Game 2...The Tacks...Tennessee Titans!

JamTex

Hall Of Fame Texans Fan!
On Sunday, September 16th, your Houston Texans will travel to Nashville Tennessee to take on the Tennessee Titans at Nissan Stadium at 12 noon CT. The game will be aired locally in Houston on TV on CBS 11 and on Radio on Sports Talk 610.

Hopefully, The Texans offense will make some much needed corrections and get on track to being the offense we know they can be. Hopefully Will Fuller and Keke Coutee can get healthy and help this offense move the ball much better then in the Patriots game. The defense looked stout at times and leaky at other times. They should be able to get things on track and start playing more dominant defense. JJ looked rusty in the first half of the Patriots game but looked almost back to his old self in the second half. That should help light the fire under this defense and get them charged up and ready.

Here are the depth charts.

Now for absolute certainty, the Dolphins are not the Patriots and Ryan Tannehill is not Tom Brady. Yet the Titans lost to the Dolphins by the same score as the Texans lost to the Patriots. Deshaun Watson should be much more effective in this game after getting his feet wet against the Patriots and shaking off some rust. He'll also be much more focused and determined not to have a bad showing like against the Patriots. He should start hitting his receivers better and hopefully he'll get Fuller and Coutee back to boost the fire power this offense has.

The Titans will face a much better defense against the Texans then they did against the Dolphins. Mariota threw 2 interceptions and Gabbert threw 1. Those numbers will be higher in this game. Watt and Clowney will start getting their sacks, quarterback hits and tackles for a loss. That's going to rattle the already shaky Mariota or Gabbert and they'll make allot of mistakes. Tyrann Mathieu, Kareem Jackson, Justin Reid and the other secondary boys should be able to benefit off of the Havoc the front 7 will put the Titans offense through.

The Texans will make amends for that debacle against the Patriots in this one. They want that bad taste out of their mouths and a W in that win column.

The Texans should beat the sorry Titans. But it won't make amends for losing to the Patriots. Beating the Titans only proves the Texans can beat the weaker teams. Losing to the Patriots only proves this team is not the same class as the better teams in the league. I'd feel way better if we beat the Patriots and lost to Titans.

They aren't ready for a team like the Patriots. You're right. But playing teams like the Titans will get the Texans the reps they need to get ready to play those better teams. We'll see as the season progresses.

The Titans were a PO team last year. Are they really that weak ?

I am glad we are playing them so soon after that poor outing against the Patriots. Last year with Watson the team scored 40+.

This is a game that Watson and the rest of the team, including the HC and OC, to press the reset button. I expect them to play and coach to their potential.

Just about every season we beat the lesser teams and lose to the better teams. So I'd say we have plenty of reps beating average to below average teams.

That's true, but this is a new season and the offense was very rusty and off sync. Once they get reps together, Watson should be allot better at hitting his targets and working out of the pocket. He'll be ready when they play the better teams. The first will be when the Texans go to Jacksonville to play the Jaguars in a few weeks and the final test will be later in the season against the Eagles in Philadelphia. Those should be the 2 best teams we face the rest of the season before the playoffs begin.

The history of BoB's teams is they start out slow & then get markedly better as the season wears on...that's happened all but 1 year. I suspect that a match up with the Titans is just what the doctor ordered to help this team.

I expect Watson to play much better
I expect the front 7 to be who we thought they'd be

I agree with you on these points.

I fully expect a win this Sunday without a doubt. There is no reason whatsoever they should lose, the only possible exception to this would be injuries. In real life.

In Texans life OB is still the offensive coordinator which is like giving a monkey a handfull of poo, you know goddamn well that's not a good idea.

Delanie Walker may be out for the season. Without their starting tight end, the Titans are going to be in even more trouble.

There's no "maybe" to it, Delanie Walker is out...i believe he broke his leg and tore some ligaments as well. His career might be done.

They also lost their LT and QB in this game. Were playing without their RT and top 2 draft picks (who are unlikely to play this week). Titans are banged up.

Agreed. Watson showed what he could do last season so I'm confident he will learn from his mistake since he readily admitted he did a poor job on Sunday. Bon on the other hand will cost us again this season. Bet on it.

Is he out though? you go over to the Titans message board, some believe he was yanked for poor play, some say the injury was only a stinger & they were just being cautious. I don't fear him as a player I'm just wondering what his status is.

He evidently suffered trauma to the elbow and 2 separate episodes of prolonged numbness of his hand and fingers. With simple "funny bone" (ulnar nerve) insult, the effect is fleeting. With prolonged or repeat episodes, you must rule out cubital tunnel (ligament damage compression) and even a fracture placing pressure on the nerve. He will undergo nerve conduction studies as well as imaging studies.

I had to like this because good job on putting this together! It deserves more likes because you put some effort into it. I got a like for just writing I had to go to the bathroom. But it was true, I had a longer point to make but couldn’t because I had to doodie. It was one of those that make your legs weak and just fatigue all over but once it’s done...hello world, here I come!

After reading what Vrabel said in response to the play Mariota got injured, which was a totally legal non dirty hit, I wouldn't run the option plays to much. Sounds like he is just going to send his guys on a mission to hit the QB no matter what.

The Texans should beat them pretty badly. Way to many injuries to key players. Vrabel is scrambling to put a team together to put in the field against us.

Thanks brother! I appreciate that.

My feeling is this: The Texans in week one was not ready to contend with the elite teams in the AFC, therefore they lost. The Texans are always slow out of the gate at the beginning of every season under O'brien. Having said that, I could see the Texans being ready to contend with the elite teams later on in the season IF the key players can stay healthy. Watson and Watt for sure.

It's like pee-fighting with skunks. You'll win some battles but lose the war.

Way back then, most of the forum (not I) was crowing about what a good head coach Vrabel would be. Then he demonstrated the Peter principle by becoming DC; he boxed the job. His present status shows what a helpless FO the Oilers have always had and is the reason I picked them last in the division. We win this game handily.

Texans 24
Titans 20

I don't feel confident in that because I would like to see us play well before I say we will win a game. I hope the sloppiness last week was because of the Patriots and not our own doing.

Lots of teams were sloppy in week one. Not yet time to hit the panic button in that area. I'm more worried about bone-head coaching than sloppy play.

Big key to the game is get Watson going early with quick hitting pass plays. I don't want to see long down the field routes that take awhile to develop. Get your young QB going fast, and keep the pass rush from being able to get to him early

Watson last week

ball out in under 2.5 secons 10/11 1 TD passer rating of 129.9
ball out in more than 2.5 seconds 7/23 1 INT and a passer rating of 25.5

Clowney, Watt and Mercilus better show up big time in the stats dept this game. If they don't, rust is not going to be an good excuse as I expect both of the Titans’ starting OTs, Taylor Lewan (concussion) and Jack Conklin (knee) not to be able to play this week. They'll be going against none-to-be feared backup OTs Dennis Kelly and Kevin Pamphile. In addition, Mariota will not be handicapped necessarily because of his feet, but from the looks of the type of elbow injury (or as was initially reported as a "non injury".......just a simple "funny bone" hit), he will be panicking running around looking for some extra time to compensate for pass inaccuracies that are likely a result of his ulnar nerve involvement.

If this game isn't a dominating performance then it should be close to the final nail in O'Brien's tenure as HC...on the other hand, if he finds a way to lose this game....it should be the final nail in his tenure as the Texans HC. Just hand the reins to Crennel to finish the season, then get a mentor in to help Gaine with selecting the next Texans HC while over-seeing the filling out of a competent Coaching Staff.
