General draft thoughts.

Texans did a great job on their first two picks - #68 and #80 getting Justin Reid and Martinas Rankin, but dropped the ball with the 98th.
Seems they were going BPA which also happened to fill needs, but then made a pretty big reach to get Aikens at 98. There were so many good players still on the board at this point and they could have justified any of them - Da'Shawn Hand DT, (ranked about 50th), Quenton Meeks CB (mid 50's), Deon Cain WR, (Mid to late 50's), Ogbonnia Okoronkwo and Josh Sweat OLB/Edge (60-65) and even Josey Jewel ILB (70).
All these selections could be justified and work for us.
Let's hope the Texans put their game day caps back on and get some more value with the rest of these picks - starting with #103 tomorrow - another very important pick with so many good players still on the board in this very deep draft.

I'm real excited about Jordan Akins!

His potential is off the charts. He needs more seasoning.
This is a tremendous athlete that played other sports.

Deshaun Watson is going to love him!

Any thoughts on next position to be looking at. In order: RB, WR, CB?
I'm still not completely happy with our Tackle situation but at this point, we are not likely to get a starting LT, so a good all round RB (with blocking ability) would be a good pick imo.
It might be worth trading next years 4th to try to get another pick in this round - perhaps add #211 to it to see if we can get a mid 4th.

I am not disappointed at all. They had a plan and stuck with it. We got three players who I believe will contribute sometime this season. I'm very curious to see who they will draft with their 1st pick in round 4. More n likely best available player or a RB

After doing research on Akins, I'm not really bothered by the pick. He might have been a little early and his age might scare some people off but he dominates in the seam and has twitch to him that most guys his size don't have.

Way more pros to his game than cons.

Biggest issue with him is his age. He needs to play immediately and get comfortable with Watson ASAP. They could build a connection.

Add another pick and target who? Wouldn't mind targeting rotational DLine either especially if there's someone that can get penetration on 3rd downs.

Core superstars are all coming off injury. Coaching is still mediocre at best. Safety position should be better with badge and reid. OL is a mishmash of guys ok in different positions and good at none. Watson is our one saving grace - but he has to be legendary to get us there.

Better then 9-7 is an accident.

Watson made last years OL Look competent .... and I think they were worse than the OL that gave up 72 Sacks with HWWNBM under center.

If these guy's can be mediocre ..... it'll be an improvement and they'll appear much better than they are because of Watson.

Problem is, Watson is coming off injury.

New faces doesn't mean better on the ol. Nobody is a proven talent. And the ol coach is the same.

I think it's pretty funny how our 1st pick Justin Reid thought of by many to be a first round talent has the least posts for his introduction thread.

Rankin coming in a strong second.

But Akins has a commanding lead in post count that looks insurmountable. Instead of talking about our two prospects who are considered steals people want to gather and complain about a perceived reach.

Complaining is what brings attention and ratings.

It's not fun when everyone is in agreement and happy.

With a self imposed, weak, draft - pick quiver, it was imperative that we spend each of those picks, as wisely as possible. I went through all 130 TE listings on NFL Draft Scout and could not find his name. At 6'3, 244, 4.93 - forty, and age 26 during the season, this was not just any old error. It was blatant display of ignorance. Yes, Reid, and Rankin were good choices .... but that does not forgive this pick. It would be different, if all of those numbers were better, and he just turned out to be a bust. It would benefit us to immensely to select Tyrell Crosby immediately today !

The draft always is a Gambe - especially in the later rounds. In the 3d rounds you basically have 2 options: take a „Safe“ pick, someone with a high enough floor that he probably will be able to start before too long, but Not a very high ceiling. Take a flyer on a guy that dropped because of Injury, mechanics or character concerns. That is a high upside guy with a rather Big Chance to bust.

That‘s why it is always difficult to judge a draft. That TE guy is definetly a low floor high ceiling guy - might be a brilliant pick, might be a bust. With our 3d pick I am totally fine with Selektionen a guy like him.

Our first two picks seem Safe with a higher ceiling. We only got 3d round picks, so we don‘t get a real Safe homerun pick anyways. With our picks I am happy so far. Now I would like to get another HB soon and maybe a pass rusher...

Not to put a target on my head, but at this point, what options did we have at TE?

I won’t pretend to know the players in the draft like some of you guys but I don’t like getting players that are 25 years old. This guys better be good sooner because his career window is already shortened. I would have preferred a WR but oh well. I hope these guys work out though.

Yeah plenty of good Dline left here too.
I wish we had another three picks in this round!
I know I said last night we likely won't get a good LT now but upon reflection, Desmond Harrison is still on this board and he is a talented dude.
Deon Cain WR is also still on this board

Or Des Harrison.

