NFL Random Thought of the Day

I'd bet Elway is willing to make him the highest paid backup in the league.

Well McCown made $10 last year, Case has a cap hit of $18 with $10 mil in dead cap space($3 from the signing bonus, $7 of his salary is guaranteed) I'm trying to figure out how John could spread that $18 million out, and still make it beneficial for Case to stick there instead of taking his money and signing another contract as a premium backup or bridge starter

If Case can get a bridge starter job like McCown it's one thing. I don't see Keenum getting paid more as a backup elsewhere.

but the thing is Case is already up $7 mil if he is cut this year, that money is guaranteed no offset language. John I'd imagine wants to get Case's cap hit under his $10 mil in dead money otherwise he would just cut him. So can Case make $3+ on the open market to add to his $7 he is guaranteed to get from this year to beat what John wants to knock him down to? I think he can easily McCarron and Chase Daniel are making $5 each, Glennon $4, Fitz/Henne/McCoy/Stanton all making over $3.

Elway has to hope that CK agrees to remain on board as a backup with no chance to compete for QB1. I think CK will stay on QB2 to collect his paycheck and Elway will cut him to avoid fan backlash if Flacco fails to deliver.

With Giants stating they'll keep Manning.....CK may be looking at QB2 duties in the NFL.

Between Flacco's back and hip problems, CK is likely to see the starter position to return to him sooner than later if he stays in Denver.

I have a hard time thinking Elway is so ducking set on Flacco while he's essentially stuck with Keenum. He should stick with CK and draft his QB of the future and let CK handle the bridge. He has traded for Flacco which could compound his perceived problem. Damn, sounds like the same mistake the Texans made.

Also, Elway obviously didn't take into account he stuck CK behind a gawd awful line. When his trade for Flacco is official he should allow for an open competition for the QB1 spot instead of just handing it over to a QB who's been pretty lousy of late.

he doesn't have to sign Flacco, he already traded for him(well it will be official when the league year starts) and Flacco is under contract for 3 more seasons

Jason Witten coming out of retirement, will return to Cowboys for 2019 season

Dallas Cowboys tight end Jason Witten has decided to end his retirement and will return to the Dallas Cowboys. The Cowboys announced they agreed to contract terms that will bring Witten back as a player for the 2019 NFL season. Witten retired last year to pursue a broadcasting job with ESPN’s Monday Night Football. According to the Cowboys, this was completely his decision and he said he’s looking forward to getting back to playing. “The fire inside of me to compete and play this game is just burning too strong,” Witten said....

As a broadcaster, Jason Witten was no Emmitt Smith.

Actually, Witten was very much like Emmitt Smith. My bad.

Any guesses on who the next ex-Cowboy that will be in the booth? I guess league rules demand that it's a Cowboy.

Randy Gregory and David Irving have some extra time on their hands.

Owner Arthur Blank has made more money by selling food for less. So going into next season, the Falcons are going to make their hot dogs even cheaper.

The team announced a drop of concession prices for five items at Mercedes-Benz Stadium, including making their famous $2 hot dog a $1.50 hot dog.

They lowered the prices on a number of food items in 2017, and saw a 16 percent increase in revenues, as the goodwill generated by affordable concessions made fans likelier to loosen their wallets and their belts.

Other teams should take note of this.

The Bills GM says trade for Antonio Brown not happening.

https://www.buffalobills.com/news/statement-from-brandon-beane-on-antonio-brown

“We inquired about Antonio Brown on Tuesday, and kept talks open with the Steelers. We had positive discussions, but ultimately it didn’t make sense for either side. As great a player as Antonio Brown is, we have moved on and our focus is on free agency.”

Cowboys’ David Irving quits NFL over weed policy while smoking ‘blunt’

What a dumbass. So, you have a kid and you’re going to throw away a potential for millions so that you can smoke pot? Oh and yes, I do want fries with that.

It's for a 6th. He's played 12 games in the last 2 years.

I would give up a 6th for a guy who could start 6 games while a rookie was learning the ropes.

Or a guy that could start 6 games and tag team him depthwise so there would be servicable RT play unlike what they had last yr, in addition to spending higher draft capital in the draft or FA on a LT and move Davenport's sorry ass to the swing OT position which is probably where he needs to be. They just need to invest in the OL heavily. So far not so good.

Three highest paid non-QBs in the NFL, by APY ... • Bears OLB Khalil Mack $23.5M • Rams DL Aaron Donald $22.5M • Raiders WR Antonio Brown $19.8M Holdout, holdout, trade demand. Same as it ever was -- if NFL players want to get paid, they have to be willing to get muddy.

Did he hold out? LeVeon Bell did & that probably primed the well for Brown, but AB didn't get muddy.

Gurley's knee is severely arthritic. As I warned during his draft, although not reported his 2014 knee injury was not a simple ACL, but included damage to his articular cartilage and meniscus structures...........time would definitely be his enemy. Despite this, the Rams rode him hard and put him up wet.

The Raiders think tank still remains challenged when making deals............they didn't have the money to pay a stable Mack (most important position after QB), but had the money to pay nut job like Brown.........it won't end well............and the Raiders will continue to be the Raiders. Look out Derek Carr.
