It's Battle Red, baby. Bring it!

Sunday.

Reliant.

Be there.

Wear Red.

Here's some of my bringing it: Link (hyperlinks in the original)

The team encourages all the fans to wear red, and the Texans have oft played inspired football on Battle Red Day, with a 3-2 record when wearing red jerseys.

There might be something scientific to this. Scientists who probably should be curing cancer or something valuable in life have done studies showing that sports individuals and teams that wear red play better.

Yesterday, there was a report that some dirtbag threatened to dirty bomb seven NFL stadiums, including Houston's Reliant Stadium. Today, there is a report that the FBI is questioning the 20-year-old man that may be responsible for writing the email. They are characterizing the threat as "phony."

The Houston Chronicle's John Lopez wrote a nice article today that talks about the nature of terrorism and encourages people to come to the game on Sunday. He quotes Eric Moulds:

"America is the greatest country, and it's going to take care of its citizens. The government is going to do everything to keep its citizens safe. I couldn't think of a better place to be on Sunday than at Reliant Stadium."

Hopefully, we will have a great game to watch as well. For just about every game the Texans have played against the Jaguars, the Jags have had a better team on paper. However, the historical series is tied 4-4.
Lopez says that a Houston Grand Opera singer is going to be doing the national anthem. I love the opera singers' version of it--non-cheesed up.

Wear red. Even if you think it is a cheesy marketing thing. Do not be the person messing up the picture.

No hating or boohooing in this thread. Just bring it.:texflag:

From the email today. In case you missed it...

Due to the warning from Homeland Security, Kirby Drive will close earlier than usual this Sunday. Kirby will now close at 10:00 a.m. If the early closure affects your arrival to the game, here is a link to our parking lot map. Just click the appropriate parking lot and you will see a detailed map to plan alternate routes accordingly

I will be easy to find, I will be the guy wearing a red shirt in the crowd...

Right, like a teal fan knows how to bring it.

I'll be there with my Battle Red custom, as will the other half. I love Battle Red, everyone really goes all out for it...well, except the one who ruined the picture.

GET THERE EARLY, IF FOR SOME UNTEXAN REASON YOU DO NOT AT LEAST OWN A RED TSHIRT. THE FIRST 30K IN THE GATE GET ONE FREE, SO THERE ARE NO EXCUSES!!!

Teal fan Filo Girl?? Ask the Stealers about Teal Night at Alltell. Talk about bringing it, we brought to the point of giving them their first shut out since I can't remember when. Teal night was awesome. I actually got an opportunity to hang with Robb, the Cat who came up with the concept of teal night, at the game. He was stoked to see his idea come to life. I am looking forward to this one coming to life as well.

Seeing a Red Stadium will be a great testament to unity of your fan base. I know one thing for sure, this is going to be an awesome game. As I stated earlier in our forum, you all are on the verge of winning a game.

Texans are a lot stronger than their win record suggests...

Texans love to blitz, they know how to pressure the QB. Jags have only 2 more sacks than the Texans.

Texans gave Dallas hell in the first half, Texans actually led the game going into the second half last week.

The week before, Miami had to come back from behind to win it with 2 minutes left to go in the game.

Carr is dangerous. The game before Miami, Carr had 3 TD's and 140.2 QB rating against Indy.

All a team has to do is make the mistake of looking past you and its on IMO...

Speaking of red, I read this article on the color red a while back and there was this study done to reveal how opponents actually get intimidated by the color. It made it seem like this was a natural reaction. I almost sent it to JDR thinking that instead of the players wearing a black under their eyes they could try red as my rational at the time assumed it would be more intimidating phsycologically speaking. But like a lot of things I never got around to it.

I know ALL about Teal night for y'all. I am a member of the 'other Jag board' too and get the email and chat with other Jag fans. It was Sept 18, the first one ever, and Robb is the one who coordinated it.
BATTLE RED day is ours, and has been in existance for several years. Have not seen you at your home board, why not?

I needed a vacation, or maybe the board needed a vacation, regardless I am actually to the point where I am satisfied with the Cats holding down the fort over there, and with the Jaguars back to their winning ways I can finally relax and spend more of my energy on other ventures; the board is virtually on autopilot these days. I'll show up now and again to tweak things out while getting my Jag fix, but I am no longer a full time resident. My hands are actually tied to another arduous project I am working on behind the scenes.

