With Green's signing it's closer to it happening....

If AP is not available at #8 it is not the Texans fault so there is nothing to be sad about. If he is available that is a different story.

Maybe but they want to win and with everybody calling for Carrs head they may be trying to show that they are trying to win soon instead of wait three yrs.

I am curious I didn't watch any N.D. games

why is everyone sold on Quinn? big games he seemed to disappear

http://www.sportsline.com/collegefootball/players/playerpage/419111

below average against Michigan/USC/LSU
Michigan state was a good game along with army, navy, and some others

I am going stat wise mind you and I may be totally wrong

Part of that might just be self explanatory...playing against some of the top teams in the nation is going to hamper your stat production.

Personally...I don't know anything intelligent about Quinn. What I mean by that, is that all I hear are peoples opinions on this and that - and those opinions have changed dramatically in the last year or so.

Quinn doesnt play defense last time I checked. Check out all his career losses at Notre Dame. The Notre Dame defense surrenders 35+ points in almost every loss. Also most losses are against top college programs and aside from a few undeniable stinkers (this year's michigan game comes to mind) he played well in those losses.

He brings football intellect and the experience of leading a national treasure at QB. He knows about media/fan pressure/obligations and didn't play at some 2nd rate college program ala Fresno State.

Well, this is just one more opinion. I watched the Sugar Bowl game (ND vs. LSU) this year, and was completely unimpressed with Quinn. Russell, on the other hand, was incredible. It would be hard for someone to watch that game and seriously think that Quinn is close to the NFL prospect that Russell is.

I know that's a really small sample size, but that one game made me believe that Quinn should not be our answer at QB.

I'm an LSU fan, and even I'll admit that it wasn't that simple. Quinn had no offensive line whatsoever, was on the run the entire game and had receivers overmatched in speed by the LSU secondary. Russell, meanwhile, had an outstanding line that dominated the line of scrimmage and let him sit back without any pressure at all.

I'm not the biggest Quinn fan either, but the circumstances surrounding Quinn and Russell that game were entirely different.

Quinn reminds me of Moon...he tends to get rattled and never regrop. Plus, he plas awfl in bigger games. I have 2 QBs above him(Russel is a given) and Stanton is IMO better.

I would prefer Trent Edwards from Stanford over Stanton. I think you will see much more upside, if you take a look at him. He played for lousy teams like Jay Cutler did.

I wouldnt put it past us to make a move for Peterson still.

The FO said at the beggining of this offseason that they arent going to NOT fill holes, and hope that a player becomes available/healthy for us.

So they got Green..he fills a need. But hes in his 10 season.. and hes a running back. This is a temporary thing and everyone knows it. And if the FO felt that we needed a quality RB despite the fact that we had Taylor, Lundy, Gado, and (possibly) Dayne.. then I imagine they also feel that in a season or two we are gonna need someone to replace Green as the premier guy. Peterson could be him.

Look at New Orleans, Jacksonville, Dallas, New England.... last season all of them drafted running backs despite the fact that they had a starting RB that could be considered "good". And they benefited from it.

The Texans are going to trade out of the 8 pick. They will pick up a few extras and draft a lineman. Either Offense or defense which ever is best available twhen they pick.

I REALLY think that the Texans will grab Quinn in the draft now. As sad as it is, AP will not be wearing a Texans uni.

John Lopez is that you?

Why Quinn? Wolf got it right he hardly does well in big games. He is also a Car part deux. I say no way unless Kubiak can do wonders for the man.

Notre Dame is overrated. Who do you think would win if Quinn was at LSU and Russell was at Notre Dame? LSU easily because they have the overall better team.

If you watch Quinn clips, he moves well in the pocket. He throws on the run. He handles pass pressure well. Based on the clips I've seen anyway. He's not exactly Carr. They're just both handsome. Let's focus on their play.

Glad we've got Green. Assuming the Texans re-sign Dayne and Lundy continues to improve, they have the start of a good run offense. I think it will take all three, though, to keep the ball moving. I think they would still benefit from taking AP in the first, but taking Green is the Texans acknowledging that they are not trading up for him.

I coulnd not agree more! All of the fans who want to move up for AP will be very disappointed in the end, the Texans want and need more drafts picks not less. Levi Brown is not thought of higly enough to use the 8th pick at this point, if we stay at 8 it will probabaly be Landry. I will be shocked if Rick Smith does not find someone to take the 8th pick and trade for a few more picks. After the success of last years draft why wouldn't you want more picks?

Reminds you of Moon, like Warren Moon ? The Warren Moon who is now in the HOF @ Canton ? If it's that Warren Moon, is that really not a good thing ?
But I think so many guys down here in Texas want a Terry Bradshaw type who's kinda of a jerk in demeanor, who's not pretty, and like's Skoal or Redman and they seem to have an aversion to QBs who look like Carr or BQ.
Persoanlly, I'd definitely go for BQ over AD if the organization and specifically Kubiack really thinks the Golden Domer can be our franchise QB.
If they take BQ, just break him in gradually and give him at the very least a mediorce line to play behind before starting him.

