Texans random thought of the day

I found it interesting that those stats reflected a healthy D and ST’s. At least they excelled in those areas they had better control.

Asking for my benefit, but... TOs, is that a stat that translates year to year?

You can make a strong point that nothing does. But this is the category OB would pick out of the others he’s most proud of. Guy is non stop emphasizing the TO game. ST’s is another. Great emphasis was put there with the hiring of Seeley. They sucked the year before. So the first four stats reflect phases where strong emphasis was made for their improvement. I gotta give credit where it is due and those are positive results.

Were we the only team w injuries?
Entire O line was an injury with zero depth. Didn’t we have one game where a TE had to be plugged in. What about that line communication everyone values so much here? TE’s were rookies....and Griffin. Fuller went out. No #2 WR. Coutee couldn’t stay healthy. Miller was relieved by Blue. Just looking across our roster now I see viable attempts to stock all those positions yet I still hear the non stop harking on ST’s and TO’s. And on D I see a resolve to find a different breed of CB’s. Looking back not a bad year and this preseason to change the culture of this team. Personally I’ve never seen an attempt like this with the Texans or Oilers.

Not really. No. Of course there's exceptions. KC has been in the top 6 in TO ratio the last 4 years, and the only team in the top 10 in those 4 seasons.

Seattle, Rams and Cleveland, along with KC, were in the top 10 last year as well as the previous season.

Only KC, Philly and Buffalo from '16-'17.
KC, NE, Buffalo and GB from '15-'16.

So that's pretty random year to year.

The Texans were 2nd best last year, and that was a big contributor to their 11 win season. Those extra possessions made a difference. The year before they were 5th worst - 4 wins.

Who do you send and for what?
Powda I'm looking at Keke Coutee although I love the guy. Watching him play I think he can play outside as well as the slot so he would be a useful tool for the Raiders. With our tight ends playing a more significant role as I see it this year plus our improved o line we can do without QT. Stills may fill his spot. Remember that a team receiving a player this season for draft picks in 2020 is a bit different as that team would have the player on field. I want olb Maxx Crosby whom I have researched and mocked to Houston Plus 2020 Raiders first round pick from bears. That would be like a second round pick in the 2019 draft. So a 2019 4th round pick plus 2020 second round pick for QT.

Not happening ever.

He has zero draft value. Produced little and cant stay healthy.
Sizzle sells steak. You have to sell the what-if factor. It's the reason he was not cut this offseason. As a rookie in an injured year he was 28 of 41 targets with 10 yards average per catch pretty good. And that is with the other problems we had.

Perhaps but they are possible indicators of improvement that could continue in 2019.

This is the year OB finally puts it all together huh.

Fool me once...

Every year it’s another excuse. This is it. Put up or ship out. The offense we’ve been promised has never come to be. The defense is often bend and break. ST has been consistently terrible. I’m tired of the excuses. I’m tired of hanging on to a hope.

If this isn’t the start of a series of SB runs we are done done. OB would have wasted JJ’s prime while crippling the future.

AFCCG or BUST!

The Raiders are not going to give up more than a 5th for Coutee. They know he can’t stay on the field. So I don’t see this trade happening.

Coutee is quickly reaching Keenum levels around here. He’s been on the trainers table more than he’s been on the field yet people swoon over him.

Were there other teams reduced to one starting WR and a patchwork oline and a #2 RB for much of the season?
The Rams come to mind... seems like Gurley was gimpy off & on and them losing one of their top WRs for the year. That's all I got.

It's obvious all teams have injuries but one cannot ignore the fact that key injuries matter more.
If the Rams are the only other team with similar injuries we are in good company.
Not denying there is work to do and likely time will be needed for the team to gel but I am looking forward to watching my team's progress this year - it beats being Debbie Downer.

Nick Foles went down in the first quarter with an injured shoulder. He was on the sidelines with his arm in a sling in the second quarter.

But “11-5”

/s

It’s sad when the people puff their chests out like a winning record and not winning in the playoffs is the goal.

I was really surprised at the 11-5 record with a terrible OL and a QB coming off of an ACL. With better protection I expect the team to be better this yr even though their record may not be as good as last yrs.

People dont want to accept this, but this is yr 2 of a 3 yr rwbuild.

And it's gonna take a damn good team to keep the Pats out of the big dance again this year.

Can someone tell me something regarding the Clowney trade:

Are the salaries we are paying the 2 LBs plus the amount of salary we are paying Clowneys salary the same amount as if we kept Clowney?

Pretty much. Plus did those LB do anything last night?

So even though we played well - mostly - I'm more disappointed with this loss than I thought I would be.
We’re 0-4 now against SB winning coaches when we had the lead with a minute left. Watson did everything he could and I feel bad for him. It just feels like the same old season where we get close enough to win but we don’t.

We’ll see how they do against the Chiefs and Patriots before I get my hopes up.

I just saw something on NFL app that said the Texans are trading for a “speedy qb”. From Tom Pelissaro
Any body see or hear this??

Never mind, it’s just the kid from the practice squad

Hope that doesn’t mean Watson is bad off with that back injury. Or whatever it is

Didn't they get Alex McGough a week or so back? I think someone said they stashed him on the PS. Might get snagged from there.

Watson is fine.

Obviously, BOB saw what Peyton did with Hill and thought, "I need to get me one of those."
