Quinn falling to 8?

I saw on an insider article on espn that brady quinn may fall to the number 8 spot, which is currently help by our Texans. Thoughts whether we'd take him or any other input. Sorry if its already been posted.

yea its already been posted, its cool thoug, look back a couple days ago and you should find all the responses on what you are asking.

I don't know what I will do if they draft Quinn, I guess just lose all hope and expectations when it comes to paying my season tickets. Paying for my tickets would feel like like flushing a toilet or giving some money to homeless person on Sunset.

Quinn seems to be Carr Redux...

quinn is completely overrated. no quinn...please. a.peterson will not be available at 8. the texans should go with kiper's prognistication of the ot out of penn st. no matter what qb the texans have back there, a stout line is a necessity (did i spell that right?).

if Quinn falls to #8, it should improve our chances of trading down and picking up more draft picks.

To be honest I really don't know what to think about Quinn. His last public appearance was the Sugar Bowl and that is what everyone seems to be judging him by. In retrospect his OLine was only adequate, if that. He had good receivers and RB but a OLine can bring them down as well. With an adequate Oline and suspect defense they played well against lesser opponents and poorly against top teams. Quinn is probably not as bad a some want to make him out to be. All things being equal the team with the better personel in the trenches will usually win. The Big Uglies that Willingham recruited were not as Big and Ugly as the Top BCS teams.

All the more reason to not draft Quinn. Your analysis makes the same excuses Carr has had for the past 5 years, which is why the Texans shouldn't draft him.

If the Texans don't have the personnel for Carr to succeed, then how would they have the personnel for Quinn to succeed?

Bottom line though, the QB on any team has to bring more to the table than in other player on offense.

Come on Bill... is that just because his a former ND Qb... or just that overhyped in your eyes ?

I would go with the latter more than the former. Afterall, ND has Montana to brag about ('nuff said) and while I hate this guy you have to give him some props (as a player - not analyst) and thats Joe Theeeeeeeeeeeesman also.

I can't see the Browns passing on him. They need a QB and he is a local guy who is saying that he wants to play for them.

That sounds familiar.

I realize that the Browns have been saying how much they want JaMarcus Russell and Adrian Peterson, but what is the point of saying who you really want if you aren't picking #1? If they go out and say how much they want to draft Quinn, another team will trade with the Lions to make sure that they can get him.

In away I hope Quinn does fall to 8 as it opens the door to some real trade possibilities. Carolina for one, looking to find the heir apparent to Delhomme. Apparently many Panther fans are ready to move on. Their #14 and #45 look very entertaining. That would give the Texans 3 picks in the top 50.

To me, us taking Quinn would mean we had reached the worst case scenario.

Adrian Peterson, Joe Thomas, and Levi Brown would be gone, and there would be no other slot we needed to fill thats worth that pick.

On the other side, it would have the upside of having a "QB of the Future" to learn under Carr for a few years.

Like I said its worst case scenario, I'd rather trade the pick than get Brady Quinn.

If Brady Quinn is available at the no.8 spot, which is certainly possible, then the Texans should look to trade that pick. Unless a guy like A.D. or Joe Thomas, or Gaines Adams is available I think the Texans should move down a few spots because there will be teams that will call the Texans for Brady Quinn. And if the Texans do move down a few slots they should look at Levi Brown, Reggie Nelson, Darell Revis, and LaRon Landry. Maybe even Marshawn Lynch could be an option at that spot.

I see where you are comming from and I agree, who ever he grooms under Carr/Plummer/Sage... Just make him sit the bench for itleast 2yrs

It's funny. People had him as the #1 overall QB LAST YEAR if he had come out as a junior. He probably would have been drafted before Young AND Leinert.

At the beginning of this college season he was touted as the best college player and #1 pick in the NFL draft all year.

Then the guy has ONE bad game in the bowl game and all of a sudden he's the next Rick Mirer? Come on now, he's been great in a PRO style offense under a solid NFL coach in Charlie Weis.

Junior year: 65% completion, 3,919 yards, 32 TDs, 7 INTs
Senior year: 62% completion, 3,426 yards, 37 TDs, 7 INTs

I think it's all BS and when it's all said and done probably a top 3 pick.