A 4 yr. contract worth $6.5 mil. in garaunteed money. How does that work with the cap if he's cut by the team? Spread it over the 4 yrs or have to pay it when/if he's cut? I'm not so sure I like this move. IMO, it represents the infuence of Sherman and how he's going to get HIS guys in here. Are we going to be the South Denver Packers now?I've stated on here many times that I'm not crazy about Sherman being here. He has his own style, that differs greatly from Kubiaks, and is a former HC who knows how HE wants to run the O. I think the Texans would be better served if there was a D-guru in Shermans position.I would bet the house that there's a lot of underlying tension about whose philosophy the Texans will be running.

No sir, completey disagree.

We just put a band-aid on the running wound which frees us up to build our lines.

Still some uncertanties on DDub, Green will be good for at least 2 years. From what I hear next years draft is running back heavy and this year is Line and WR heavy.

Fill our needs this year with line and WR and don't reach on a RB.

Green will get us through this year. Next year we draft a RB to play behind Green.

I think this is a good move.

I knew I'd be disappointed the minute AP said he'd really like to play in Houston. The Texans just disapprove of draft stars that want to play for them...

As someone who lobbied hard for VY last year I'm again going to have to say the big game thing is really important. QB's are defined by the big games - love it or hate it. When you select a QB you are selecting a leader and a personality for your offense. You want a guy who steps up in pressure situations - big games and the fourth quarter. Anybody have numbers on Quinn's 4th quarter stats? I haven't seen them, but I would guess he's the type who's numbers dip at the end.

I agree somewhat b/c This will make the 2nd year that this organization passes on some pretty good RB prospects high in the draft which leads me to believe that they're not looking for RB's in the 1st - 2nd round period. They're trying to find those later round gems like Portis, TD & Johnson. If he adheres & believes in the Denver system at all, he's not looking for an RB high. That & they also probably feel that AD won't be there either.

I am not sure why most of ya'll on this board are still suprised when these coaches grab farmiliar players. This is a very common occurence in the NFL. The Tuna did it on every team he coached. Green is a quality player. He will likely give us 2 years and if he is cut his cap hit will likely be 3 mil or so. That is not a bad deal especially considering his total cap number in yr 3 will probably be around 7 mil or so. ( I am taking into consideration escelating contract and totally guessing on the #. It will likely be higher than that but little chance that it is lower.)

The cowboys didnt draft a rb last year. 2yrs ago

I'm not against signing Green. I think he will help us for a yr or 2. I wonder about the different styles Kubes and Sherman like to play. A player who fits 1 scheme doesn't necessarily fit the other. Maybe I'm reading too much into things and being a conspiracy theorist. Too many cooks ruin the soup, and I'm SURE there are some pretty tense moments between our young HC and the old, wise former HC. It will interesting to see how TC goes this year.

Correct me if I am wrong but from what I remember of Green is that he is a 1 cut and go guy so he should fit ok. But I do hope the Texans will just zone block all the time and quit messing around with the offense. And maybe you are rerading into it just a little too much:)

... I'm SURE there are some pretty tense moments between our young HC and the old, wise former HC.

I doubt it...

If you were the Head Coach, would you tolerate "tense moments" from your staff ? And if there were "tense moments" would you then promote that staff member ?

I'm pretty sure Sherman knows his role and doesn't over-step his boundaries...

Peterson was never going to fall to teh 8th pick, and Smith said that there would be no way the Texans would use draft picks in a trade...so therefore the chances of Peterson being a Texan were slim to none.

I'm as big an AD fan as the next guy, but Green will carry a limping running offense for a couple of years while we shore up the o-line and get things in place for a serious playoff contention.

I say hold off drafting a running back until the 08 draft.

Last year they tried to move back up into the 1st round for DeAngelo Williams but got out bid for the spot. If anything, the proof is there that they do value RB rather than categorically won't go for one early.

I hope they are just trying to feign interest in Quinn to up the value of the number 8 pick. We need a top OL prospect in the first, not a QB.

It's hard for me to believe that people are griping about possibly taking a QB with the tools Quinn has. Houston's going to take a player that slides in the draft...if Peterson's there for us, we'll take him. If Joe Thomas slides to us, we'll take him. Just because we signed a RB doesn't mean we can't draft another one if the pieces fall right.

I think Quinn will be gone by 8. It appears that Det is filling holes so that can draft QB of the future as they've covered RB, OT, DE and soon maybe WR also. This leaves them w/ opportunity to take franchise QB and groom behind Kitna.

A lot depends on what Raiders do and I think they could be players in the Carr sweepstakes. OAK's 3rd would be attractive, esp if we could get a contingency pick in '08 also. If OAK gets Carr then CJ or AP become #1 pick and Det has choice of QBs.
