At the beginning of the streak when we had Watson/Hopkins/Fuller/Coutee all on the field that was a scary offense that looked like it could light up any defense.

Trouble was when one piece of that group was removed there was no one that could step in to take their place. After that I agree we were on borrowed time.

There were 5 primary pieces missing from this offense....an OL. I could only imagine what Watson, Hopkins, Fuller, Coutee, the Jordan's and even Miller / Foreman would deliver if Watson truly had time to go through progressions and the running game had consistent run blocking.

2- OL, 1-WR and 1- RB could go a long way towards moving the offense towards an upward trend.

Not sure Watson was at the point he could go through progressions. He seemed to lock in on either Hopkins or Fuller

More in reference to this with that statement......did you see a 11 win team playing the Colts? What I saw was a 5 win team at best who just happened to have 11 wins when they played the Colts. The Texans resembled a 5 win team versus the team that really got some lucky bounces to wind up with 11 wins. Big disappointment. I hope Gaine has another solid draft and the team can get some solid contributions from at least 3 of their picks early on, which should indicate that the OL has gotten better......just a hope.

I saw a team that won 11 games in the regular season that lost a playoff game where their weaknesses were exploited. There is no opinion in the fact that 11 times the Texans scored more than the other team. 5 win team that got lucky is an opinion that some on this board that is not worth the energy fighting.

With the NFL particular, I will take weak 11 wins over 10 spots in the draft.

Look at the state of the talent on the roster and all of the holes that need to be addressed. That's with what I considered to be a really good draft last year.

Luckily I'm not the GM, but I'm only seeing Center, DT & MLB as pressing need. We disagree on LT, I know (& I'm not against upgrading).

The Texans added a starting CB, Safety, Nickle corner. We both agree Fulton can play. They like Henderson, signing him a 2nd time to start at RT. As bad as the OL was, Henderson wasn't part of it as he was hurt week 1.

I'd love another RB, but I don't feel it's a must have position. I'd most likely draft a CB, can't have too many. I'd draft another WR.

We need depth & developmental guys for the OL, but we also need someone to develop them.

Gaine feels that there are starters in day one and day two at the cornerback position. Also, might stretch it to round four. #Texans

Gaine feels that the #Texans can land "very good footbal players" if they sit at 54 and 55 in the second round.

Gaine says S Tashaun Gipson played a lot of man coverage vs. TEs, plus possessed versatility and height/weight/speed combo #Texans like to see.

Brain Gaine feels that Gipson and Reid will be there starters and that there are young players on the roster that could possibly fill the third safety if the draft if need be. #Texans

— patrick (@PatDStat) April 18, 2019

Mentioned it on our podcasts this week that the #Texans have a better shot at landing a right tackle where they sit in the first round than a LT. Sure seems it’s lining up that way with Gaine’s comments today.

#Texans GM Gaine on expectations for OT Matt Kalil: "To compete for starting role, He's had some bad luck w/ injury. We're hoping Matt returns to form & we have a starter here in the building. He's here to compete w/ Julien Davenport, the best player will get the job." @KPRC2

Gaine says Will Fuller V is anticipated to be ready to go in Week 1 at New Orleans. "Everything is trending in the right direction. Everything is looking good." #Texans

By next week at this time we'll know a lot more about our GM. And a whole new round of bash-the-Texans Hierarchy begins. Which side will you be on? Who will you hate the most? How much smarter are you than the dumb ass Texans? (A loaded question for sure.)

I predict disharmony, hateful posts, and another year of frustration and excuse making. :)

I'm gonna call smarter than the Texans now. But that's a low bar.

I predict a couple of guys begging us to give O’Brien a couple more years because the alignment is at least a “three year plan.” I have faith in Gaine, but absolutely ZERO in O’Brien and his loser O-line wannabe coach.

I'm hoping, against hope, that the majority of our offensive problems, outside of talent, is the QB's ability to see & communicate to the team. As said, hopefully we have a new OC & QB coach because the other guys weren't particularly good at getting our QB up to speed.

You mean the Texans Mike Devlin ?
Why I heard a report that someone once called Devlin the "Knute Rockne of NFL Oline coachs".

