NFL Random Thought of the Day

Cincy's 1st round pick has shoulder surgery.

The club confirmed that rookie left tackle Jonah Williams underwent left shoulder surgery Tuesday to repair a torn labrum that is likely to sideline him for the entire season, but he is expected to make a full recovery. He sat out the June 11-13 mandatory minicamp after getting injured the week before in practice.
Try to always remember the bright side. At least you're not a Bengals fan.

I heard a very interesting take a few weeis back that says there is a zeitgeist in the NFL currently saying that you build a successful defence from the back forwards, great safety play allows shutdown corner play, which gives time for the pass rush to get where it needs to be whilst maintaining gap integrity.

I wonder if this plays its part in the Texans' Clowney negotiations, they certainly have shown a willingness to pay for safeties of late.

I wonder what others' thoughts on this are, its a big leap from the old build through the trenches mantra.
In my opinion depends on the quarterback you're facing. Good player at any position improves the rest. We just need to get and keep as many good players as we can. I am more concerned about coaching this 2019 season than the players we have.

The problem is that the Texans org limits themselves to the types of good players they are able to acquire.

Which I agree with.

Which is why they will never win until they change the way they go about acquiring players.

It's too much for a FO to overcome with one hand tied behind their backs compared to other successful orgs that don't have these restrictions. Sad thing is as long as the McNair's keep making money hand over fist there won't be much if any changes.

Requiring good players to be good people has nothing to do with mediocrity

You're not bringing in the best players. I'm not saying bring in a team full of miscreants but 2 or 3 wouldn't hurt.

Would guys like Hunt/Hill/Talib make the Texans on field product better?

Not on offense if O'Brien is still calling the plays.
Talib might help on defense. But I doubt it, he's 33 yrs old. So would he actually be any better than Joseph who has already been in RAC's system for years??

Disagree, look at the pts scored last season with a beat up offense. Let Fuller/Coutee stay healthy and improved OL pay and you'll see. I expect a top 10 defense next yr since they are playing against much easier defenses.

In FF I think the Texans offense is a bargain.

Mitch Petrus dies of heat stroke; former Giants offensive lineman was 32
LITTLE ROCK, Ark. — Offensive lineman Mitch Petrus, a walk-on at Arkansas who went on to a three-year NFL career that included a Super Bowl win with the Giants, has died. He was 32.

Pulaski County Coroner Gerone Hobbs said Petrus died of heat stroke Thursday night at a North Little Rock hospital after working outside that day at his family's shop near his hometown of Carlisle, which is about 35 miles (55 kilometers) east of Little Rock.

Like much of the country, Arkansas is in the grips of an intense heat wave. The heat index — the temperature it felt like — in the area where Petrus was working on Thursday was higher than 100 degrees (38 Celsius), according to the National Weather Service.

I dunno is this guy that good ?

No and he isn't highest paid. It's an extension to an existing year so it's actually 6 years and averages a bit over $12 mil. Collins, Mathieu & Thomas are higher, $14, $14 & $13.8. Still a huge payday for one great year in 2017. Have to wait to see the actual structure.

Atlanta Falconsrookie offensive tackleKaleb McGarywill undergo a cardiac ablation procedure Wednesday afternoon with no immediate timetable given for his recovery, the team announced.

The team called it a minimally invasive procedure similar to the two previous procedures McGary has undergone.

ATL must have really liked the upside thy saw in this guy because of his unusual medical history for such a young prson plus @ 24 so couple years older than
most rookies. And he was the 3rd OT taken in this years Draft after Andre Dillard and our guy Titus.
Hope the operation goes well and he has a long and successful NFL career, and a long life after football.

I just want to say this PI instant replay rule is stupid. Yeah, I know it affected the game in a major way & something needed to be done. But...

C'mon man!!

It was a missed PI this time. What if it's a missed hold next time, or false start, or roughing the kicker?

While the rule does address the particulars of that particular game, but I think it missed the mark overall.

Excuse me if this has been addressed already.

Pats rookie Chase Winovich waxing poetic on ig -
Lowliness is young ambition's ladder,
Whereto the climber-upward turns his face;
But when he once attains the upmost round
He then unto the ladder turns his back,
Looks in the clouds, scorning the base degrees
By which he did ascend.

It's just preseason & he's not in competition for a starting job, but XSF played with the Cowboys 1st team Saturday & he looked pretty good on their first drive. 97 yards capped with a rushing TD.

Had a desire to see how Dalton Risner, Kansas State was doing with the Broncos. Turns out, Mike Munchak is his OL Coach and he's signing the praises of Dalton Risner. Risner was placed at RG and has flat done his job. They're expecting him to be the starting RG going into the season.

This is one guy I had high hopes for becoming a Texan. Munchak as OL Coach would've been a bigger move if OB felt safe in hiring a potential replacement should he crap the bed.

EXCLUSIVE: Carli Lloyd Has Received An Offer From An NFL Team To Kick In A Preseason Game

Gotta admit, if this is true I'm not a big fan of the idea.

Frankly I think she likely has the stuff to make the kicks. She's shown a little of that already. But she hasn't done it in pads, in a helmet, with a packed line of scrimmage raging in front of her, etc. But that's not even my biggest concern, at all. Let's just give benefit of the doubt that she could perform the task in a live game situation as that wouldn't come as a complete surprise either to be honest.

How many times have we seen kickers with their hands on the ball in the event a kick is blocked? Like, plenty. And so what happens then? This sounds like a ridiculous predicament for whoever ends up barreling toward her from the other team more than anything. Do you light her up? I mean, you have to right?

Nope, don't like this at all.
