown:
Was kicked off the football team as a sophomore in high school...Was suspended in 2006 for academic reasons and was later arrested for drug possession when police found five pounds of marijuana in his backpack...Transferred to NAIA Texas College but did not play due to his academic troubles

How many chances did he have to clean his act up?

first of all he was suspended from UT for academic reason and the weed FOUND in his car was just the last straw for UT cause a college doesnt want a bad image.. so since a bag of weed was FOUND in his car means he shouldnt be able to redeem himself, cmon... and if someone would show interest in him he would get back into shape right away and be ready for training camp... but right away most of the texans fans who have no idea what actually happened go and judge someone they dont even know... "lets not sign one of the most physically gifted athletes in college football because hes a lil bit out of shape from being out of the game for acouple months". thats dum yo.

academic troubles, shoot lots of people dont excel in school, im failing english right now in my senior year of highschool, so that makes me a bad person right?

It isn't a case of teams needing to court a guy who busted out of college. If he can't generate enough work-ethic to clean himself up, get in shape and show up like he wants to play, then they're not going to be pounding on his door.

It's not because he's been out of the game for a couple of months. It's because he didn't want to stay in shape. That's a decision he made. Decision making is a very important trait for a football player and if you have one chance to make it in the NFL and you don't bring it because you decided to let yourself go, you don't deserve any more chances and if you get one you should thank your lucky stars.

As for the pot in his car, if it wasn't his, he showed uncommonly bad judgment to let someone in with five pounds of weed.

I'm saying that we shouldn't sign him because not being ready for his pro day, espically since he no longer had any academic concerns, shows no desire to play in the NFL or not enough intellegence to know how important his pro day was. Ramonce Taylor = Maurice Clarett. Any Maurice sure is tearing it up in the NFL, isn't he. You can add Gary Russell and Mike Williams to the comparison list if you want.

It sounds like he has academic issues throught out his life. If he is not going to study after being given 4 chances (includes high school) what makes you think he is going to study a play book? Since he does not want to learn then he can go dig ditches for a living because I would not be giving him a contract. As far as being out of shape, maybe he should have been running 5 miles a day and doing 150 situps and 200 push ups a day so if a team wanted to work him out he would have been in shape. Maybe not football shape, but at least not the Lendale White offseason training regiment.

He can goto the CFL and prove himself all over again. Maybe you are so hung up on him because he went to tsip U, then you or and alumni can give him a job.

What's the point with the FOUND? It would be one thing if you said PLANTED. Look, we aren't talking a user quantity here which was FOUND in his buddy's backpack. We are talking five POUNDS of weed. That doesn't get in your car without your knowledge any more than 60 dogs get in the back yard of your house, along with three buildings, treadmills, etc.

First off, call me stupid again and I'll risk the banning.

Secondly, I rescend my comment on the Pac-Man to Mario comparsion. As you were right it was a bit hasty and a bit of a knee jerk.

Thrid, prove me wrong(this I'd really like to see you do. You're fall back response is to either call somebody stupid or to just ignore their valid points) Both were given ample shots at being succesful in the NFL and both were to lazy to keep themselves in anything near football shape. Why defend Ramonce, and yet bash LenDale White for getting fat? Same with Mike Williams? Ramonce may have been given more chances then Clarett. At some point you have to stop giving people chances because their past behaviour shows they are incapable of taking advantage of said chances.

good point. the later one, I mean! :whip:

ok...I don't have a dog in this fight, because I really could care less about him, but I read the original article on Ramonce and feel he deserves to be judged fairly. The weed was found in his car after HE called the cops to report that his car had been broken into. His rear window had been smashed in. Now, I don't know about you, but if I know there is weed in my car, I damn sure ain't going to call the cops without first removing the weed. Now he might be stupid enough to do that, but I doubt it.

I don't know about you, but if I'm innocent, I don't plea out to a felony drug charge.

Former Texas running back Ramonce Taylor was sentenced Thursday to 60 days in Bell County Jail and 350 hours of community service as part of a plea deal he agreed to two months ago for state felony drug possession charges.

Taylor also received five years of deferred probation and was fined $1,000. He was given the option of serving the jail time on weekends, so long as finishes the sentence by March 11 and maintains his status as a full-time student.