Well, I’m not sure how I feel about the most important pick being used in Tytus Howard. Seen some pretty good stuff on him, but he wasn’t even on my personal list of targets. I had Dillard, Taylor, Risner, and Little being my last choice. Maybe Gaine knows what he’s doing, idk...

Honestly, I can't say nothing about it. I thought the Eagles were crazy for drafting Carson Wentz.

In general, I love this pick because Gaine/BOB are getting their guy over drafting off what the mock drafters think. If nothing else, they will have to sink or swim based on their evaluations.

Hard to argue against this …. but I'm gonna throw it out there - OB always seems to become enchanted with a project or two at the Sr Bowl.
How many of them have worked out in the past ?

This pick sure looks like another case of that Sr Bowl falling in love …. but he coulda gotten this prospect at least a round later if not two rounds.

Hope it works out ...

Devlin works out Howard just like he worked out Davenport.

Whatever could go wrong?

Well

Guys raw as can be though.

His hand placement at the Sr Bowl practices would've made a summo wrestler proud.

This can be coached out, what do you think is going to Happen to Howars with Devlin coaching him up?

This is the reason why I’m not enthusiastic at all. Do I think Howard was a reach? Yeah, I do. Do I think with the right coaching he can be a great starter and beyond? Sure. But he got manhandled but sweat at the senior bowl. I don’t foresee him growing under OB and devlin

Time to pull for Devlin. I hope he's not past learning and developing as a coach and maker of men. The Texans really need Devlin to get better results than he's (apparently) gotten in his coaching career so far. I'm not going to denigrate Devlin, he may be a great guy we'd all like as a good friend. But we'll need to see Tytus Howard reach his potential sooner rather than later.

Also saw a couple of times he handled Sweat easily

And I heard he did well at the senior bowl. But the fact of the matter is a superior franchise with a superior GM came in and swooped our player because we pretty much broadcasted the fact that we need OL. That’s what happens when everyone and their mother (literally) talks about how bad the OL is and you do nothing in free agency or the trade market to fix it. Every team knew where we were going. Ian Rapoport even tweeted saying Dillard was our guy before philly jumped in. It’s a rookie mistake by a young GM. That’s what I can’t live with. We should all be rejoicing that we got the best pure pass blocking LT in the draft, instead we’re all sitting here wondering did we draft the next terron armstead or did we draft the next julien Davenport/highly athletic tackle that flames out of the league in 3 years. When you have that glaring of a need, to hell with your “at bats” as Gaine likes to call it. You part ways with that irrelevant day 3 pick and you take care of your golden ticket.

It sure looks to me that Gaine was "taken to the woodshed" last night. He took "a knife to a gunfight!" He was "playing checkers when Philly was playing chess!" But what makes it worse, to me anyway, is that he took Howard, a player that probably would have been there in the 2nd round for them! He didn't do what he said he would do and that's take the BPA regardless of position. He reached and took a player they probably could have gotten later! I hope I'm wrong about all of this and maybe Howard will turn out to be a good pick but, right now, it just doesn't feel that way.

Manhandled by Sweat at the senior bowl? What game were you watching? I saw the complete opposite.

He's talking 1 rep in practice where Sweat ducked inside and bull rushed him and knocked him on his kiester
If that’s the case, our O-line too has “man handled” every defensive front we faced this past season. No need to draft anymore tackles or guards, we got it.

Here’s our new tackle at the senior bowl...it’s...rough. But the talent is there.

My work computer blocks twitter, but Im assuming this is the video that is posted.

Howard looks raw, but he handled his business. Hes playing RT in the vid. Watch the touchdown at about 1:15...he seals off and then DRIVES his man.

Saw him give up on a couple of blocks on roll outs. Im not a competent evaluator, so what do I know?

No, the video posted was one rep from practice

It was more than just one rep in one practice. He had issue adjusting to the speed of the DE's at the Sr. Bowl. Which is understandable due to level of competition. He's talented though. It's up to Devlin to coach him up. How comfortable do you feel about this happening?

Calm down and re-read my post. Not sure where you're getting the "...jumping to conclusions yet again?" stuff.

EDIT: My apologies JB...I thought you might be responding to me, but after reading again, it looks like you were not.
