Wali Lundy is not the answer

Koolaid Time

Drink Up!
Its very sad the DD is no longer in the team's future...

But Wali Lundy et al is not the answer. You just can't plug in "Joe Blow Runningback" and expect respect from any NFL Defense.

The Front Office should have known of the severity of DD's injury and planned accordingly with the Draft...

And that even means they should have drafted that low-life Reggie Bush

I think most of us realized that Wali Lundy is not DD a few weeks ago. That's why he fell to third in the depth chart behind Dayne and Gado.

Although, it would help if our line could run-block worth a damn.

Thank you for jinxing him by saying he couldnt. He probably checked the boards at halftime, and felt the need to prove you wrong. 16 carries for 79 yards and a TD is just what we've needed.

You need to do this again next weekend Koolaid Time. I'm serious, you should cut and paste that exact same text into another thread with the exact same name.

Lundy had a good game. But let's face it, he's not, and probably never will be, an 1100+ yd back like DD. We still need to look at options for RB.

Well, when I first made the post, Wali wasn't doing a very good job. It was 6 yards on 5 carries.

Of course when they bring in Dayne and Gado, and start them ahead of you, it doesnt give you much confidence.

I hope the kid starts next week.

I'll cut and paste the thread.. You supply the name. My wife will fill it in.

I'll be at the "tacky" Titans high school football stadium in Nashville watching K.S. "Bud" Adams rip off that godawful rug on his head.:whip:

I just don't think he has the power or the potential. I hope he proves me wrong. By all means prove me wrong, that was the best display in our running game in a long time.

Lundy had a good game, but I don't see him being the long term answer either. In time I think he may be a good back to have as a backup, but I don't see him being a consistent starter in the league.

I still don't have a whole lot of faith in Lundy for the long haul either (as a real STARTER, I mean), but I'd sure use permanent ink on his name as the starter for next week. I think Battle Red Day makes a huge difference to the whole team.

Shut up all you negative nellys. Only a complete masochist would find fault in a win like todays.

We won, EVERYONE played well, find some hope! :)

I didn't think Lundy was the answer either until I saw him throw that juke on his second big run. I am still skeptical but I would like to see him start for the rest of the season and see what he can do. I am still open to the idea of featuring hi for a few years if he can average 90 yds a game for us.

I think Wali could be the answer. I mean, he helped the Texans have their first big rushing game against a very good Jaguars defense that ranks in the top 10 in rushing yds/g allowed. His stats weren't overly impressive, but for a rookie, I'll take 93 yards and a touchdown any sunday.

Im not sure about drafting BUSH, Lundy DOES have more RUSHING TDs than him lol!

I did like Maroney but he went in the first, and I would not change our draft after the 1st round. I was in favor of D Brick over MW, but MW looks to be improving so I wont get all flustered.

Lundy opened badly against a very good, very fast Philly defense. He was indecisive in making his cuts and did a poor job picking up the blitz and he got pwned. Ditto for his performance against the faster Colts D, though I admit I was a little surprised to see the coaches give up on him so quickly.

I for one was glad to see him back today (face it, anybody's better than Ron Dayne), and I think he had a good showing. He looked much more decisive today, and while he'll never burn anyone to the house, he has a very sufficient combination of speed and quick feet. He reminds me of Dom Davis, just less strong and less polished a runner.

Congrats to Lundy for turning in a big game and opening up the running half of our playbook once again. Crazy thing is, I thought Gado had a pretty good showing to open as well ... glad to see these two in good action against a good Jacksonville defense.

No matter what anyone thinks of our current running backs. STOP throwing out Reggie Bush's name. He hasn't proven to be an NFL running back either. His running yards have been poor.

Now if you want to say Wali Lundy isn't the answer for coming out of the backfield and catching passes, especially on 3rd down, plus returning punts then your Reggie Bush argument makes more sense.

Anyone else notice the nasty stiffarm that Lundy put on #95? He lost yards on the run but he looked pretty strong on that play.

7 yards shy of 100 yards...... 7 frick'n yards.... I damn near blew up when I saw David kneal...... I was screaming, "7 frick'n yards"

I didn't like it either but it was the smart thing to do. The last thing we need is someone getting hurt for 7 irrelevant yards.

