Vince Young says he has a job at Texas if NFL career is over; LINK

Almost 10 years removed from Rose Bowl MVP honors with the Longhorns, NFL free agent Vince Young said this week that he has a job waiting for him at Texas should his pro career be over.

The position, as described by Young in a report this week from Joseph Duarte of The Houston Chronicle , is an ambassador role that will fulfill several purposes.

“If football doesn’t work out for me, the university has a great job for me,” Young said Wednesday at the Touchdown Club of Houston luncheon featuring new UT coach Charlie Strong. “Just letting you know what (UT) has going on, especially helping kids get scholarships and recognizing things like that. Whatever it is, I just want to support the university.”

 So a guy who can barely read...will be telling kids about...SCHOLARSHIPS!? :headhurts: Yeah and then a guy with hair down to his butt will be conducting a "coping with baldness" support group. A 500 pound gent will give us weight loss tips and a meth head will give us tips on sobriety.

I hope he makes enough to spend $100k on his dinners at The Cheesecake Factory and $1M on his own stupid bday party. Dude is a complete loser.

If anything, Young should be able to use his platform to preach to scholarship athletes about taking advantage of the opportunity to receive a free college education.

This!

Can you think of a better guy to tell kids they should take full advantage of their scholarship opportunities than one who basically blew his chance to get his degree and had his NFL career end badly?

Who better to explain how hot the stove is than one who's been burned?

Actually, he has his degree so not sure what you mean there.

But honestly the amount of hatred that seems to boil around here for the guy is a bit on the extreme side. All I can say is I wish him well. Guy had his issues but overall has never been a bad guy and gave back to his community which is more than some do.

Thanks for the update. And I suppose I should have verified what I'd heard before I posted that he hadn't graduated.
And I don't hate Vince. Hell, for a while, I thought he was going to be somebody the Texans would have to contend with.

Makes you wonder about UT
Athletes are separate and don't reflect schools generally. I spent hours and hours tutoring Cal football players. Not stupid guys, just in over their heads and with an almost full time job playing football.

wasn't intended to reflect on football players in general... and I reckon no school has a class on common sense

I was commenting more on the players. I'll confess to thinking they were meatheads who got passed thru life. But most are not. Now I guess I met the motivated group who wanted and appreciated being at Cal. They were in over their heads, knew it and were asking for help not just to stay eligible.

Most of the guys I tutored were linemen, either side, and the backup QB.

Best usage of a colloquialism ever, OG picked up one of my physics texts, dropped it "awww, hell no!"

Truly funny was several wanted motorcycle rides. I'm "you weigh as much as the bike. Fine, don't fu@kin move, you shift and we're in a light pole."

I wonder if Vince is aware that "Latrine Engineer" isn't all that special. Hell, the position only required a Wonderlic score of 7 or less.