Where did you find his 40? I couldn't find it anywhere. Also pretty weird for a guy who runs 4.9 to straight up outrun safeties. (If you watch his film)

Not justifying the pick (Even though, I kind of like it) I just wonder where you got your info.

He didn't run the 40 at his pro day or combine so not sure where you're getting the 4.93 40 from. Watching his tape it's pretty clear he plays much faster than that time.

You're 100% right. Because of his age, his development and adjustment to the NFL needs to be quicker and his results need to start showing in full effect by year 2. I like his tape but his window of opportunity is literally his 4 year contract.

And not that this is a true indicator but but when have the Texans drafted an older player and it worked out? Casey and morency were serviceable but that’s it. We need these bullets to count.

James Casey was a Kubiak crush. This appears to be a crush of someone. They must believe he's a plug and play improvement over what we have. We shall see.

What we know is he had a good Senior Bowl and the coaching staff knows what they are getting. They chose this dude over other options at TE. Some are saying he’s another Anderson, but he’s a bit larger and the staff must feel he offers something Anderson doesn’t. I expect him to contribute immediately. Receiver is a position that has a quick learning curve if he already has the fundamentals.

We still need to find a solid CB.
Quenton Meeks and Anthony Averitt are still on the board.
We still have needs - I would love to see Des Harrison T added here also.
Man, there are some good players available here - Da'Shawn Hand DT, Deon Cain WR, Shakeem Griffin LB, Q Meeks CB.
We can still land a starter @#103 - let's hope Texans FO have clear heads today.
Personally, with so much talent on offer in this round, I would like to see them offer next year's 4th plus say #177 to move back into the middle of this round - we get two more decent players today and I think we as fans can be fairly satisfied considering we had no 1st or 2nd round picks. Adding 4-5 good prospects seems like a boon at this point.

No please, let's not give up any more future picks. If the draft is that deep, trade down and get more picks

Ordinarily I am of the same mind but without 1st or 2nd rounders this year we need all the help we can get and with so many good prospects still on the board, I feel we can get two good ones.
If this was a meh group left, I would agree, but not here. This is a very deep draft and we need help now and the next 30 or so are well worth it.

My thought is they were going to draft bpa, but seems like they didn't after their first pick

I'd expect us to hit RB or EDGE at the first pick. Those positions lack depth where the rest of our picks are at.

DL, LB, and DB are deep into the sixth round.

I like your #98 Texans mock pick Dorance Armstrong here if we go that route. Checks off all the boxes height/length and plays faster than he timed at the combine. Would get on the field passing downs with Clowney kicking down to DE.

Also like Ogbonnia Okoronkwo but doesn't have the ideal length the team looks for.. high motor pass rusher though and will make somebody happy!

Confident in the people that will be on the board for DL,CB, and RB later in the draft.

Man so many options I hope they trade back!

Yep at least my guy Parry Nickerson still hanging: 5'10 4.32 forty 2017: 6 INTs and 8 passes broken up.

Thought he would have gone by now. Wouldn't mind a trade up at this point if we can move Miller.

I have Greg Stroman with our second 6th round pick. 5'11 182 1st team all ACC 4.48 40 and adds to the return game.

Texans will be looking up to Jacksonville for a long time.

Losing ground in draft to already ascending team not a good recipe for success.

his is a qbs league. The Jax will only only as far as Bortles takes them - we had a number 1 defense a couple of years ago but no qb. And they will have pay some guys soon. Plus our core is pretty good as is Watson. If we go healthy I see us as a contender.

All comes down to health now.
However, if DW4 continues to impress, I think we have the edge on offense - and if our stars stay healthy, we can go toe to toe on D.

Some good points here but their core talent is fairly young. They are the cream of the crop in the south. They earned the respect their getting. We're hopeful because of flashes we saw last year and potential.

If he's there in the 6th, sure. Right where I would take the risk.

I hope we get Darius Phillips CB Western Michigan. Would be excellent.

This has been a very different draft experience for me. I've done next to no research on any player except the QBs and have absolutely no idea what to expect out of the guys drafted. I read what everyone posts, but all I can do is hide and watch. Neither pumped up or Debbie downer on any of the picks. Kinda makes OTAs and TC even more interesting to me.
Mayfield was my favorite QB in this draft and it's pretty cool that I'm working in the Cleveland area and can follow his development.

Titans have traded up 3 times in this draft. All for defensive players. Vrabel wants to get exactly who he wants.... Texans made multiple draft day trade ups while Vrabel was here (Louis Nix, Mckinney, Strong) but none today... coincidence?!
