Texans random thought of the day

So, random thought....Caserio claimed Eno, but is it really going to make a difference? Will Lovie and Pep actually use him? We still have Dare, but only in the past few games has he even got any use outside of special teams. Why? Is Burkhead that much better than Dare? It seems like Caserio has brought in guys to try and see if they can make an impact on the team, but Pep and Lovie just aren't using them. I mean, Caserio brought in Tyron Johnson, but he hasn't been used. Before Tyron, Tyler Johnson was brought in, not used, and then cut. The only player that has really been used is Jordan Akins. Howard was used the first game after he was signed, but hasn't been involved much, other than as a blocker, since then. Why are Pep and Lovie not using these guys? I mean, we're in rebuild mode, we should at least play these guys, and find out if any of them can be a part of the future. Making them a healthy scratch on gameday doesn't accomplish anything.
You want them to win games or something?

Talent. Deficient.

Put those two words together. You get the Texans. A better coaching staff might have them at 3 wins right now, instead of 1, but in all reality no one is going to do much with this current bunch of misfits with a tiny mixture of recently drafted talent. Yall need to just quit expecting anything out of this bunch for another year or two. And that's only IF they get a good HC and continue to draft well. What are the chances?

The Texans can come back from this hole they're in, but it will take a few seasons, not just one.

Someone else said it (I think it was Cody Stoots), but I agree. He said, if the Texans had the Giants coaching staff, and the Giants had the Texans coaching staff, the Texans would have beaten the Giants. I think if we had the Giants coaching staff, we might be leading our division right now, but would definitely be in the playoff hunt. That's how bad I think our coaching staff is. We might have a few position coaches worth keeping, but at a minimum, Pep and Lovie have to go.

The coaching staff ain't that great, that's true. But the player talent level is the biggest problem with the Texans.

Combine the look of the maroon helmet to the original gold helmet and call them the Redhawks.....something tells me the fans would be pretty dang happy versus the current shite look.

A fan owns the trademark to "Washington Redhawks". I guess Snyder for some reason, didn't want to buy the name from him and they went with the cheesy Commanders.

The Texans cut WR Tyron Johnson.
The Texans have signed Packers WR Amari Rodgers off waivers
And there goes Tyron Johnson. Caserio brought in another WR for the coaching staff to not use. Big surprise.

2024 baby I'm optimistic! New rockstar head coach, a talented young defense, a promising rookie QB, and an easy schedule. 9-10 wins with a wildcard berth and a first round playoff exit. But it's okay because we'll follow that up with a 12 win 2025 and a division title along with our first trip to the AFC Championship game where we lose a thriller to the Joe Burrow lead Bengals. Screenshot this boys hold me accountable

Would be a great theme for the team (e.g. be renamed the Rednecks and hire Foxworthy as PR director).

"Well... if it's November and you're hoping for a potential Wildcard berth, and for team management to not all get massive fines and/or jail time for inappropriate office behavior - you might be a Redneck!"

Never understood why suspensions could be served when a player is not being employed and paid anyway.

Chris Herndon suspended eight games
Posted by Charean Williams on November 16, 2022, 5:35 PM EST

The NFL has suspended free agent tight end Chris Herndon for the eight remaining weeks of the 2022 regular season, Field Yates of ESPN reports. A reason was not given for Herndon’s suspension.

He previously was suspended for the first four games of the 2019 regular season for violating the league’s policy on substances of abuse. Herndon pleaded guilty earlier that year to DWI stemming from a June 2018 wreck.

During training camp this summer, Herndon signed with the Saints but lasted only three weeks with the team. The Saints cut him Aug. 23, and he has remained a free agent since.

Herndon spent 2021 with the Vikings after playing the first three seasons of his career with the Jets. He appeared in 16 games with five starts for Vikings, but he made only four receptions for 40 yards with one touchdown.

A fireable offense for a defensive minded HC.

It appears that Lovie's happy collecting checks.
The run defense is giving up 170.3 yards rushing a game BETWEEN THE TACKLES!!? I knew the run defense was garbage, but holy smokes! That is Gawd awful!
Yeah, like my dad used to say, you can't polish a turd.
That white spec on top of chicken crap is still chicken crap!

Don't understand the complaints about Caserio churning the bottom of the roster.

This year has been one long training camp. Bring em in, check em out, keep em or send em packing.

We'll be a step ahead when the next training camp opens. Fewer free agents to check out. Hopefully with a competent staff.

Not too sure this current staff could even recognize talent, but players can be timed and checked for injuries and conditioning.
Things that matter. Doubtful any of them will be coached up this year by this bunch.

Seems the same posters complain if he "sits on his hands and does nothing".

Time for more Seaport dark roast, my cups empty. :D

Random thought. What the heck is Mills talking about in this quote? Did Pep, Lovie and Mills just figured out that not all teams show Cover 2 or one defense on every defensive play? Next he will tell us every INT has a story?

I think how football has evolved in recent years. Across the league, I think defense has the one up on offense with just the sheer talent, speed and size of the defensive linemen and the blitz packages, that offenses are trying to find ways to catch back up,” He explained. “Running the football and beating them down is one way to do it, and another way is to win those one-on-one matchups when you can catch them in man-to-man coverage. Other than that, like I said, the rest of our stuff is progression based.

“You’ve got to fall back on your training and your preparation throughout the week to hopefully find someone open as it progresses, because right now there’s not a lot of things you can predict pre-snap. Teams are disguising really well. They are running coverages that aren’t very by-the-book of old school defenses, just straight coverages. They are running a lot of combination coverages and different ways to get to similar coverages, but it’s not the traditional way. There’s a lot of things you’ve got to react to and just go out there and be a football player so you can make a play.”

Imagine if he got to practice against a defense each week that actually did this stuff he’s talking about?

I think this is one reason that many HCs/OCs don't give young QBs a full slate of plays.

Open up the offense will only worsen the situation with a QB that admits he's still learning about how different defenses plan to counter and to counter-attack the offense.

That’s how a team gets the Nathan Peterman treatment. Coaches would rather lose by 10 or so points than be down 35-0 at the half.

Sounds to me like they have a problem in the scouting department. Not the talent scouts but the people who are supposed to scout the other teams so the coaches can develop game plans.

When watching Mills it looks like he’s seeing something totally different than what he expected to see.

Sure, that could be that Mills is simply not the guy. But the way he performs when they hurry up, when defenses are pretty much locked in with personnel & have to simplify, it makes me think it’s something else