Here is the real scoop on the color "red" and it's role in sports...

http://www.usatoday.com/sports/2005-05-19-winning-color_x.htm

Anthropologists: If you want to win in sports, wear red
By Joseph B. Verrengia, The Associated Press
If winning is everything, British anthropologists have some advice: Wear red.

Anthropologists might say U.S. Olympic taekwondo gold medalist Steven Lopez was the beneficiary of his red body armor.
By Robert Scheer, USA TODAY

Their survey of four sports at the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens shows competitors were more likely to win their contests if they wore red uniforms or red body armor.

"Across a range of sports, we find that wearing red is consistently associated with a higher probability of winning," report Russell A. Hill and Robert A. Barton of the University of Durham in England. Their findings are in Thursday's issue of the journal Nature.

Red coloration is associated with aggression in many animals. Often it is sexually selected so that scarlet markings signal male dominance.

Just think of the red stripes on the scowling face of the male Mandrill, Africa's largest monkey species. But red is not exclusively a male trait. It's the female black widow spider that is venomous and displays a menacing red dot on her abdomen.

Similarly, the color's effect also may subconsciously intimidate opponents in athletic contests, especially when the athletes are equal in skill and strength, the researchers suggest.

In their survey, the anthropologists analyzed the results of four one-on-one contact sports at the summer games: boxing, taekwondo, Greco-Roman wrestling and freestyle wrestling.

In those events, the athletes were randomly assigned red protective gear and other sportswear.

Athletes wearing red gear won more often in 16 of 21 rounds of competition in all four events.

The effect was the same regardless of weight classes, too: 19 of 29 classes had more red winners, and only four rounds had more blue winners.

The red effect also might come into play in team sports.

The anthropologists made a preliminary analysis of the Euro 2004 international soccer tournament, in which teams wore jerseys of different colors in different matches. They found that five teams scored more goals and won more often when they wore shirts that were predominantly red, as opposed to blue or white jerseys.

Scientists don't precisely known how wearing red might give athletes an advantage. But the color delivers implicit messages of vigor and danger. When people get angry, their faces turn red. It's also a reason why stop signs are red. So are most Ferraris.

A case can perhaps be made that most of the recent winners of U.S. sports championships have at least a touch of red on their uniforms: among pro teams, the Boston Red Sox, New England Patriots, the Detroit Pistons. And in college football, Southern California.

But it's the gracious sport of golf that offers the best example. Tiger Woods wears an iconic red shirt on Sundays, the final day of most tournaments.

My custom white jersey has red letters, so that'll have to do. :ok: 'nuff said
Pleeeeeeese wear red. What if I asked really nicely?

And waved a towel. :redtowel:

And did a semi obscene dance :wiggle:

And shed tears. :crying:

The custom jersey will look lovely for the Buffalo game.

There's not much as fans we can do. We can't workout, or study harder to make the team better.

All we can do is show up early and stay late, yell when we're supposed to and be quiet when we're supposed to, and wear the colors.

And this is a game where we're not individual fans, but being part of the team.

3-2 wearing red is weird. Don't mess with that. Please.

That, and I have to say, when I see people on battle red day not wearing red, it makes me want to brain them. I know that is not logical, but I just do. Like the guy in the Faggins picture wearing purple. Or the lady wearing the bright white shirt.

You should be safe from my semi-conscious non-red rage, as I will be in the platinum lot.

Please.

I agree generally with you but what really chaps me is not the people who show up in the wrong color of Texans gear but those who show up with nothing Texans at all. I don't get it. I didn't grow up in Houston and so don't know about all the "Houston fan" comments I read and hear but when a third of the folks don't bother to wear something team affiliated it makes me wonder.

My thought is that you should wear the gear.

And if you can't wear the gear, wear the right danged colors. Hello, the colors are red, white and blue--you must be a nudist if you don't own clothes in those colors.

And if you can't wear the right dang colors, don't wear a @#$%&*! Cowboys jersey when the @#$%&*! Cowboys aren't playing in the stadium. You do that, that means you are by definition a @$$&%$*. There are about 4 of those guys I see each game.

