Welcome to Houston Kahale Warring

OBrien was the Offensive Coordinator in New England when they drafted Gronkowski and Hernandez in the same draft... and added Alge Crumpler in free agency the same off-season. I don't think adding Warring means we are moving on from Akins and/or Thomas.

OB was QB coach in 2010. Crumpler essentially didn't play.

What stud wrs? Texans have 1. Much like the AJ 80 days , the Texans dont believe in giving the qb weapons, but at least AJ had Owen Daniel's and later Foster.

Umm they spent a 1st on Fuller,, a 3rs on Akins, a 4th on Coutee.

Dude is very fluid for being so big. What I see is an 8-12 yard safety net again and again and again. Has the movement skills to be good. I see he has a high ceiling.

Thomas is larger in every way and was athletic enough to play WR in college. Akins started out at WR and kick returner. I agree Warring is a very hopeful on potential luxury pick.

So other than drafting an undersized LB ahifted to FB who would have been UDFA, we did squat for RB AFTER PASSING ON THE TOP RB TO REACH FOR A COULD START WITHIN 2 YEARS OT.

I'm sorry, did you get the impression I like this pick?

He has talent but I hate the pick.

TE predictions:

Griffin will be cut. Akins might move to more of an HB roll. Warring will be starting TE. Thomas will be the 2nd TE.

I'm thinking like this, if Hopkins needs to miss time, then what? Or just like last playoffs, nobody could lift the double team off him. In the superbowl, BB doubled woods and singled up Cooks. Against KC, he did the same with Hill and Watkins had a big day. How do the Texans beat that philosophy?

Dude. We got a FB.

The NFL is a league that is quick to correct inefficiencies like an all pro TE going 5th round. Not always with 100% results but a player like Warring who is similar to Kittle coming out goes in 3rd round instead of 5th.

And when there is a similar prospect to Saints all pro LT Terron Armstead (from SWAC school Arkansas Pine-Bluff ) in Tytus Howard he goes in the 1st after Armstead falls to the 3rd :)

Steel, I value your opinion on college recruits because I know you do your due diligence. And I don't want to derail the Warring thread, but this is the best place to pose this question since you made this comment here. Does Dillard coming from Leach's air raid system, with quick set pass protection and limited run blocking experience (see below) not deter you from his scheme fit with this iteration of the Texans.

Just an FYI. The way you can address a subject that doesn't belong under a certain thread, but more appropriately in another..............copy the post you are responding to, and paste it into the more appropriate thread..........and respond to it there. I've tried to do so when the situation arises, and it works well for me.........and the poster you are responding to will still receiver an alert for him to respond.

Probably my favorite pick besides the CB from Kentucky... DW4 throwing to him is going to ELEVATE his game and Ryan Griffin is a step slower than this guy which means this guy is going to be able to get out and BLOCK when DW4 decides to run!
I'm expecting a similar season to season 1 for Deshaun...

Not only do you got KEKE, you got Warring... AND, a half decent (IMO) Offensive Line trending upwards with a veteran presence...

Just worried about my RB Corps is all...

He is definitely fast out of the blocks. A target that can get open and uncover quickly when DW4 needs to make a hot read.

This kid is going to break all kinds of Records!
It's kind of a good thing that Gronk retired. He was going to get shown up anyway.

I like this pick. He can run routes and block. I did not like the Jordan picks last year.

What?!.. Jordan Thomas was a damn steal in the 6th round. He's going to be a damn good player himself..

Now Akins in the 3rd last year, yeah.. I could've done without that crap.

Yeah Gaines doesn't do so well in the earlier rounds but I actually think that's a good strategy because you don't wanna be paying TOP TIER TALENT in 4 years when you've got DW4 and DHOPS contract.. while simultaneously trying to pay Clowney when you've already lost MAJOR value on the JJ Watt contract...not to mention the FA signing like Aaron Colvin which had me like...#(*&$(&#&(&#...

Lost major value on the Watt contract?

I've always wanted an athletic, dual purpose TE here that can create mismatches and screw up defenses. I've watched TEs wreck the Texans for years, so maybe I'm just envious. This guy legitimately could be that guy. I love the pick. I understand what y'all are saying about O'Brien's usage of the TE position, but hell, he sucks at using most positions. He's been terrible with the OL, but we keep hoping he'll draft more.

I kept hoping he would get fired and his successor would draft more ….

I've decided Warring is my favorite pick in this draft. And I like the value at several spots with Scharping/Omenihu/Crawford where they were picked. But this pick reminds me of the Justin Reid pick last draft.

2018 - Tons of greater needs on the roster. Team just signed Honey Badger, plans to move K Jax to safety and Hal a solid option as well... but Justin Reid is BPA at pick. Take Reid and he shows elite potential year 1. Fast forward to year 2 none of the options ahead of him in HB, K Jax and Hal are on the team anymore and Reid is the rising star of the DB unit. Had they gone strictly for need they would have no doubt taken a lesser player to fulfill the quick fix.

2019 - Again tons of greater needs still to be addressed. Albeit they hit on the biggest ones with 1st/two 2nds. But could still say TE is a position to feel safe about with the Jordans/Griffin/Fells... but Warring is BPA at pick. Hopefully now that we took Warring he shows the same level of potential year 1 as Reid did! I like the Jordans long term potential but not enough to pass on a player with Kelce/Kittle/Ertz upside in the 3rd. Griffin has been replacement level for a couple seasons now and Fells is a stopgap blocking specialist to help keep DW4 in one piece until the young OTs/TEs show they can adequately protect him when called upon.

Warring can catch, Warring can block... Warring walks into NRG being the best TE on the roster. And i'm excited to see if OB finally opens up the playbook for the TEs like he did when he had the talent in NE with Gronk/Hernandez. I still like the Jordans (and I think the team does too). I just like Warring better. The position should be secured for years now and i'm excited to see what DW4 can do with them!

Accomplished safety v potential. Not seeing the comparison. DeMeco & Reid makes sense. Footballers that fell to where it's just stupid not to take them.

And yet Warring’s production was in-line with Hockenson’s as a % of the passing offense when taking into account the team’s run heavy nature (also why he’s more developed as a blocker than any TE on roster minus Fells). Same concept as why Kittle’s production was high in college as percentage of team’s passing offense. A lot more than just a dismissive “potential” tag here but I get your role is to play devil’s advocate on this forum.

Warring is also a good route runner. But, because of the system he was in, he is not a proven pass blocker.

I found this little tidbit:

Warring has caught passes from Texans quarterback Deshaun Watson informally before in the Los Angeles area. Now, they're teammates.

"I'm thrilled," Warring said. "I actually got a chance to catch a few passes from him in the past. I think he's an unbelievable player. I can't wait to get with him and start working on things. I think he's such an unbelievable leader."

Great lists

Etienne and pno of the Alabama Wr's would look great on Kirby. I also really like Reagor alot. A great replacement if WFV can't stay healthy.

I love Etienne and Shenault. Ruggs is a great athlete but Jeudy is a much, much better football player. I really like A.J. Dillon as a two-down bruiser. He's a more athletic Jordan Howard.

Proce is a slot so he won't be drafted as high but he's incredible. He absolutely torched Michigan last year. The only other guy to do that was Parris Campbell.

Thanks for the heads up on Process.

I think Harris is going a much better pro RB than college.

A little strange to see a 3rd rounder not signed with all others above and below already signed.

Wonder who his agent is? Maybe one of those guys who like to stretch things out?

Just did a little reading on Warring. Report said he needed to learn how to block and had too many drops.

What's the fascination? Especially with the TE's already on the roster. Not down on the signing, just wondering out loud.