Taylor was arrested May 14 near Little River in Bell County. Taylor had called police to report that someone had broken a window on his truck while he and his friends were attending a graduation party. Deputies searched Taylor’s car and found a backpack of marijuana.
Enough with the "Taylor was framed" crap. He's never said that. He manned up to the charge and got a pretty good deal for himself. Why did he call the cops on himself? Maybe Taylor was using too much of his product. Who cares? I don't know what he was going to do with the weed, but it was his and he's admitted to as much. Case freaking closed.

academic troubles, shoot lots of people dont excel in school, im failing english right now in my senior year of highschool...

No kidding?

Be excited with this signing. Abbate was the key of that Wake Forest defense.

I had to go to the alternative school for two months this semester in Katy I.S.D., because I came to school throwed as ****. Should I not have another chance? I agree with you.

It's your RIGHT to get an education. That's the other chance that you deserve.

Ramonce Taylor does not have the right to play NFL football. If he is PRIVILEGED enough to be given another shot, that's one thing. But don't act like he's being denied something that he deserves. In the NFL, you get what you earn, period.

Sean Millington was a standout fullback for the BC Lions for a long time. Being Canadian, he went to (I believe) a Canadian University. When he went down south for a tryout (like it seems all above-average CFL players do) he was in camp with the 49ers for ONE DAY before they cut him. I don't feel bad for him. He got his one shot and he didn't do enough with it to warrant keeping him around. If Ramonce Taylor gets another shot, I hope he understands what a gift it is and does something with it instead of cr@pping it away.

That's my take on the romance.

Like I said, I could care less, but being devils advocate, maybe it was a friends and he was just trying to protect him. I don't know one way or the other, and really don't care. All I know is that I don't want him on the Texans.

"Throwed as **** -- interesting. In any event, 20-21 years old is a big difference to 15 yrs old and user quantity is a gigantic difference from major dealer quantity.

Are you his publicist? Uncle? concerned relative? Seriously man... I love to argue but there's a point at which you're just wrong. Somehow I think that if your defense is "He know what happens and he doesn't (i put the apostrophe in there for you) what ya'll think".... then you have long since passed the point at which you should consider taking up a new defendant. I would suggest lobbying for OJ or Pete Rose. "I know he's admitted to gambling on baseball, but he didn't, he knows what happened and he don't care what ya'll think"......

Good luck man.

Mike

Here's what C.O. Brocato (noted Titan/Oiler longtime scout) had to say about Ramonce Taylor at the UT Pro Day:

"When his agent shows up to explain that Taylor accidentally went to the wrong facility, Brocato lets him have it.

"We don't have time to fool around," he shouts. "If he's not here in a minute, we're outta here!"

When Taylor finally shows up, Brocato slaps him on the back and says, "You've got five minutes to get loose. What's the matter with you?"

Taylor, who appears out of shape, doesn't have a particularly strong workout. He struggles to keep his balance in the three-cone drill that Brocato invented and then almost vomits after "C.O.'s drill No. 3," which requires running backs to switch the ball from arm to arm while racing around cones.

"RO-mance," as Brocato keeps referring to him in his Cajun accent, has not helped himself today. "He is out of shape," Brocato says. "You would think with the problems he's had that he'd want to come out and blow people away."
As he passes Taylor's agent, Brocato says, "You gotta get Romance's ass in shape."

I agree with you. I am not sure what kind of player he'll turn out to be but his arrest was the only thing bad I had heard about him and since that time I haven't heard a thing about him punking out. I heard the circumstances regarding the dope. I have a hard time believing he would call himself out by calling the cops but stranger things have happened. Calling him another PacMan though is out of line. PacMan is a repeat punk offender who just "happens" to be around people that have guns, drugs and too much time on their hands on a consistent basis. He just didn't show up in shape.

I'll take Brocato's observation's as fact. I mean the man only invinted the 3 cone drill and the short shuttle, so I think he knows what he's talking about. Also showing up late isn't a good thing either.

I won't deny he has talent, you don't get called "Reggie Bush Lite" with out having a little something; but I'm afraid he is incapable of making smart desisions or surrounding himself with people who can make the correct descions for him. I don't mind him smoking pot, it hsould be noted that he's never failed a drug test; but like Williams and Clarrett he's been given a chance in the eyes of those who make these choices and so far none have taken that chance. It's gotta be for a reason.

Rick Smith said on 610 am yesterday evening that RT was not on the Texans list of targets. They have everyone they want but one player at it is not RT.