I've sat in the club section, and the club attire nearly killed me or caused me to want to bust out bodily harm.

I gave my Battle Red t-shirts to Katrina folks. They were a little big for me, and I figured it was for a good cause.

I understand, TC...I really do....buuuuuuuut.... (now you asked to keep it out of this thread, but since you addressed me directly....)

1) As a rule, I can only wear jerseys to games, and I no longer have a battle red jersey...

2) I'm up in nose bleeds (549), so I won't ruin any pictures...

3) I have absolutely NO belief that fan support makes one bit of difference in the play of the 2006 Houston Texans. There have been way too many third and longs with the crowd unconditionally supporting our defense, and they consistently blow it....

4) As a fanatic that will continue to buy season tickets in spite of continually losing, I have little room to protest. Boycotting marketing angles is all I've got...well, I can moooo a lot, but beyond that, little recourse is available to me.

5) Besides, the TDC is going patriotic this week - one of us in red, one of us in white, and one of us in blue. I think supporting America is much more important right now than supporting the Texans front office's marketing decisions/requests. Don't you love the U.S.A., for crying out loud?! ;)

I was planning on buying a battle red custom, right after I bought my custom white. But nflshop.com, in their infinite wisdom, decided to change the rules to 10 letters right after I got my custom jersey with 12 letters on it. Go figure....and no way can I pay an extra $60 just because the shop is in the stadium (which can do 12 letter custom jerseys).

I sit in the lower level sideline and see people every week - a lot of them - who seem clueless as to why they are even there. Expecting that element to wear red, or any Texans gear for that matter, seems kind of pointless. Sometimes I wonder why they go to the trouble of driving out.

Their priorities seem to be: 1) getting to their seats by mid-second quarter - but not until after they stand in the aisle for several minutes trying to find their seats; 2) getting a 5 lb. baked potato topped with enough crap to feed a small army. 3) getting multiple foot long chili dogs topped with enough crap to choke that 120 lb Japanese hot dog eating champion; 4) dumping cotton candy, sodas, and dippin dots down the kids throats so they can qualify for Jump Cam and get their faces on the big screen (then high-fiving each other when they do); 5) Holding up three fingers and yelling three! at the end of the Landrys shell game or whatever the hell that thing is (then high fiving and chest bumping each other before going back out for a potty break, popcorn, and nachos grande with extra cheese and jalapenos); 6) texting, talking on, or taking pics with the cell; 7) looking at me like I have two heads when I stand up and yell when we are on defense; 8) diving over several rows of seats to get the free t-shirts being shot up into the stands; 9) leaving at the end of the third quarter regardless of score to beat the traffic - in the middle of a drive - while talking on the cell; and 10) either calling sports radio 610 or posting on this message board on Monday threatenting to cancel season tickets they don't own because we didn't draft Bush or Young.

Well, if it is patriotism thing, I guess that outweighs the battle red thing.

I just enjoy seeing the sea of red making its way into the stadium. The first battle red was just so fine. Even the Big 12 championship game last year, with all the Longhorn fans was amazing-loud as hades and mostly orange. And I kept thinking how it is going to be when the Texans get good.

I have a good imagination.

I was just yanking your chain more than anything, TC. :shades:

I'll be buying a custom battle red jersey soon enough...but I can't go to the game in a regular t-shirt. That would be just....wrong. I've worn jerseys from the first game on, and it's policy.

Hope we can go 4-2 with battle red tomorrow!! :redtowel:

I absolutely LOVE red shirt day!!! I truly don't know if it has any impact on the outcome of the game or not, I doubt it, BUT, it sure adds to the excitement. Maybe if our guys see a sea of red, and hear their fans try to blast the roof off, if just might give them that extra incentive they have been lacking this year. Sure doesn't hurt to try!

Perfect post. At the Miami game there was lady a few rows down from me who watched movies on her portable DVD player throughout the entire game. At the Eagles game, the man next to us did nothing but eat peanuts and check his watch the whole game. I mean this guy did not so much a clap one time. Ugh, I can't wait until the Texans get good so we can get a real fanbase.
