Chester Pitts on SR 610 - Right Now !

Just said that it pisses him off when everything gets blamed on the O-Line. That's how it was the first 4 years. Said that any one of 11 guys can cause sacks.

And he didn't appreciate the ESPN spots a couple years ago when Carr
lined up behind an invisible OLine. Especially from people (ESPN) who know
nothing about football.

Chester is articulate and personable as usual. Hopefully we hear and see more of him this year. He is open and candid and has a good personality for this.

Agreed. I cannot hear his interview due to work blockage, but last year he had a very candid, informitive interview with John and Lance. He's a very smart guy, and is good behind the microphone.

Good to hear. Looks like they don't all just take it in stride and think some others are infallible. Glad there is a guy who speaks his mind and who can be an informative mouthpiece while being entertaining.

The lead into this was that they glossed that Carr is taking the blame for the troubles this offseason and Chester spoke up and said, yeah, NOW as in, 'yeah finally'. He said it was a frustrating 4 years when everyone blamed the line and Carr got no blame at all. You could tell that Carr isn't thought of too highly in the locker room when it comes to his play on the field.

I don't blame Chester. When your QB sacks himself half the time, and you have a poor blocking RB in DD/W combined with a majority of people who automatically equate sacks with the offensive line, my hackles would be up too.

Now we're talking some football - just when the hour ends. Dang !
Chester said when Kubiak came in, he promised to make the texans a winner,
and Pitts clearly wants that more than anyting else.
Said he enjoyed going up agaisnt Freeny more that the more pyhsical type ? I think he said that, then the show ended ? Said Henderson with the Jags is, physically, the toughest opponent for him.
Chester is really a sharp young man, with gobs of personality.

That is great!!I'm sure this won't register with some on here and this thread will be skipped.

Agreed. There has been too much said over 2 years that leads me to believe it is more than just a few.

His background story is awesome. I'll try to recap as I remember from the interview. There's a lot that I never heard.

He didn't play football in high school because he went to a math and science academy that didn't have a team.

He already had a daughter at age 18. He went to SD State and got a full-time job at Ralph's so he could get a union job and medical insurance for her.

Some of the football players (Salaam, Kyle Turley, Az Hakim) came in to pick up a keg for a party on a Friday night. He told them that he tried to walk on and got brushed off. He told them about how bad that he wanted to play and got a phone call the following week from the team.

The rest is history.

Of course Carr haters think it is all his fault and the line did everything perfect.

Nope, most just want the excuse "if we could get a better line" to stop.

I mean just last week there were people in threads denying that anyone called Carr out or that he was on the block. People had to post quotes. I just think people need to be smarter about what is going on with the team.

Actually it's the Carr myopians that have had 4 years of the Texans telling them that Carr was good despite the evidence on the field. Someone has to tell you your opinion and finally, you are at a crossroads when after 5 years you find out all that was spin....so you bash Andre Johnson, Chester Pitts and anyone else you can bash to match your flawed opinion that someone had to give you...cause if the opinion wasn't given to you, I don't know what you were watching on the field to form your heightened take on Carr. It sure wasn't the 2 TD passes the last ten games of the season.

Actually I am not a Carr supporter, I was just stirring the pot, because it seems that most cannot look at the entire team. I do not need anyone to tell me my opinion and can actually form one of my own without much trouble. Then again I will not say i am not full of it. (using the term "you" so I was not sure if you thought others made my opinion for me).

This past year even with all the injuries the line did show improvement, which is a shocker.

If your Oline is getting to a point where they don't like you......

It is time to move on. I really liked Carr too.

What will be interesting is to go back in older threads and see what was said about Pitts before. I remember some people had some not-so positive things to say about him... I wonder who has stayed consistent and who is crawfishing from what they said before..

you can substitute "you" with "them"...."you" was used as a blanket term for the myopians...not necessarily "you". :):joker:

I had heard the O-line problems back when I joined the board and 610 was saying they had heard the line had problems with Carrs leadership. Most swept it away as radio fodder but it has been a consistent theme for teammates past and present. I wouldn't be surprised if many supported Dunta in his decision to throw it out there. Sort of their mouthpiece.

