Tell us how you really feel @Porky... I disagree with you though. Give Henderson a chance before you declare him persona non grata

Maybe, just maybe he will realize his potential, if Devlin doesn't 'coach' him outta that

I could understand signing henderson to the minimum and seeing what happens. But penciling him as starter seems odd

Nothing (everything) should be odd at this time of year

Sgt Schultz factor is predominant

Just because he is penciled in doesn't mean he can't get beat out in TC, and his status as penciled in RT is before FA and draft. I wouldnt put too much stock in it until we see what additions are made to the oline.

Yea he can't really say "I envision us signing Ju'Waun James as our starting RT" or "We are going to draft Cody Ford to start as our RT" He can really only speak on players that are currently on the roster

Why go out of the way to mention this guy at all, much less as a probable starter? His words, not mine.

He could have said something to the effect of "we have some pieces in place that we like, but we're always looking to get better and we know we need to be better there and we plan to do our best to protect our franchise QB".

Instead he mentions Henderson by name and essentially puts him in the starting RT spot.

It really defies logic on so many levels. It's bizarre.

He had just mentioned Henderson in talking about the injuries and expectations of him the starting RT before the injury and oh btw, we've re-signed him and expect him to be the starting RT this year. He's the only FA they have re-signed last year, but you don't want him mentioned?

It makes plenty of sense, because right at this moment Henderson is the starting Right Tackle because
1) Henderson was the starter at the beginning of the season last year and only lost the job because of injury.
2) He signed a contract (1 year only) that say he is probably going to start there until someone plays better than Henderson.

Gaine is basically saying what the everybody knows already...not sure why this is difficult.

because he didn't say the words I wanted him to say so RAGE!!!!!

He basically did say the bolded bit.

Any plan that has Henderson as potential starter is a non-starter for me. At best, he should be thrown into the mix at tackle to see if he can even stick as a backup. Personally, I'd cut him. He has crohns disease, and he hasn't been healthy in 3 years. And it's not like this is Orlando Pace we're talking about here, so why the ultra patience for this guy?

I feel sorry for him. He seems like one helluva nice guy and I wish him well but this is NFL football. If you can't stay on the field and produce AND you have a lifelong disease...I don't even know what to say. I'm completely dumbfounded that his name was even mentioned at all, much less as a probable starter.

If your plans include Henderson, then you're screwed. Extremely disappointed - more like pissed off - that Gaine and BOB seem completely nonplussed about the state of the offensive line.

Actions will speak louder than words, so for now I'll leave it there and shut up and wait for the end result and hope it's all BS and bluster. Once FA and the draft come and go, we'll reevaluate but there better be a plan in place beyond Henderson being the starter at RT. I will ROAST this regime if that is the plan.

They're just penciling him as the starter right now. But I'm pretty sure there will be a competition for several positions on the line.

"Henderson is our starting RT. I'm telling you now!!!"

"Uh... we expect, um... uh. You see... what's the word I'm looking for... dividends. Yeah, that's the ticket. We expect better dividends from Davenport."

"Lamar is our starter. I'm telling you now."

We saw Henderson for less than one game last year. We don't have a clue how he would perform. I'm hopeful that Davenport can improve. I would still take OT early and often. Behind a better OL, Miller can excel. He needs that, though. He's no Foster, who made average RB OLs look special.

His get out of free card is the word 'probable'. And at the end of the day will it be his decision who starts where?

I'm chalking this up to off-season speak. Any resemblance between what's said now and what actually happens is either (a) obvious to the casual observer or (b) purely accidental. :)

Based off the 2018 draft I get the hunch gaine drafts mostly BPA- not need.

Aside from ol and cb, what do you guys want to see drafted?

TE with late round pick or UDFA. I just want Griffin gone so we need a third body. Ready to roll with the Jordans as well

I think his last name is Sokol and he played for Michigan State. Big TE who excels in blocking. He can catch the ball but the Texans have the Jordan's to handle those duties.

I am not opposed to keeping Griffin one more year for his experience while the Jordan's develop - as long as he is not the featured TE and the two Jordan's get the majority of the playing time.

This comment may belong in the drumk thread
And I don't even drink.

