Of all the players metion who we miss

It is probably Gary Walker who we miss most right now. I will let Vinny respond to this, because I think Gary was a favorite of his. I don't think we have any one coming even to close to him even in his retirement years.

walker, glenn, sharper, & mccree. these guys are the reason we won games despite capers & fangio. i miss having veterans.

And Dunta and the CB crew haven't been decent since
Again, I agree, but we had no control over what happened two years ago, but Walker was released this year, not last year. In fact my question would be could we still bring him back? Not that he would want to, but it would be interesting. I don't think he could be any worse than TJ.

You'd want Jimmy Hart back (the mouth of the south)? To me that is the main reason they let Walker go, and the main reason they wouldn't want him back

And "we" had control of this last year? Glenn was under contract and could have been retained without any negotiation.

Yes Walker could come back--he is sitting somewhere on his couch watching the NFL on Sundays since 32 teams agreed his time is done.

Sharper back on this team would pay dividends immediately.
Jamie in the middle and Ryans moving to the outside.

His leadership would help a lot.

While I'm wishing..... a million dollars doesn't sound too bad either.

Sharper is one folks need to leave alone. The Texans correctly for once evaluated the injury problems age and contract and let him go. He didn't make it thru last season and is now out of the league. The only dividend he can pay at this point is an extra fan in the stands.

Our defense is so bad the secondary might improve if we put P-Buc back in. We have to change something somewhere.

I knew he got hurt last year but didn't know he was out of the league.

Couldn't help us much in the stands. I sure haven't been able to.

Of all the players we've lost since the beginning of the franchise, I miss Aaron Glenn, Jeff Posey, Marlon McCree and Gary Walker the most.
From last year's team, Wand, Walker, and even Coleman would look good back there this year.

I am going to respectfully disagree. Our run D hasn't been the same since Sharper left. He might not have been able to cover the pass but he knew how to shed the blocker and make the tackle. Unlike, and I know he is a rookie so he will improve, Ryans when committed to one side of the blocker and Portis ran right by him for a T.D.

I miss Sharper. I miss Glenne. Hell I would even take Forman back at this point.

Sharper and Glenn.......it's amazing how good our D was our first year and how it has come to this....yes we didn't have the greatest D, but it was respectable.....I miss Dom Capers also.

BUENO!
Marlon McCree and Kenny Wright could both help us a great deal right now. Add those two to Dunta Robinson and Glenn Earl and you have a secondary that is respectable.

At linebacker I think that if we'd kept Steve Foley he'd probably be a beast for us instead of recovering from gunshot wounds in California. Of course he has a rather interesting idea of "fun" and so he might be here in Houston recovering from gunshot wounds or he might even be dead.

A guy we don't have and never had but who keeps coming to my mind is Derrick Johnson. That non-pick will bother me for some time to come.

Gary Walker? Totally overrated and had a deserved rep for being lazy. Same for Robaire. Crike, I know it looks bad right now people, but calling for Gary Walker?

Our D-line looks as bad as they do in large part because they are having to take on 5-6 blockers every play while our other 7 defenders drop into a zone. Don't care who you are up front, you're just not going to get through that much when that's the case. Anyone notice when Brunell threw his first incompletion yesterday, a play broken up by Lewis Sanders (should have been an INT.) That's right, wonder of wonders, a blitz. The straight four-man rush is a thing of the past and it doesn't matter who you're starting up front, it's just not going to work that much when it's your answer, play in and play out, for creating pressure.

Mario is young and raw and needs a lot of help with his technique. There were a number of times last game where he manhandled Samuels or Jansen into the backfield, but right now he just lacks finishing moves to get by. He needs to develop swims, spins, and use better leverage on his rush. His instinct for the play and where it's headed also needs a ton of refinement; he bites on misdirection and seems to still be thinking way too much out there. Or of course he could just be a bust, a workout warrior, etc. etc. :blah: Weaver, Payne, and TJ are being adequate but very unspectacular.

Right now, I see other teams making adjustments to exploit our defensive weaknesses, and I see other defenses adjusting to what we do offensively (e.g. taking away the rollout.) I don't see our defensive coaching making adjustments. Like many of you, it seemed to me that Washington came right back out after half and ran the same draws and screen plays that they had used in the first half, with zero apparent adjustment on our side. I haven't watched the tape of the game yet, but I will soon.

To tell you the truth, I don't miss anybody. Why should I? Its not like we were winning with these players. If and when we start to win some football games and put some winning seasons together, then I'll start missing players if they leave the team. Until then, whats the point?

Our secondary would improve if we could get a pass rush.

I know that sounds like a worn out cliche, and I know I've said that a thousand freaking times by now.

But it's TRUE. Just like Tim Ryan said during the game yesterday . . . "you show me Pro Bowl corners or safeties, I'll show you Pro Bowl defensive linemen in front of them."

The best DL that has ever graced Steel Blue was Gary Walker. He is was a beast in his day, but he was in decline when he got here. I don't think some of you fans really appreciated what you were looking at in year one as you dismiss him so easily. The Texans did something counterintuitive to his longevity when they encouraged him to stay big. He should have been getting leaner...but that's just another disaster in logic in a long line of bad decisions. Gary wasn't worth what they paid him when they gave him that last contract. I think they handled that wrong too looking back. I think Aburge went bonkers at the time and looking back his first reaction was astute.

That said, we don't miss 'Gary Walker - overpaid, hates to lose, constantly grumbling, perpetually injured guy', but we sure do miss the beast he was when the Cowboys couldn't block him with two men when we look back at 19-10 and our early defensive core. Sharper, Walker, Payne, Glenn and Colemen were the defensive core. Those guys weren't bad, but careers are short in the NFL and we have made poor decision after poor decision grading talent leading us to a team that couldn't keep replacing above average players with more equal or dominant players.

Who remembers Eric Brown?

I have to say Domanick Davis. He may not have been much to some, but he was our offense last year.

Marlon McCree hands down
Yup, that's the one that we are actually missing the most IMO. He would have helped the safety issue big time. Glenn would have been good to keep as a nickle/dime guy for last year, but probably not this year.
