I Love That We Have never changed our Uniforms

I see the Jaguars and Titans are changing their uniforms again. Fits well with their off-brand/no brand/tonedeaf organizations.

I might be along in this, but here goes.

I just have to give our organization props. We haven't been around as long as the Packers, but we have some of the best uniforms in football. Modern classics, a true sense of brand, and now that we have been around as long as we have; I am really appreciative of the tradition with the uniforms and logo that has been preserved. It's awesome to have a feel of the Packers or Yankees or teams that have never felt the need to cater and cave and change for a quick buck or silly "right now" direction.

Props to the Texans. We are building something, one small brick at a time. The uniforms, look, and logo are a part of this. I am so glad they never let Nike or anyone else get in their ear and tear it down. Seeing watson - who is about to become the best player in the league and face of football - wearing the same great uniforms we have always had is going to be special. And I think that a lot of fans are going to appreciate it someday that we have always stuck to our brand and tradition. They nailed it when we were awarded a team. They're still nailing it today. Good on you Texans.

I like the Texans uniform options but I was much happier when the team finally gave up on the Battle Red pants. I think the biggest uniform move the Texans could make at this time....kill the Liberty White pants for home games. Steel Blue pants should be their pants for home and away games. The all Steel Blue look at home is just so much more sinister looking. Even the Battle Red jerseys look amazing when matched with the Steel Blue pants. The Liberty White pants should be reserved for the Liberty White-Out Game exclusively.

I like conservative colors for football uniforms. Garish yellow and oranges do nothing for me. Plain old red and blue, or black and blue or whatever are just fine with me.

I would have said I like red, white and blue, but I didn't want another conversation getting started. LOL
Yeah, primary "Red" only seems to work with the Chiefs scheme. Texans full "Battle Red" uniforms were deservedly referred to as the "Ketchup Bottle".

As a once a year thing, all white or all black I like, do not like all red though. I always kind of liked the Raiders silver and black.
Funny, I've always thought the Raiders had the best uniforms in the NFL. The Chargers "old" Powder Blues were always a close second. (**Warning: This next statement includes strong contradiction**) I would include the Steelers but I detest them far too much to do so, even though their uniforms were always pretty righteous.

Texans uniforms don’t really do anything for me.

I’ve seen some cool concept uniforms that didn’t look amateurish.

Biggest issue I have with the uniforms is the lack of helmet choices.
Yeah, they're stale and boring to me. I'd like them changed, especially because we've never had any long term great history or accomplishments in them. In general I like teams to keep their uniforms the way they are unless they add an extra that they wear from time to time. I'd hate to ever see classic teams like the Celtics, Packers, or Steelers change their uniforms who've always kept theirs. As ugly as those old Rockets uniforms were back in the day, I wish we could go back to those. The Texans would be better suited to add Colombia blue to ours instead of the navy blue. Give us that Luv Ya Blue nostalgia back. God, I wish they'd do it.

We have no throwback uniforms to wear. The only reason teams have alternate or change uniforms is to sell more merchandise. In the case of the aforementioned Jags and Titans, they both have just about the ugliest unis in the NFL so any change will be good.

The best uniform in the NFL, in my opinion, is the traditional white jersey's of the Cowboys. I also like the Chiefs, 49ers, powder-blue Chargers and the Bills old logo with the buffalo that just stands there.

PS The Texans shade of red during the all red uniform days was really bad. I'm glad that was ditched.

Agreed about the blue pants. The all battle red is ok on very rare occasions, but steel blue pants regardless of jersey color is the way to go..

The road unis aren't bad..

The blue on blue is strong..

The color rush are just that much fresher..

and the red on blue is next level fierce..

Don't like the all whites either. Looks like pajamas.

No..

I really wish people could just put the Oilers behind them. They're gone and their late asshole owner made sure that franchise would never return to Houston in any fashion. Let them keep everything and let's continue to build our own legacy...a better one.
I can't. Not until the Texans build something to be proud of. I have always felt that our uni's need a change especially after those awful tenures between Capers and Kubiak and OB's tenure not going so well since last season. We've had nothing but bad luck with them, and I can't help it, I miss the Oilers. I just do.

Let's be honest here..outside of the luv ya blue/Bum Phillips/Earl Campbell years and a couple of run & shoot seasons the Oilers history (which started in 1960 as a original AFL team) wasn't much to write home about and there really isn't a whole lot to miss. In 30 years of the SB era they never won a title or reached the game. I know that there's a lot of nostalgia with that team, but their actual success doesn't match it. To this day nationally they're more known for "the comeback" than anything else.

If Watson becomes as great as we think he is/will the Texans will easily surpass the Oilers legacy over the next 5-10 years..just hope he stays healthy. Bud Adams' Oilers didn't exactly set the bar very high.

Uncle Rico

Ur apology should be as loud as Ur disrespect was
Oilers shouldn't have left, damn shame the way everything went down.

I love the Texans. I identify with them as my home team and know the history.

But...

Everytime Tennessee puts on their throwbacks .. I get butterflies. Not the Titans .. the Houston Oilers!

