Brian Brohm and JaMarcus Russell

Bubbajwp

All Flopper
If either one of them enters the draft. We need to draft him and let him sit for a year.

Who do you guys think is better.

Depends on the situation. FA will determine alot of things, and QB is a way we could go R1. Personally, I value Brohm as the better QB, but Russell may fit better because of his size and is alittle bit more mobile (not by much). No matter who is QB next season, WE NEED O LINE HELP! Not sure if Carr is QB or one of these guys, but either way we need to make sure that if we do draft a QB, that they dont have to go thru what Carr did.

Id go with JaMarcus Russell Im not really familiar with Brohm... anyways I just think that JarMarcus would be exactly what the Texans need. As for the OL... I think they have improved, and are going to get better. Its the QB who is the problem... of course thats my opinion... I know everyone saw what Vince Young did... honestly I was glad it happened a good way for him to show Houston how much they screwed up.

Russell is one of my early favorites for us to take. That isn't my opinion about what we do, but I'd try to find a way move on him like Denver did with Cutler if I was making the draft plans. He is a heck of a prospect.

I don't think Russell is a first round prospect. He has tons of potential, but still makes a lot of stupid mistakes (like Culpepper).

I also have doubts that Brohm will come out this year. If he comes out he will be a mid to late 1st round pick, if he stays he could be the top pick next year.

I don't think the Texans will draft a QB in the first or second round. They will take either Joe Thomas or Adrian Peterson with their top 5-7 pick. If they trade down it will be for Marshawn Lynch.

wasn't this what you said about Young early on too? Didn't we exchange a bunch of posts on it? I've seen him play quite a bit and he has incredible talent....he is every bit the prospect that Leftwich, Rothlisburger, Leinart and Cutler have been....I'm betting I see him taken right in the same area (top half of the first round).

Im on the JaMarcus wagon myself. I dont want to make the same mistake twice. I think Kubiak could do wonders with a prospect like Russell.

Being in Louisiana, I have watched my fair share of LSU games. He has tons of potential, but still makes a lot of dumb mistakes that he won't get away with in the NFL.

I do have to say that he does have one of the strongest arms that I have ever seen.

I would love to see us draft him, but not in the first round. I still think he will stay another year and try to win a national championship with LSU (unless he has a Vince-like game in the Sugar Bowl).

The one we get in the trade down.

That would be the right one. I like Russell, but not sure he is a early 1st round talent. Late 1st, early second, then pick him. Probaly will need at least a year behind a vet to sit and learn. (please don't throw a rookie behind this line unless it comes up substantially) The question then would be......what vet. Dump Carr and we take a fairly hefty cap hit, keep him and I doubt we show much improvement and do we want a rookie learning from him? Plummer will probably be available, but that probably wont be cheap especially when adding in the Carr hit and would he really help? I think Jake might be some help, but what would the cost be. Could Roesethal hold the line for a year? Might not be a bad thought if the understanding is he is just keeping the seat warm for the kid to get ready. Might be good enough to get us to 8-8 if we improve as much talent wise as a team as we did this year.

Just kind of throwing thoughts out.

culpepper was the 11th pick in the draft. and russell most certainly is a first round prospect. will most likely wind up going top 10.

I think he will end up grading too high to stay. His coaches say he has a good grasp on the game...good enough to coach if he wanted. I think his "dumb mistakes" have mostly come in bunches and he makes enough plays to overcome his 3 INT games and such. He is a bit of a project...but the talent is there in spades. He is a physical freak.

I wouldnt take him with a top 10 pick fo sho.

I am not a big Russell fan. Maybe the bowl game will change my mind.

Holy crap. I agree with everything you just said.

I would rate Brohm, Russell, Quinn not to mention VY, Leinart & Cutler all higher than Carr & the Texans picked him 1st overall :shades:

I don't like JaMarcus Russell. I think he fumbles too much, which makes him too much like Carr. Plus, he's looked lost in some big games, like against Auburn.

I am really high on Brohm though, and have been for a while now. I don't think he's gotten enough experience at the college level though, especially since he was injured for a good portion of this year. I'd like for him to go back for his senior year and get some more polish. When he comes out for the 2008 draft, he'll be a stud.

one of the things thats bothered me about David from day one is his set position in the pocket, he does not stand tall and throws from a croutched positon with excessive leg bend. both Brohm & Russell stand tall, see down the field & have strong arms without the excessive leg bend which does make for a significant difference in flight pattern of the ball starting with launch angle @ from the line of scrimmage. David simply gets too many balls tipped or batted down causing turnovers.

JaMarcus Russell is a freaking beast. I've seen him listed as 6ft. 6 260. He has a cannon arm-one of the best I've seen. He also has lead some great fourth quarter comebacks. The notion that he looks 'lost' I think is misleading but I do think he'd benefit from another year in school. I would not be sad if we picked him in the 1st though. I think his physical attributes will have him shoot up draft boards after the combine.

I'm just ready for that Sugar Bowl to come around. We'll see the first two QB picks this year go at each other. Should be fun.

And, he is a pass first guy that can run and seems accurate when he chucks it. A year or 2 under Kubes and he might be special. Always a toss of the dice though.

I dont like scrambling quarterbacks that much. I like quarterbacks that are great throwers, that can read the game, analyze the D, stuff like that. And I think Brohm is a better thrower.

Biggest questions mark with Brohm is his arm strength. Jamarcus Russel is the way to go after trading down a few spots. Texans won't be in position to draft Quinn, Johnson, Thomas unless AZ, Oakland, Detroit, and Tampa wins few more games and we loose our next two games and finish the season 4-12.

Worst case scenerio with out trade down ---- All Day, which is also not bad to consolation prize to have.
