[Pick 67] Davis Mills QB Stanford

What I got is a highly talented thrower of the football, who has not played to his high school ranking, but has not been awful either. This about where in terms of the draft position he was supposed to go. and yes, the Texans need a long-term answer at QB since the better bet is that none of the current guys are on the roster by 2023.
Had our idiot GM struck while the iron was still hot and traded DW4 we could have added several early picks. I could see us getting a better prospect at QB! We still would have had enough early picks who would be more likely to fill more voids. As it stands this was most likely a wasted pick. It is not likely we have the next Tom Brady!

Jaysus !!!! this is a surprise ...dang nick talk about a big FUDGE U to watson LOL

anywho i hope to jaysus Mills is red shirted this year talk about draft a QB to a bad team lets not send mills to the slaughter plzzz

I like his size 6'4" 212lbs

GOOD JOB TEXANS!!!!

Really good pick by the Texans though I think the family thought he would get drafted earlier. There was buzz he would go higher in the draft. Davis just wants the opportunity to compete and he is absolutely thrilled to be a Texan.

He has a relentless passion for football. Definitely will put in the extra work to get better. He will be the 1st player in and the last to leave.

Really proud to be Texans fan with this pick!

Not surprised with the pick. I perhaps would have drafted differently, but I like the pick. He'll sit this year, at least to start the season, but position as #2 will be his to lose. Finley will be #3.

I can see him with pro coaching developing into a stud..he’s got great raw physical tools. I can also see him not developing quite enough to be a real threat as a starter.....on the high side, Matt Ryan...on the low side, Sage Rosenfels.
Sage says "Stop that! What did I ever do to you?"

I doubt we're looking for our long-term QB solution in the third. I m having a hard time seeing this as a need move.

He had to have been BPA, or it doesn't make sense. As a matter of fact, it still doesn't make sense, unless he was an, "If we had the #3 pick we would have traded down twice & took this guy at the top of the 2nd, I can't believe he's still here." Pick.

I made the suggestion before the draft the Texans take whoever was 50 rank player still there at 67...My quick glance is there was anybody obviously clearly higher-ranked (could be wrong) .. and we damn sure don't know Caserio's board.

At least we didn't draft that Mac Jones dude. That would have been a disaster.

I have watched some film of Mills. Good arm, good placement, reads the field, can make every throw, looks off DBs. Down side, he can get nervous in a dirty pocket.

I would have went DB or OL but not bad IMO. I think Culley and Pep wanted to start fresh

I give him 3 years until he’s off the team. Watched his highlights or shall I say lowlights and I’m not sold. He’s a turnover machine to begin with. I’m guessing he missed a lot of games due to injuries. He’s on the team so I’ll root for him but I’ve seen this story before. Really disappointed with the organization

The legal stuff on DW came out before any trades could have been made by NFL rules. Doesn't matter if it had been agreed to for 100 1st round picks, it wouldn't have mattered and wouldn't have been final. No DW trade could have been approved.

Good size, big arm and is mobile enough to escape if pressured. He’s a project gentleman who will sit and learn behind Taylor.

We all know Watson is out of here. Good draft pick even though I would’ve went defense.
see there is that rationalizing I usually do.
I just have the same sinking feeling I've had for last 3-4 drafts and not sure I am up to trying to trying to rationalize the pick. I guess we get to see Pep be Peppy.

Is Shanny and his pick of Lance with 18 starts an idiot?
Maybe not. However the draft of Lance was universally thought to be a better prospect. The 49ers had early draft picks to still fill out other needs. I just think drafting any developmental Qb in the third round when we are without a first or second round pick is a bit of a reach. Although Trey Lance only played in 7 more games that is still plenty more games than Davis Mills played. Davis may end up great but I just think that pick should have addressed our defense. I hope Davis Mills ends up a star!

I don't disagree with you

I just think we should give the guy a chance.

Texas were reportedly ready to trade QB Deshaun Watson (yahoo.com)

Before 22 women accused Deshaun Watson of sexual misconduct, the Houston Texas were reportedly adamant against trading their 25-year-old franchise quarterback.

“Under no circumstances will the Texans trade Watson,” the Houston Chronicle's John McClain wrote in January.

That was before Watson reportedly requested a trade from a Texans franchise spiraling further into dysfunction. After the request? ESPN and NFL Network reported in February that the Texans were standing firm, shutting down potential suitors and sometimes declining to return phone calls.

New story from Houston amid Watson's sexual misconduct suit
Now Watson's reputation has taken a nosedive, and his future as an NFL quarterback is in peril. And with the NFL draft on Thursday, that narrative is changing. The same Texans beat writer who wrote in January that there was no circumstance that Houston would trade Watson now reports that the Texans were preparing to deal him ahead of the draft. And they had a quarter of the NFL lined up for a bidding war.

Would the Texans have traded Deshuan Watson without the legal trouble he's facing? (Carmen Mandato/Getty Images)
8 teams were reportedly interested
Per the report, the Dolphins, Jets, Panthers, Broncos, 49ers, Patriots, Bears and Washington were all interested in a deal for Watson. The Dolphins were prepared to part with Tua Tagovailoa and the No. 3 pick that they instead dealt to the San Francisco 49ers. And that was just a starting point.
This was all before Watson was accused in a civil lawsuit by 22 different women of sexual misconduct ranging from unwanted touching of genitals, forcing a massage therapist to touch his genitals and forcing a woman to perform oral sex.
Watson has repeatedly denied any wrongdoing through his attorney Rusty Hardin.
Regardless of the pending legal outcome facing Watson, the accusations have cooled the trade market for the once-coveted young quarterback. And now it seems the Texans were open to trading him?
As usual, it's difficult to decipher the truth from the smokescreens during NFL draft week.

Did you even read my post? Zero of what you copypasted matters. No trade would have been approved because all the legal stuff came up one day before teams could make trades under NFL rules. DW could not have been traded before all the accusations came along, no matter how many teams were interested. Period. This was covered on this forum many times.

One thing that stands out is his internal clock. The ball is out quickly or he's moving before the pocket breaks down. No waiting for trouble .... and makes good reads on the move.

Really solid footwork ....

Seems to make good decisions.

Arm is "adequate" but nothing special. Gonna have to be more accurate in the NFL.

If he has good footwork then his accuracy should improve. The vids I saw looked like he was accurate from the pocket. Did he lose accuracy on the move?

When you say arm strength is nothing special, I get it's not Mahomes Rodgers like. Is it Burrow/Mayfield/Ryan like? Or is it Schaub like?

Can he make all of the throws?

Accuracy looks real good in a clean pocket.

Has a tendency to throw off the back foot rather than stepping up into the rush when the pocket gets dirty.
That'll cause a lot of underthrows / potential turnovers.

Didn't appear to lose much accuracy on the move and had good touch.

Its safe to say he doesn't have an arm like Rodgers or Mahomes who can fling it 80 effortlessly.
Some of the out routes I saw in the highlights seemed to lack a little velocity. Can he make all the throws ? Maybe - arm strength is kinda hard to judge on film alone.

With no NFL combine this year and individual workouts really limited I didn't get to see any of these players in person this year ....
