Why don't we put David in the Shotgun??

Got issues with QB protection?? Stick him in the gun. Backs him off the OLine a little bit.... puts more space between him and the defenders(the guys that sack your QB).... Gives him more time to read & react....


It's not the end-all, be-all to qB protection, but it helps. Why don't we stick David in the gun?? :spy:
 
I was thinking of the same thing thruout the game, I'm sure Carr could probably throw more than -5 yards: PATHETIC!!!!!:brickwall :shoot: :crying: I'm glad the Texans won!

A large % of which take place when he gets drilled from the back side. Shotgun would give him a wider field of vision,less chance of batted balls. When do our coordinators design schemes that make sense though.

The only time the QB can fumble, and not be considered his fault, is when he is throwing the ball, and it gets stripped. Every other time, the QB should hold onto the ball.

We expect runningbacks & WRs to hold onto the ball regardless how/when he gets hit.

I called up and asked Kubes that on his radio show. He said he doesn't like the shotgun, and neither does Carr. And they don't like it for the very same reason. Taking the snap from center never forces you to take your eyes off the defense, while the shotgun forces you to, for a spit second, take your eyes off the defense to concentrate on receiving the snap from center, then having to reestablish the picture of the defense.

The time it takes to concentrate on the snap from center is a negative that overides any advantage that shotgun formation would provide.

And last, but not least, you're not able to dink and dunk from the shotgun. You must go verticle from that formation. And you need a decent offensive line to do that.

I take it you have never seen Tom Brady dink away from the gun? Putting your QB back also changes the rush angle of the ends...if you can change up their angles from time to time I think it would help...but some QB's can handle the shotgun and some guys can't work out of it.

And a QB does not hold the ball the same way a RB or WR does when they're running. Let's keep it real dude. There's enough stupidity on this board without comments like that.
 
If anyone remembers us against the Vickings 2 years ago, we were down by a whole lot and Carr brought us back into the game by gunning the ball out of the shotgun. His best game ever IMO. And you know what? I've never seen him take another snap out of the shotgun formation since!!! WTF!

If Kubiak is willing to put Carr in an empty set, than he should at least be put in the shotgun. He gets passes batted down all the time, and our Oline always gets pushed straight backward after the snap. In the shotgun, he can at least look around and find a better throwing lane. Kubiak said Carr's strength is under center though... :rolleyes: Right now, I don't know what Carr's "strengths" are.

At this point I am not unconvinced that putting him in the shotgun formation would just make the sack cost us more yardage.
 
Interesting idea really not aware of how many times this happens. Worth a try at least mix it up with the condition of the OL and RB. Waht really dawned on me out of curiosity now is how dominant it the shotgun in all the teams. I wonder how many incorporate it and how often. I know the Boys do it alot and some other teams but statistically how many of all the teams and QB's.
 
Bottom line, Carr does not like the shot gun. He can't read a defense, so why is that split second he concentrates on getting the snap a big deal for Kubiak? If Carr decides tomorrow to try the shot gun, that's what we'll do--whatever Kubiak can do for David.
 
Carr was in the gun at Fresno State.

He NEEDS to be in the gun.

The time you take to catch the ball out of the shotgun is less than .4 seconds. In addition, the quarterback takes a three step drop from there to time up the routes. Most successful throwing teams throw from the gun without any problem. As another poster mentioned Brady. Warren Moon and Cod Carlson both threw out of the gun. Colleges throw out of the gun like crazy and actually see more exotic coverages to read than the pros see. Plus, what kind of a read do you need to get when AJ is running a friggin' fade? :brickwall
