Once Sage Rosenfels starts lighting it up after taking over for David Carr (as a few misguided individuals spend their nights hoping for), we will still need a defense to win games. Is anyone happy with our secondary? Did Peek just disappear or was he way overhyped? the DL is still in shambles, especially if TJ is the starter.

No doubt the D needs help. We need to try get to at least average this year. We need a FS badly. Someone with some coverage ability and range. We need a CB2 to help Dunta. Those two moves will dramtically help the secondary.

Up front, we need yet another pass rushing end, which seems to be a never ending quest. A tackle wouldn't be a bad idea either.

At LB, we aren't too far off, but an impact or at least solid Strong OLB LB would be nice, and more depth overall is needed at LB.

We only need to upgrade a cb, fs, ss, lb, dt, and de...whatchutalkingaboutwillis?

I never really thought Peek would thrive at DE when we announced that we are changing to a 3-4. I posted this before last year's draft.

Secondary, I am satisfied with 3 positions, our backup corners, and one starting corner, and Glenn Earl being our free safety (he should be moved to free as we bring in a ss). We do not have a true strong safety on our roster.

Peek I think should be tried out at that other linebacker position...he is a good football player, he just doesn't have a position. Maybe a pass rushing defensive end, but Babin does that a little better.

D line isn't in as bad as shape as people say. We have depth at the interior returning, Travis Johnson, Seth Payne, Maddox, Johnson. People write off TJ just because he wasn't a great nose tackle in the 3-4 defense. He can still be a good 4-3 d tackle, and he showed flashes of good play at the begining of the season before his injury. He just needs to have a good offseason and he could be part of a good d tackle tandem next season. If AP isn't available, I would love for us to bring in Alan Branch or Amobi Okoye. Weaver is a good run stopping d end and Babin is our pass rush specialist, and Mario Williams will be a top 5 d end this season (maybe not sack wise...but TFL, FF, and tackle wise yes).

Right now our strength is our linebacking corps. Greenwood is a solid starter who needs to work on maybe forcing some fumbles or is pass reads, but aside from that is a good player. Demeco Ryans flies to the ball and has made some big plays, hopefully he can make a few more to get his ticket to hawaii. As for the 3rd starter, Orr is a no...he can be depth and a special teams player and that is about it. Maybe our 3rd starter is in house? Wong is coming off an injury, and I think he had some good seasons as a texan... I still remember his lights out sack at reliant...what an awesome moment. I think our gem could be rufus alexander in the second however.

Our defense improved overall, but we lack one big play maker and a few role players, and some holes in the secondary. With those additions it will be scary with the foundations built on d rob, demeco, and mw.

I think you perception of what a SS and FS are supposed to be is backward.

You have the ss and fs backwards and linebackers are an absolute weakness on this team outside of Ryans imo.

I think another good CB and a strong pass rusher would do wonders for this D. Of course we'd still have a lot of holes to fill beyond that (SS, FS, DT, LB), but I think adding quality to these two positions would have the biggest impact.

And if TJ comes in fat and lazy again, I say ship him out. Dude is a paid professional, and he should treat his job with respect if he wants to keep it.

I thought Morlon actually made some plays. I think we are one LB away from having a good LB corp.

He wasn't all that...

As a weakside LB, you are pretty free to run to the ball and make plays without as much interference as there would be on the strong side...

Plus he had our best D-Lineman on his side defelcting attention away from him and he still didn't make a lot of plays.

I would agree with everything, except Glenn Earl as a free safety. Earl doesn't have the range or the coverage ability to play free safety. I'm not sure he has the range or the coverage ability to play strong safety, either. Earl is a heck of a hitter, once he has a guy lined up. Just not sure he is a part of the solution.

Finding a FS has been impossible for this team. Matt Stevens, Marlon McCree, Marcus Coleman, C.C. Brown. Coleman looked liked the answer for about 3 or 4 games, then the league realized he didn't want to tackle. Have the Texans ever drafted a player with the intent to put him at FS (I think Brown was drafted as a SS)? That has to change.

The next biggest issue would be to determine where to play Mario and Weaver. Can Weaver play as an everydown DT? Is Williams the answer as a RDE? Their two best d-linemen are both LDEs. Someone has to play out of position. If it's Mario, then the Texans need to find another DT (preferably one with some pass rush capabilities). If it's Weaver that's forced inside, the Texans need an everydown RDE.

Oh yeah, the Texans could certainly use a big corner to play the left side, and keep Dunta on the right or playing the slot. And a couple of OLBs whose feet don't seem to be stuck in concrete. There's always the '08 draft...

That's why the Ravens let him go when he was up....he's really a tweener on the line and has no real position. He's not big and beefy enough inside and he isn't much of a pass rusher at de

Kubiak has already been on the record about the lack of a true pass rushing entity for our defense. That is still our most pressing need on D.
He needs to check the mirror for one reason we don't have a player to meet
that need, maybe his sidekick RS can figure something out for this Fall ?

Last year before the season started, Kubiak said that the secondary was a strength of the team. Many an eyebrow was raised. I suppose that was before seeing PBuch in action but still, a strength????.

After the season, he calls out the pass rush, but at the same time, he doesn't mention anything about the secondary.

I am guessing part of the reason why he said nothing ugly about the secondary after last season is: a. it would be like kicking a puppy; b. some of the ugliest things that we saw from the secondary were products of coaching calls.

I am hoping his silence relating to the secondary is not a reflection of satisfaction with it.

All true TC, but what's most outstanding to me is we've got a former QB and NFL coach who's experience has been all or nearly all about offense analizing his teams defense. Should that give us pause ?
His top FA pick was a DE and his top draft pick was a DE, and he couldn't take care of the pass rushing need between them.

The Texans made a lot of pretty good moves, but they also had a lot of bone-headed ones too...

hmmmm...good point. :hmmm:

Going into the the 2006 season, I thought our d-line was going to be a rock solid anchor for the entire defense. Unfortunately, reality has a way of dashing optimistic hopes.

Mario & Meco & dunta. everyone else can be upgraded, which is why i want us to go defense again in this draft,................. unless Adr...:cry2:... never mind.

What D-lineman are you reffering to? Mario was mostly on the other side, so unless you rate Jason Babin very highly, you have me confused.