I don't see us really ever changing our uniforms, not at least for the next 10-15 years. We have one of those modern classics looks. I think as we shape into a few years of contending for Super Bowls; and the oddsmakers think we will be in the mix (that means something to me), we will hold onto the look through the next generation of young fans.

Outside of using the Steel Blue pants for both home and away games.....I've got one more simple request. I would love to see the Texans put a Steelers size Battle red stripe on their pants and a couple of Liberty White accent stripes on both sides. That would allow the pants to go both ways.....damnit Bruce...err Caitlin, I didn't mean it like that.

Car Bombed....I've always been in favor of an Oiler infused throwback uniform for the Texans. The biggest F-U McNair could've ever given the Adams Family....bring in a Columbia Blue, Battle Red and Liberty White Throwback Uniform and then sit back and watch the fans go crazy. Those colors do not belong to Tennessee, those are Houston's colors from the past.

Texans could follow the colleges lead by incorporating a Game Day helmet wrap so they don't incur any fines from the NFL Uniform Police b/c they changed the gameday helmets.

I would go really retro Oilers and bring back the Silver helmet, Texans logo with the Steel Blue replaced with Columbia Blue and a new Red Face Mask.

Silver Pants with the fat Columbia Blue Stripe and two Battle Red accent stripes on both sides.

Columbia Blue Home Jersey and Liberty White Road Jersey.

I think the Texans would finally have a throwback uniform that would make the fans proud.

I would include the Cowboys and Colts colors as well. Very simple but stood out. I also like the 49ers colors.

BUENO!
Our uniforms are fine. Subtle adjustments to the way we wear them (like nuking the red pants "ketchup bottle" version of the Battle Red uniforms) are fine but we don't need a new logo, a new uniform, or some bastardized Oilers/Texans hybrid. It's fun to look at but the Texans staying the course here is a good thing. While Jacksonville and Tennessee change hourly the Texans and Colts stay the same eternally. It's good stuff and if you look at the teams that never seem to alter their look you can see pretty quickly that it's mostly good company to be in. Someday, some new owner will put us in new uniforms and when that happens we'll all argue about whether it was a good idea or not. Then our "throwbacks" will come out and we'll all enjoy seeing them again.

That's all I have to say about that.

I know I'm going to be blasted here; however, I feel the need to remind folks that when Bud Adams took the Oilers to Tennessee he took the entire history, team colors and everything with him. It was exactly like what happened to the Baltimore Colts. The grand city of Houston has no claim to the "Luv Ya Blue" or anything Oiler related. It was Bud's final F-U to the city. It is also why I vehemently can not stand the Tennessee Titans.

Personally, I prefer the color scheme the Texans chose 16 years ago. They look clean, sharp and hard working to me. I don't care what combination we have them in. Though, I will say my least favorite was the all Battle Red with a dark helmet. That was just weird.

I agree with this in general, just not for the Texans because I don't like the uniforms as is and never really did. To me they look more like a more boring version of the Patriots uniforms without the silver. I don't know what they need, but they need something. Colombia Blue if you ask me. :howdy:

Yeah I love our uniforms, my favorite is battle red jerseys with white pants, i wouldnt mind switching to those as our primary scheme. I really think a lot of the recent changes around the league are big downgrades, Tampa had one of the best and now look like garbage.

For the Steelers it drives me crazy that they changed the number font from those mean big blocky ones to the gayer comic sans style font.

It really frustrates me too. When they played those two years as the Tennessee Oilers nobody supported them or went to the games. When they changed to the Titans the Oilers were officially "retired" by the league, a first in Nfl history, it was like the Titans started over with a new clean history slate.

Then months later when owners were voting to approve the new Houston team Bud Adams made a deal with the league that the only way he would vote yes was if he got to retain Oilers history, the same history he threw in the garbage just months earlier.

I think whe the Houston expansion team started to become a reality Bud envisioned it being one of those teams like the Cardinals(back in the day) where more people show up to see the road teams, i think he thought/wanted Houston to be like the Titans home away from home and that the Titans would be more popular than the Texans in Houston(probably why he wanted Vince Young so bad).

Well here's the annual jersey thread.
Yep. Unfortunately, this is what fans of perpetually mediocre franchises get to talk about. Friggin' color schemes.

p.s. I understand all the Bud Adams hate, but truth is that all he wanted was what Bob McNair got: a new stadium that he benefitted from revenue to compete with the rest of the NFL. So save some of your ire for those that also deserve it, former mayor Bob Lanier and former Astros owner Drayton McLane. They played Adams like a fiddle.

Pretty colorful. The more history the Texans build the easier it is to let go, only problem is that the only history the Texans have is of incompetence for the most part.

Interestingly enough I feel similar to Bob McNair that you do to Bud Adams.

I might be in the minority but am a big fan of our yet to be worn color rush jerseys. Love the color of the blue, the lettering, everything. Wish this was our home uniform. Go with a red top in the same style for Battle Red and a white jersey for away.
