Texans release Foreman

Those are notoriously poor rankings. RBs can be found throughout the draft. Not gonna sat Howard was the right pick, but not gonna call him a bust yet. Especially not due to some douche bag ranking/rating system.
That's not a bad RB ranking from them. Rashaad Penny 5.85 @ 1.27, Todd Gurley 6.3 @ 1.10, Melvin Gordon 6.24 @ 1.15.

You can get guards in any round too. That doesn't differentiate.

And I gave an example. The opinion of Jacobs being better was universal.

C'mon the 1st RB taken with the next pick, Josh Jacobs. He was universally graded much higher, for example NFL.com Jacobs 6.22 instant starter v. Howard 5.83 chance to become a starter. They forced for need and not even where he's gonna play for now.
Just asking. Have you ever gone back to check the accuracy of those grades?

I agree with you. Josh Jacobs should be a Texans. I'm just asking.

Not disagreeing with you Cak, I wanted Brown myself but Jacobs would have been ok, but let me ask you even if they had taken Jacobs how affective would he have been with the paper thin Oline we have had and still do as far as we can tell?

Who says it would have been more thin? Pick up Howard or someone else instead of Lonnie. Play more in free agency.

Next yrs RB draft class is going to be great and deep. Should be able to get a guy like Swift in the 1st or a guy like Najee Harris in the 3rd. Both are about on par with Jacobs talent wise. My God Alabama was deep at RB last yr.

Philly will probably cut Smallwood who would be a good fit in BOB's offense.

Playing in FA costs $$$$ and we know the Texans org doesn't do that. Gotta win that salary cap championship.

What’s really funny about this is we all know Howie jumped in front of Texans to get their LT of the future in Dillard but what’s not discussed that’s equally unsettling is before the Texans made their 2nd rd selection the Eagles nabbed Myles Sanders, RB Penn State 2nd Rb on my board in the draft. Reports are he is tearing it up in camp and already solidified as their starter.

So 3rd Rd was most realistic, highest graded, available draft slot to address RB and they went out and got a water polo player who just started playing football. Instead of the other Alabama Rb Damien Harris taken very next spick by New England.

Only thing I can think of was they didn’t want Belichick to get another big body TE (to replace Gronk) so bypassed need (RB) to collect another prospect in one of the deeper positions on this roster. :faildetector:

I'm not saying it would be more thin I'm asking if even with taking what we took in the draft, minus say Lonnie or Warring, do you still think it would be enough to make Jacob's worth a 1st round for us?

He's worth a 1st round for sure but for the Texans and the state of the team would he have been that much help?

While I don't disagree with you at the same time if Warring be the next Gronk that early signs point to he was worth the pick no matter how many TEs we have.

Missing my point. Texans already have a good TE nucleus. What they don’t have is good depth @ RB. This infatuation with all things NE has really lowered the IQ on Kirby.

While you and I may both think it's a good nucleus, they're still largely unproven.
Our #1 ydg TE? (@28) - not on the team. Our next two are @ 41 & 43.
Our #1 avg TE (@24) - Akins Our next @33 - not on team
TDs look better with Akins @9th, but he's it.
RB depth is definitely a concern, but when you count on #2 being a workhorse and you cut him well into camp, whose fault is it? How was Gaine to know this is what was in the cards? With "good" OTs and RBs still out there, why isn't our FO getting deals done since they decided GM isn't a concern?

I'm not sure I understand the question. My narrative on TEs is that they are young and unproven. I like Warring but it's a crapshoot at this point
Like anything, need should be a balanced approach. Damien Harris is a more battle tested, proven prospect who could help provide RB group with more depth and receiving option out of the backfield. Ironically Jacobs wasn’t thought to be near polished as receiver but so far more in camp has looked natural catching the ball, lol

..not in the first round. If I was a G.M. I'd never draft a RB in the first round.
never say "never"...
if you were picking in the mid-20s and an Arian Foster-type was the highest rated player on your 'big board' you'd let him slide for someone not rated as highly..??

A Arian Foster type went undrafted so yeah if I had a pressing need elsewhere I would pass. RBs are too unpredictable and the injury risk at the position is too high to be spending 1st round picks on.. Tytus Howard could anchor this line for the next 12+ years.

Now if I felt I was one good back away from being a contender and was comfortable with the other position groups on my team.. yeah, I'd spent a mid 1st on one.

Who is the best back out of Bama in the pros in the Saban era ? Nick runs them guys into the ground .

And how many are sporting rings as the lead back. That's my point.
How many of the SB winners had 1st round LTs? See I can ask for research too.

The drop off from 1st round to mid and further rounds is almost non existent.
I disproved this just a few years ago. League leaders had a hefty curve down 1st thru 3rd but made up the great majority. Beyond that was a crap shoot and the players were almost all shooting stars.

You can get a RB in any round and same thing with LT. 2017 it was a 7th round SB LT.

Too bad about Foreman. But I watched the game again yesterday and Buddy Howell has a great N-S game. He seemed to be playing at a different speed than the other RB’s. He’s bigger than I thought, around 220. Hope he shows this again vs Cowboys because he just shredded the red zone.

Looks like the injury bug won't leave Foreman alone.

https://www.chron.com/sports/texans/article/D-Onta-Foreman-placed-on-injured-reserve-by-Colts-14358677.php

The Colts placed former Texans running back D'Onta Foreman on injured reserve Monday.

Foreman had two touches in the Colts' preseason game vs. the Browns (one reception for 6 yards and one carry for minus-1 yard).

Foreman tore his bicep, which typically comes with a four-month recovery.
1 more yr and he gets his pension.

Ballard and Foreman are both from Texas City.

Lol....Alvin Kamara is....he transfered from Bama after his freshman year when he found out he was in a log jam behind Scarborough, Henry and the others.

Why not? RBs don’t have the steep learning curve coming out of college. The best are productive immediately. They don’t have the career length if other positions. But a team only has a 1st round pick under control for 5 years, anyway. The ROI from a RB, especially if they can be included in the passing game, can be outstanding. No way do I pass on an elite talent just because he’s a RB.

He would have to be very special.

For instance, I think Jacobs is a very good rb but I wouldn't spend a 1st Rd pick on him.

I would say there are as many or more RBs that should have been taken in the 1st (Kamara, David Johnson) than should not have been.

Guess CnD called another one correctly.

Wonder what 7-11 Foreman is currently working at.

Posters need to learn about the effects of certain injuries.