I thought Lundy did well today, that's all we ever needed, someone to hit the holes fast & go north south. Dayne was too slow & no juke once he got to the 2nd level at all. You even noticed a difference when Gado got the ball.

This should be the combo from now on. Lundy did well today, he just needs to see the cutbacks a little better & he could be solid for us. :twocents:

I thought both Gado and Wali did really well today. Gado only averaged about 3 a carry, but he got the all importnat 2 yards on 3rd and 1, the ones we wern't getting last week. Overall, by far our best and most complete offensive performace, no surprise the offense clics when we finally get some rushing yards.

who say's you can't, who say's he's not, and who say's they did'nt, he has more rushing TD's than Reggie" I'm the next coming of Christ" Bush.

Wali Lundy:
150 yards(rushing)
36 carries
4.16 YPC
1 Rushing TDs

Reggie Bush
196 yards(rushing)
3.01 YPC
0 Rushing TDs

and yea, Lundy's played half the games that Bush has.

I'd argue that our problem may have been that our RBs are getting to the line too fast, not allowing the ZB to open the wholes we are expecting to hit.

Either way, Lundy did something today, that even though I hate to admit, neither Gado or Dayne has been able to do. 10:34 remaining in the 4th Qtr, they run the ZB stretch play to the right..... Lundy gets the ball, heads right, but cuts it back to the left....... That cut back lane has not always been there, but when it has, Gado & Dayne have been to far into the line, to make the cut.

Lundy did very well today.

I think something is being overlooked... Looked to me like the O-Line was doing a better job today too. They probably are getting a little more used to each other.

Looking at today vs. last week, it's amazing how different things get when the running game gets some R-E-S-P-E-C-T! :redtowel:

Okay, now you're really tripping. You really think that Dayne was hitting the holes to fast or not giving them time to develop? Man, just admit it. Dayne wasn't our best option and he shouldn't be on the team after a few weeks, much less the season.

Lundy & Gado pretty much got the same thing we did against Indy, Washington, and Philly. 5 yards, 10 yards....... we were just able to do more of it.

he had one big run up the middle, which Gado was also able to rip off a 27 yard run up the middle as well.

But we have been more successfull, with pitches to the outside, both Gado, & Dayne did well with those..... they never got a 30 yard run off of them, but they never had that much room to run once they got past the OL either.

Last year in Green Bay when Gado had his break out game the pack intercepted and ran it back to like the 13 yard line...it was definite neal down time, but they gave the ball to Gado two more times so he could get the 100 yards.

It sent the media into a frenzy over Gado...ROOKIE gets 100 yards and 3 td's etc...

This sort of Made Sherman have to go with him no matter what at that point.

I think Kubiak didn't want Lundy to get the 100 yards, because he is not necessarily convinced Lundy is them man yet either. (even though he was tickled to death to have two rb's finally playing well)

I think what happened today was awesome! But the truth is if you switch the carries...meaning, arbitrarily have Lundy in for when Samkon is in the game, and Samkon in for when Lundy is in the game, then the trade makes Lundy look pretty bad...

Lundy doesn't pick up those three first downs on third and short...He proved he is willing to lose yardage dancing around...

But if Gado catches that Toss sweep or runs through the CAVE of a hole on iso, then Gado definitely would have gotten those yards. Lundy did add a few yards with a nice hip-shake that Gado doesn't pull off...but Gado crushes that same defender and gets an extra 5 yards, where Lundy got an extra 7-8...so its about even, and Gado may knock that defender out of the game...he did that regularly last year (6 or 7 times).

I think it is great to have Two backs with confidence...all I am saying is timing is everything. Lundy was the beneficiary of a very well executed toss sweep. I hope every NFL running back still on the active roster in week 6 could have made 25 yards on that one...

If Gado catches that swing pass that he dropped and makes one guy miss and then gets four yards....Lundy never even plays in the second half...and we'd be talking about Gado's 150 yard day...