However, if he does fall to us at #8 and Peterson, Branch, and Thomas are off the board, I would not have a problem drafting him as our QB of the future. Meaning he doesn't take a single snap this year (leaving that to Rosenfels or Plummer) and takes over next year.

And I'm willing to bet he'll wind up being a MUCH better pro than JaMarcus Russell...

I disagree.

Bud Adams was going to take VY no matter what.

Leinart would have been drafted before him.

He probably would have gone before Cutler, but that's not a given either.

Well that was a unique circumstance. Bud Adams wanted Young to stick it to the Texans more than anything...

Ranking wise across the league probably would have been Quinn, Leinert, Cutler, Young. Maybe a few teams opting for Leinert b/c he was a Senior and had that additional year of experience.

I don't get the equations of Brady Quinn = David Carr 2.0 really.

I think Brady Quinn has been overhyped at ND and people are kind of sick of that. If you get past the hype the kid is going to be a SOLID QB. I thought Carson Palmer was overhyped and not worth the Bengals pick. I let my disdain for USC blind me to the fact the kid was a great prospect. I think Brady will be in a similar mold.

All that said. If Quinn is there i would rather us trade the spot a few back and still target Levi Brown or Landry. I'll take the solid all around senior over Nelson thanks. I would be intrigued however if Russell fell into our laps at the 8 spot.

My ideal first two picks though not flashy and eye popping. Levi Brown in the first and Kalil in the second. The Jet's did the exact same thing except that they were both first rounders. All iam goingto say is that line is taken care of for at least 6 years or so with Ferguson and Mangold. Don't really care who is back at the QB spot or if AD is avilable. Might not bea flashy top draft but i GUARANTEE if those two are drafted barring injury. Our offense will make lightyears improvment in the offseason.

You know I don't have a lot of knowledge of this kid and most on here don't either. But, I will tell you that I watched him in three games this yr.
1. Against a no name and he had a fair game.
2. Against Michigan - Not impressed at all
3. In the Bowl game - Very unimpressed.
In key games, he was unable to compete and the other QB's got the job done.

The kid could be a great pro and only time will tell. Have you compared his numbers to Carr's? Probably similar, as alot of qb's in the past. I just don't have good feeling about the kid. I totally thought he was overrated after the Michigan game and it was confirmed after the bowl game. JMO

If the Texans draft Quinn, I will scream and hope for the best.

I don't think basing how a guy is going to project to the NFL on three games is really that fair. IMO ND while Ty Willingham got some great prospects, stand up class guys that helped improve the Irish image, and was a class act himself. They lacked overral team speed and it showed against Mich, LSU and USC. I thought Brady did an admirable job with less then complete top notch talent outside at times....but he did have a solid line and a good running game.

And I'm willing to bet he'll wind up being a MUCH better pro than JaMarcus Russell...

I'm inclined to agree with you here. Having watched Russell play, I know that the guy has a heck of an arm. He can throw it a mile, but rarely very accurately. At 270 lbs. he's not very mobile. He was lucky to have a great crew of recievers at LSU, which isn't guaranteed in the pro's. Quinn had one guy to throw to this year, last year he had 3. But he still got it into the endzone more this year. I don't like Quinn, or really Russell, but I'll take Quinn over Russell anyday.

Here's my case for being open to Quinn at 8....

Joe Thomas will be gone.
Adrian Peterson will be gone.
We don't need another 1st round D-Lineman.
I think drafting a DB at 8 would be reaching.
Marshawn Lynch would also be a reach.
Not sold on Levi Brown yet. I'd rather take the BPA than draft for need.

Quinn's already played in a pro-style offense. He's also used to playing under scrutiny. I think that he could get up to speed pretty quick.

I think that his biggest problem this season was that he was playing on a mediocre team that was getting marquee matchups and got punked almost every time.

I remember hearing Rick Smith say in an interview that he'll be drafting BPA as opposed to reaching for need. If it's Brady Quinn, I trust him. While I'm not exactly on the "Draft Quinn" bandwagon, I wouldn't be heartbroken.

I'm not the biggest of Quinn fans (and hope we don't draft him) but he is very athletic and mobile. He might not be Vince Young or Michael Vick, but he did have a 60 yard run against USC this year, and not many players let alone QB's can say that this year.

How is Marshawn Lynch a reach at 8? He is the prototypical size for a NFL running back, is most likely going to have sub 4.4 speed, has good power, and great hands.