I think Pitts has basically been recognized as the best OLinman the Texans
have had. I dunno, maybe that's faint praise to some, but it should mean something. And I don't recall any real criticsim of him here on this Board ?
He has been our most durable OLineman, maybe most durable of all players.
And clearly the best T we've had, along with being the best guard IMO.
Of courese Chester playing LT is a whole other subject.

sescoyote has ripped him for 5 years straight. Lots of people have dogged him over the years...I was one of the few to defend him for a couple of seasons early on.

sorry, that would require being objective and intelligent...something Carr homer isnt exactly noted for.....they believe the Pravda line and make excuses for their pathetic choir boy.

I love that Pitts said 'Now' when talking about the blame being shared. Carr is done and the players are totally happy about it. Carr sucks almost as much as his homers.

I've been critical of Pitts. I don't think he's a bad lineman but I believe he's been much more inconsistent than his reputation. I think Wand's play at LT in '04 was better than Pitts' in '03. Pitts seems to lose focus and commit foolish penalties too often. He also has lapses and gets beaten cold on occasion. I think he has the tools to be very good and sometimes plays quite well.

Regarding the general criticism of the OLine: In '02 it was awful!... It was bad during the second half of '04, and was awful in '05. Anyone that wants to dispute that is either ignorant or dishonest.

In '03 and the beginning of '04 I thought the line played fairly well. Last year, I thought the line struggled but had some good games.

The two areas of the team that have taken the most abuse are the Oline and the QB. I've generally been a Carr defender the past 3 years- not because I like him or I think he's very good. Simply put, I think that improved line play will equate to improved QB play regardless of the QB. Also, I think it's easier to upgrade olines that QBs. Therefore, I've been more intent on improving the line. QB is a difficult position to evaluate and it's development is dependent on a lot of moving parts. So, I've been wanting some of those parts to be improved. That has started under Smith/Kubiak and will undoubtedly continue.

Pitts is generally viewed as one of our best players around the league. To be honest, I think he could make the ProBowl once we get a real signal caller in here.

And to all the people lauding Carr for 'keeping his mouth shut' this offseason, WHAT ABOUT THE REST OF THE TEAM FOR THE PAST 5 YEARS?!?!?!?

they have kept their mouth shut about Carr's embarassing performances....so they finally stand up and demand to be heard and then are called 'bad teammates' by the loser Carr homers....

you are pathetic, unnamed Carr homers...except Hulk75, he is not a homer...just a good and loyal brother

I always liked Pitts and thought he was a success at LT as well as G.

And I still rip him, he's not that great. Ok, he talks real well on the mic. Whippeee, that doesn't mean squat on the field. Here's one for you, When David Carr was injured and Banks came in, guess what, Banks got hurt too. Keep trippin on your man love for an offensive lineman that has been there since day one as well.....and set sack records for a franchise. Oh, in one quarter of a game when it counted, Sage got sacked. Nice.

Chester threw Carr under the bus now! They are all speaking out now! :yahoo:

Hell, you could see it on the sidelines during the games. I've got games on tape and it's amazing to watch. If I knew how to do video, I'd put it on youtube. Hell, Carr didn't even look like he wanted to learn or listen on the sideline.

when it comes down to the blame game anybody is gonna get tired of always being the one blamed...and when they know what's really going on it's probably not helping matters at all in the locker-room...the texans as an organization have probably done a great job of keeping things in house as far as guys expressing their frustrations at one another through the media

I can see why Chester is frustrated. Some of the comments I hear about him from casual fans sounds like the person making the comment is stuck in a 2002 time warp.

At least Pitts kept his job with the Texans and made his big payday. They've gone through a lot of players on the offense while trying to "get better". Some of those players probably had something to offer if they had been developed - Gaffney and Wand for sure; maybe some tight ends.

Some careers have been sacrificed or at least hampered on the alter of "cover for Dave Carr".