Yeah, I knew it would not be a popular opinion. I want to see them roll with the Jordans next year. If they do that, I wouldn't mind some experience on the bench. If that is Griffin, I am okay with that. It would be nice to use that third TE slot to develop another young player, but I am not quite comfortable with the Jordans and a rookie considering the TE position is one of the more difficult positions to learn in the NFL.

I'm for replacing Griffin with a guy that might not be well rounded TE but a guy that would be an upgrade as a blocker and can be used in the RZ. Luke Stocker type TE is a cheap guy that I'm looking for.

“I really believe that you want to try to improve the guys that are on your roster,” Coach O’Brien told the press when discussing growth of guys on the roster versus signing free agents. “There is some so-called churning that takes place during the year on the bottom part of the roster. That’s always going to be the way that we do things. Relative to the core players, whoever you would determine those guys are, we always want to try and improve those guys and not just have to go out every year and bring new players in.”

“We have guys on our team, the majority of players on our team that understand the culture, the work ethic, the competition in practice, how we lift, how we eat, how we train – everything,” said O’Brien. “You would like to try and keep as many of those guys in place to continue to develop them and watch them improve.”

“Certainly in areas where maybe you need some help… you go out and look at a free agent, but you better make sure that guy fits what you are trying to do,” O’Brien said. “That’s the tough thing about free agency. It’s not like the draft where you can see these guys all the time and spend a lot of time with them. You have to go off of what you know about that player and maybe talk to other people about that player. You really want to build it through the draft, with your younger players, with a mixture of your veteran players that understand the culture and keep trying to improve that way. No doubt about it.”

“I think that’s one of the goals this year is to improve our team the best way we can personnel-wise, whether it’s bringing some of our own free agents back or with the draft, which is why we’re here right now – this process of the combine,” said Coach O’Brien on ESPN’s NFL Live. “But also adding talent and building a team that can be a team that can win in January. That’s the big key and that’s what we’re trying to do here.”

Hmmm. Sounds like a guy invested in the guys on the roster. As if these were guys he picked to be here.

Here’s hoping for breaking news regarding the Toros! Make something happen, Brian Gaine!
Wednesday will be the day.
If nothing substantial has materialized by Thursday afternoon, then that will be cause for concern and the chicken littles will have reason to start panicking.

The only thing that I ask of GM/HC combo (BO'Gaine) is by the time training camp opens is to have displayed and executed a plan that is supposed to make the 2019 Texans better than 2018 Texans. Like everyone, I will comment on moves and some I will love some, hate some, not understand some and probably most I wait and see how it works out. Not sure why I am supposed to :firehair:when the Texans are not a part of the seven trades that have been agreed upon as this typing.

So what will be the excuse for not getting Brown. And will Gaine get blasted for sitting on his thumbs.
Yeah, I’m pretty sure we dodged a bullet by not signing Brown just like we did by not signing Solder. I’m good cause I didn’t want them overpaying for another NE reject since we don’t have their top of the line coaching staff that can get the most out of them anyway. What I am hoping for is to get Mathieu resigned or go after his replacement along with a corner or two. Other than that, I’m cool with waiting for the draft.

If Mathieu wants to get paid full market value he wont be a Texan, it's the McNair way.

Both Bob and Gaine told everyone what they were going to be doing in Free Agency... Yet people never listen.
yep. out of the horses' mouths....

When it comes to their philosophies about stocking the roster, O'Brien and Gaine are on the same page.
"I don't think you want to build it through free agency," O'Brien said. "You want to build it through the draft so you can mold the guys. I don't think you want to bring in a bunch of free agents.[/QUOTE]

I didn't want a bunch of FA additions, just a couple of impact FA additions and keeping there own FA's within reason, say HB or KJax but not both.

Instead the signed Bradley f'n Roby and Gipson.

There's a big difference between signing a bunch of FA'S and spending $$$$ on a couple of impact FA's. Why didn't Gaine/BOB just come out and say, we aren't signing any FA's that cost $$$$ but we're going to really try to sign a couple of FA's like Robey/Gipson on the cheap and let the fans know this was their plan before season ticketholder renewals? I can tell you why, they didn't want to let their fans know they were going to be cheapasses until they got the fans $$$$ in the bank.
