I would like to hear some thoughts about this kid. I have always had the opinion that he was over-hyped because he has that Reggie Bush home run potential.
He doesnt seem to have very good hands for a top tier WR and he doesnt run very good routes. I think if he could transition to CB he would be a monster with his speed, but he obviously doesnt like contact. He is one of those guys that runs out of bounds a yard short of the first down to avoid getting hit

I think he is a little bit better version of Jerome Mathis...

He looks really really fast. I've heard ESPN say he is the fastest college football player in the nation. I dont know how they judge that, but it could play into his potential. Mel Kiper said at one point that he could be the first WR drafted.

I didn't hear that but if someone drafts him over Calvin Johnson....

Id be really....really....really.....really.................really.....shocked

Yeah you know you are the real deal when you dont even get the ball and scouts are still drooling

Like Troy, we (OSU fans) have watched him grow. He has learned how to catch balls, run North and South, and ESPECIALLY run routes. Watch some OSU games from 2004, you'll see what I mean.

Or watch the Alamo Bowl against OSU, when Troy was suspended and Zwick was hurt, Ginn played QB for a few plays!

He's a Hell of an athlete, and gets a little more refined each year. Not sure where he's best suited in the NFL.

If nothign else, for OSU he draws double teams and leave Gonzales open!

First of all, I will state that OSU will lose to Michigan at home.

Secondly, I will state that Ginn is a overhyped Mathis. He does the same thing, but since hes on OSU, gets more props.

Ginn is a nice prospect, and a better receiver than Mathis, but what is that really saying? Ginn goes bottom 1/2 of round 1.

I hope some sucker GM takes Ginn and leaves good players on the board...More for us....

Ginn is not a bad pick...he is actually a very good wide receiver. He runs his routes nicely and has the agility to give good fakes. Why do you think he gets so open at times? He is a much better route runner than Mathis and has better hands.

the only reason he gets open is because he is so fast. I have not been impressed by his route running

He will be. I will not be surprised when he is in the top 5 overall either....

Calvin who? :tease:

I'd say he was about as agile as anyone in the NCAA.

He is more good with head fakes and moves at this point. His route running is improving. The guy is alot like a Santana Moss or a Coles.

head fakes dont work in the NFL unless Phillip Buchanon is covering you

IMO even the best NFL bound WRs from the NCAA have limited route running abilities.... it is something that can be worked on in the NFL. As for raw speed.... you can't TEACH that. Same with agility. To me Ginn has everything he needs.

I believe the same thing about Mathis. I wish he would get healthy....

Now i know you don't know what agility is....

If you think Mathis has good agility you are sadly mistaken...

Agility is measured by the 3-cone drill...so we will see how Ted Ginn does in this drill....if he runs it...my guess is that he would place in the top 5 of the combine.

I don't need a 3 cone drill to tell whether someone has agility or not....

you can watch the game and see how a player cuts, and jukes....

From what i've seen out of Ginn he is just like Jerome Mathis....They can run straight ahead really fast, but when it comes making a move they aren't really all that good...Ginn is probably a little better than Mathis at that but that is the reason Mathis can return kicks well, but isn't that good at punt returns...

Oh ya of course, I agree with you, you dont NEEd a 3 cone drill. But it helps in determining how one players agility is compared to a group of agile guys or maybe even one other guy.

Ginn seems to have plenty of "making a move" at high speeds. (agility). Take a look at this: http://youtube.com/watch?v=WGyrgqOKZLg. I think you may have this idea because of how fast he moves. His agility is very fluid....he doesn't jolt and jerk one way, much like Reggie Bush did, he changes direction very fluidly.

He may not have the most agility out of anyone in the NCAA, but he has enough of it to say he is agile.

I saw a lot of speed and sub-par opponents....

But like I thought, most of it was speed...

I played against Mathis in college, and from that highlight tape IMO, they looked pretty similar granted JM was going against D1-AA opponents, but none the less they looked the same to me at that stage in their career...

In the whole highlight I saw maybe 2 or 3 good Quick, agile moves...

That tape only reaffirmed my belief that he is little better than JM...

I dunno, I see him making fluid changes in direction when moving very fast. That constitutes as agility to me. He is just very fluid.

You may be right though, his agility may not match up well with NFL defenders, but at this point I would say that it(his agility) does.

Most of that highlight he was in the open field or out in space, so it's hard to tell....

I'm not saying that I don't think he's going to be good because of his agility...WR's don't need as much agility as RB's do because they are in space most of the time...

I don't think he'll be all that because of other reasons...

I don't think his game translates good to the NFL...He relies on being in open space, and using his speed....If you go back and look at the highlight tape you will see he didn't make many people miss...He out ran a lot of people....He got out of some arm tackles....But I didn't really see much of him making people miss....

Again Im not saying that because he doesn't have world class agility he's going to fail....I think agility is more important for RB's...

You are countering your own argument here. So on one hand.... Ted Ginn and Mathis don't have "agility", yet WRs don't need "agility". Hmmm....

I always check the age of the poster before I respond to comments like this but...

Im not countering anything...If you hadn't jumped into the conversation unknowing of where it originated from maybe you'd understand...But I'll explain it for you anyway...

Earlier there was a comment about how much agility Ginn had...and I disputed it...nothing more nothing less...I never said he needed agility...I just disputed the fact that he had a lot of it...

Well if you are done being an *** I will go ahead and say that age doesn't matter when someone is countering their own argument, it speaks for itself. It lost steam when you downplayed agility.

P.S. - You are three years older than me. What do you think that means? Absolutely nothing. Both of us are considered children to the "elders" on this forum who play the age card.

You don't even know what I meant when I made that comment do you??

If you had been 16 or something like that I wouldn't have responded...

But I decided you were a big boy so.....here we are......

It was completely asinine for you to even mention age. Keep it to yourself.

I'll explain it one last time for you...

simplified:

I don't think Ginn has a lot of agility....I don't think that WR's need a lot of agility....

I think RB's need more agility than WR's

Ginn not having a lot of agility is not what is going to keep him from being dominant in the NFL....

Thanks for reiterating your thesis. I think we have all learned something today.

Someone please..... :locked:

truroyalty...where do u think he will be drafted (say he comes out this year). I am hoping he will eat a pick before we select...because I dont think we should take him in the first if we can.

Us??? Take Ginn???? lol....I don't think there's a chance in he!! we take him unless he falls...free falls....base jumps.....

I think he will go in the 1st but I don't have any idea where....And I hope someone takes him before us too........more players for us to choose from.....

Well you could be right. All I know is his production has fluctuated with Smith's Accuracy. I don't believe he's another Steve Smith. I do believe that he's elevated his game to the point that he deserves to go in the first. But...unlike Ernie Givens, this guy doesn't make his living running crossing routes. Is the fly and the dig all this guy has got in his arsonal ? Untill I see that from him, crossing routes over the middle, he carries a red flag for me. Speed is good. Tough is better. The smurf from New York, Wayne Chrebet, wasn't fast, but he was tough with hands like a vacuum cleaner. We'll see which side of the Chrebet scale Ginn Jr. falls. Just think the Texans have bigger fish to fry than to fall in love with a speed skill guy. Just as soon they take mighty Mouse from Northern Illinois in the latter rounds to scatch that itch. . Get the same thing for a lot less money. Speedy slot guy not tough enough, or too small, to run crossing routes with out getting killed.
