State of the O-line

Martin grades high in what OB views is the culture of the team

Hardworking, gets along with others, excellent teammate, great work ethic, etc.

Someone needs to take the keys away from his GM duties before he screws the cap. lol

Tweet from @aaronjreiss: Nick Martin's deal averages out to $11M per year, which ties him for the second-highest among centers with Maurkice Pouncey. Only Buffalo's Mitch Morse makes more.

In terms of guaranteed money, Martin's $18.35M ranks fifth at his position, per Over The Cap
Disgusting stupidity. There isn't a person I hate in this world more than Bill O'Brien.

Martins is decent at pass pro but below average at run blocking. He’s definitely not worth 11 million a year. This is one of the things I just don’t get about BOB.

Not enough is being said about how bad Kelemente and Henderson looked last night. Kelemente was laid flat on his ass at least 5 times from my count. Just frigging terrible. Henderson was terrible as well. For the love of God, I would rather see Howard and Scharping out there even if they have to take their lumps rather than these 2 no talent assclowns.

I think it is just a matter of time on both. With Howard injured I think they let him have an extra week to heal and that is not a good environment to make your debut. Rather go with the vet. Howard should be the guy moving forward. How about Johnson playing RT? Henderson looks like he has cement feet.

Unfortunately I don't think anyone else really received snaps at RT. It was mainly Seantrel and Davenport

In the final preseason game, I saw our guy Roderick. He played well .... but it was against 2nd and 3rd stringers. I never saw him get embarrassed .... hope they're teaching the hell out of him. I haven't rewatched the game yet, but, considering it was against the Saints, I think there was a slight improvement. Individually, I saw no one dominate, (or even look good), but they should gel with time. How much improvement .... no clue !

Yep I'd like to see Rod out there.

You can hate BOB all you want for other reasons but according to chron.com he didn't negotiate the contract. It was Chris Olsen. https://www.chron.com/sports/texans...rtin-3-year-33-million-extension-14428438.php

"A former second-round draft pick from Notre Dame, Martin received $18.35 million guaranteed in the new deal that was negotiated between Texans senior vice president of football administration Chris Olsen and Martin's representatives at Creative Artists Agency."

How much input BOB and Jack Easterby had in the deal I don't know but you have to figure they had some input. Remember, it's a 3-headed GM monster, and 3 heads are better than one! Right! :shades:

Not this again. Olsen is not a scout. He doesn't know what players are good. He may have been negotiating but I am sure OBrien directed him on how much he was comfortable with paying and knew the final details before they agreed.

No more of this "not my job" crap. OBrien has full control.

You’re right Olsen is not a scout but where do you keep getting this idea that BoB is a money guy or tries to negotiate contracts? Also why is it we are suppose to believe whatever you post from whichever talking head but when something you don’t believe is reported then it’s not true. There’s that double standard again.

That being said yeah I do think BoB signed off on it.

Ok it was OBrien who has been saying he didn't want to pay clowney what Clowney wanted. O'Brien is the GM now, valuing players is his responsibility.

If he is giving Olsen that responsibility, it makes all this worse, not better.

Didn’t say it made it better and for the record overall I’m against the idea of HC and GM being the same person. It’s works in NE because in reality all BB has to do is keep Brady protected and give him targets that can catch and they’ll win.

Belichick has a lot of help. He may be gm in title but he has a very good analytics guy working for him. He has an OC and a DC. He doesn't call plays.

He knows how to hire and delegate

Yet you have ranted and raved whenever we have brought some of that help to NE.

Tunsil will get the biggest OL contract ever. We traded two 1st round picks for him and cannot let him walk. He knows this, which gives him all the leverage in negotiation.

Right, but any decent OT that signs the next extension will get the biggest contract ever. Better to sign Tunsil now, before they have to top another contract extension.

I'd give OB and Devlin's current OL 2 more starts....if nothing changes then it's time to make the changes now, for the future.

LT- Tunsil
LG- Howard
OC- Fulton
RG- Scharping
RT- Johnson

This would be a pathetic set of circumstances considering the money they decided to give Martin.

OB may be taking three tough strikes in WK1. First, the 2 TO gaffe.....not to be confused with a rookie HC mistake. Second, allowing RC to go prevent defense against Brees with 37 seconds on the clock and the Saints still in possesssion of a TO. On a side note.....why in the duck did OB decide to kick the ball into the endzone versus forcing a return to eat up some of the clock at 37 seconds left in the game? On another side note.....when has a RC defense ever made a crucial stop when the team absolutely needed it? Third, extending Martin when the team should've been looking at ways to trade him for another teams BU RT or OG.
