This is where I am. I used to listen to sports talk all day long but quit after all the blathering about the Astros cheating. I’m in a better mood without it. Coronavirus canceling all sports is another stake in to the heart of my sports fandom. Looks like this terrible trade is finishing the job. All I have left is the disappointment of UT football.I don't give a crap about the NFL in general, only the Texans, so I can't really get behind another team. Looks like my fall and winter Sundays will be free for a while.

The Houston Chronicle's Aaron Wilson reports "friction existed" between DeAndre Hopkins and Bill O'Brien.
ESPN's Dianna Russini adds there were multiple sideline blowouts between Hopkins and O’Brien last year. This explains why the Texans accepted a below-market deal for Hopkins, who's coming off his third straight 1,000 yard season and doesn't turn 28 until June. Hopkins is owed $39.9 million over the next three years — a relative bargain at his $13.1 million AVV. The Cardinals' addition of Hopkins puts Kyler Murray in a great spot for a second-year leap.
The Texans gave up a top three wide receiver and their best offensive player for an injury-prone running back that the Cardinals considered releasing because he makes $14 million this season and a second-round pick. Whether you agree with trading Hopkins or not (I don’t), they got fleeced value wise. I’m sure there were teams willing to give at least one and maybe two first round picks for Hopkins.
Bill O’Brien has succeeded in weakening the Texans’ draft assets for this season and next along with the overall product on the field. It’s an amazing feat that many people couldn’t pull off.
Johnson can't be considered injury prone.Johnson is injury prone and aging. Ya if he is fully healthy he is a stud but I don’t buy it and I would not have done that trade for anything less than their high number one pick and DJ.
Dumpster fire doesn’t even cover this. Dude thinks he a wheeler dealer. Problem is he gets the shaft on every deal he does.
WE did!!
Now I'm waiting on all of those "Tunsil trade" supporters to come back and tell me about how that trade wasn't going to make Bob extremely desperate going into the next off season once he had no draft capital?
Now y'all lost Hop.

Look on the bright side: This move will finally make 2020 the make-or-break year for O'Brien.
This is O'Brien's attempt to be Belichick.
He needs to win a couple of Super Bowls before he pulls something like this.
How will SteelB spin this one?
Gonna be interesting to hear how the Texans spin this trade.
And if this was a knee jerk instance then you’d have a point. Unfortunately this has become the norm since OB has taken total control, starting with the Clowney deal and the chain of events that followed, and, after today, is still going on.Lol not trying to “ defend”...I absolutely hate this move more than any other move this franchise has ever made....
Unlike a lot of people on here though I’m just not knee jerk like that. Gotta see what is done in the draft and the rest of FA..then gotta see what this team looks like next year...
I like Deshaun Watson a lot, but, right now, Hopkins is better at his position than Watson is at his. You can easily make the argument that Hopkins is the best wide receiver in the NFL, and you can’t make that same argument with Watson, yet. At a bare minimum, Hopkins is one of the three best wide receivers in the NFL. Again, you can’t say the same about Watson’s place among quarterbacks.the best offensive player is DW4.
Holy ****, what a fleece job by the Cards... |
bro what the **** is houston doing ** Cardinals got rid of David Johnson’s awful contract, got a 4th this year, and Deandre Hopkins. They only had to give up a second and next years 4th. Bill OBrien is an idiot. *** https://www.chiefsplanet.com/BB/showthread.php?t=329926&page=2 *** Those aren't my comments but rather thoughts about the deal on a Cheifs MB who are as puzzled as we are ? Nobody has a clue, not a clue why anybody would do this deal ? |
Even worse is that Johnson probably would have been cut anyway.

To everyone who loved the tunsil trade. This a result of that. Hopkins wanna get paid like tunsil

You can not give away talent and get little to no value in return trade after trade after trade. You just can’t.
I don’t have a problem if the Texans decided to go another direction that didn’t include Nuk, but you ******* get something back for him!!!!
This dude has zero concept of value and the entire league is laughing their asses of because of it. That **** will catch up and this franchise will be the Browns for the next decade.
I updated my post. To better explain myself. Bro if the Texans gonna pay tunsil top dollar when he ain't the best why should Hopkins not be paid when he possibly is the best.No this wasn’t the result of that, Hopkins and Tunsil are to different positions with two different markets. Plus Hopkins has 3 years left on his deal and wasn’t that bad of a cap hit. That being said I honestly can’t understand what the point of this was. If we had gotten a first the MAYBE but for a 2nd and a RB?
Not nay that but we are losing the only consistent and dependable weapon we had on offense for Watson to throw to? I don’t care if this is a deep WR draft if they drop to 2nd then they are not going to be on Hopkins level for at least a year and that is if the football gods decide to be kinder than they have ever been to any Houston team.
Worst part is.........I don’t even have watching the Roughnecks now to ease the pain.
Ehh, every year with this team fans ***** & moan about the moves this team makes under this guy and just about every year we advance and get better. It Doesn’t always show up the way we want it to, but it does happen. Last year around this time people were losing their **** about the selection of Howard instead of them being aggressive and going after Dillard in the draft.
Years before that it was the release of AJ...
Both moves seemed to work out ok for the team in the long run.
Bottom line for me is I’ve just learned to not get all pissy with things like this. Some in here can’t help it.

OB will trade tunsil one day lol

Neither of the decisions you brought up are direct or indirect decisions of mortgaging the future for incremental progress in the present. The people that approved of Bills trades last year justified it with super bowl or bust, well the Texans busted. You can only have the mindset so many years before you really set your team back.
And the general reaction on here is consistent with the rest of the sports world.
If the reasoning for the trade is draft capital then the Tunsil trade is directly connected.
And if draft capital isn’t the reasoning, well I’m not sure there’s any other reason to make this trade. I can’t make sense of it.
And if this was a knee jerk instance then you’d have a point. Unfortunately this has become the norm since OB has taken total control, starting with the Clowney deal and the chain of events that followed, and, after today, is still going on.

I'm still trying to understand the transaction that sent Clowney packing but this deal is at a whole different level
in mystification ?
Where's our buddy SteelB because maybe he can explain O'Brien "thinking process" here ?
Think about this. Brandin Cooks was traded for a 1st rounder......TWICE!The answer is B, if draft capital was the reason then why didn’t we get any of the capital we spent on Tunsil back. Hopkins was worth a 1st, almost every team in the league could make use of a WR like him. Hell if the Pats sign him Brady might come back next year.