I think over the next three-to-five weeks you will see the following things:

1. Ron Dayne get released.
2. Lundy get enough carries and does well, but his frame cannot handle 26 carries a game and he comes up limp for a week or two...
3. They are forced to activate the practice squader to back up Gado for a week.
4. They start relying a little more on the ISO and Power and Vonta Leach really steps up his game.
5. Samkon has two 100 yard games in a row....

Then, Lundy is back healthy, and we definitely have the Warrick Dunn TJ Ducket Duo then....and then we could make serious run in the division...

Keep in mind Larry Johnson backed up Priest Holmes for a good while...Tiki Barber was a back up a while as well...

I think Gado has that kind of potential. Not sure about Lundy. When Lundy creates yards that aren't there, then I will be convinced.

One thing is for sure...Dayne would have found a way to turn that toss sweep into a 12 yard gain.

I haven't read any post in this thread but this one, but I can tell you right now, ANY running back will NOT succeed in this system. It takes running backs who are quick to the hole and have the vision to find the cutback lane. Lundy may not be the answer, but Gado and Dayne shouldn't even be in the equation.

I thought the rookie looked pretty good today. Not great, but good. He missed a couple of holes by juking out of his lane, but overall, I liked the performance. Our line seemed to have taken a step forward, as well. If they can consistently build on today's performance, we could have a nice second half of the season.

That really is the answer here. The OL stepped up today, that and I think Wali is hungry now after being inactive for 3 weeks. I agree the second half of this seaseon should be very interesting.

These are all the All Day (Adrian Petterson) guys tring to keep the heard on task. JMHO, thought the line as a whole played very well. The left side especially. Pitts and the grey beard had an excellent game. Nice i-so block on the big Lundy run by Cook. They protected the lead and held service. Was anyone besides me holding thier breath the last quarter ? Four stars to the patchwork o-line. Just wondering how much juice is left in Salaam's thirty something legs ?

Look Bush is going to go off. It's just a matter of time. But as a lot of us said, he ain't a between the tackles running back. 201 is still 201. Look for the saints to get him a line this off season. All I'm posting is I'd be a little cautious about throwing up these "Bush is a bust " posts. The Kid is ligit. Bouncing it outside and catching dinks and dunks. I think we made the best deal for the team we could on draft day. He didn't fit this team. Let him go.

Well, he's still probably the best we got this season. Credit that Oline for making something happen today (FINALLY!).

I'm probably still not high in taking a RB early though. I think we have more pressing needs than RB still...

Bush doesn't need a better line he needs to learn to have patience and follow his blocks instead of racing to the outside. Untill then he will be an average runner.

Kubes is doing the right thing with what he has right now. we have three c- running backs doing a good enough job to win 6 maybe 7 games this year. right now that is all i am looking for with this team. carr is fitting into the system perfectally!!!! aj and moulds are making his job easy and as soon as jerome mathis gets back our return game will be lights out again. lewis, dr and faggins are solid corners...esp when peek, mario, and tj are putting the pressure on quarterbacks.

with all this we need a runningback in next year draft...ha. we will have our b+ back with dd back, a c back in lundy, and some bruisers in gado and dayne. what we need to do is keep addressing the line, our secondary, and maybe start looking for a wideout to replace moulds two years down the line. we have tight ends, a good recieving core, a solid qb and an adequate d-line and linebackers. we need another corner to compliment dr and lewis and find the missing link scott and earl are filling.

like i continue to say "in kubes i trust"

I think that Kubiak fella is crazy like a fox.

We started five rookies on opening day. Gave them plenty opportunity to earn their spots on the team. Wali kinda stuttered behind a poor offensive line, he fumbled, then Kubes hit him hard.... B@W% slapped him really.

Three games later, Kubiak says, "Look....... we need you to step today. We've got problems on offense, I ain't gone lie. We've got a little confusion going on up front, but right now, it's the best we got. Either you put up....... or I'll B@#$slap yo butt back on the inactive list for another month."

And bam, Lundy plays better.

As long as they block like they did in the 2nd half lundy will succeed as RB for the texans. Thats the reason he had so many long yardage plays on a couple of them he didnt get touched until maybe 5 yards after scrimmage
