I would have taken either Wendling or Gattis over Harrison, but admittedly I don't know much at all about Harrison, where I had seen a lot of footage on Gattis and Wendling. At this time last year, I wasn't too keen on Owen Daniels, and look how that turned out. Other than that pick, I really like what they have done in the draft given that they didn't have a 2nd rounder. We hit all of our biggest needs thru the first 6 rounds.
Okoye is the immediate impact starter. Jones will be the push Mathis at KR, and contribute at WR and probably will eventually start. Fred Bennett was a great pick in round 4. He is a big guy, and now we have 2 S. Caroline CB's! He will push hard for the #2 spot by next year, and play in the nickel/dime this year. Fry was a guy I had my eye on as a developmental tackle, due to his quick feet and athleticism, but it's iffy if he ever is a starter, but may be a good long term backup. The Safety Harrison, and the Texas guard in the last two picks I can't say a lot about as I am not familiar enough with them, but I do trust our staff, and hopefully they can at least add depth.
Coming out of the draft, I would say our biggest deficiency is still at FS. I think Wendling or Gattis would have made this a near perfect draft, but again, our scouts know more than me, so let's give Harrison a chance and see what he can do. If nothing else, he adds depth to the secondary, and maybe he can play ST as well, which would be a bonus.
If Mason Crosby dropped to round 7, I think I would take him. He has a cannon attached to his leg. Another interesting prospect is Ben Patrick, the Deleware TE. Let's see what they come up with in round 7, and then we can sign a couple of decent FA's that have a chance to stick.
I love what the Texans have done this offseason!
