WR BRUCE ELLINGTON (CONCUSSION)

TE C J FIEDOROWICZ (CONCUSSION) HE SUFFERED A CONCUSSION LAST YEAR IN WEEK 14, THEN AT AT AN UNKNOWN TIME IN THE LATE PRESEASON/EARLY REGULAR SEASON PRACTICE, AND NOW IN WEEK 1............NOT SURE THAT HE WAS NOT RELEASED FROM THE CONCUSSION PROTOCOL (WHICH IS NOT EXACT) BEFORE HIS BRAIN HAD ENOUGH TIME TO HEAL/RECOVER............AND THAT HE ESSENTIALLY SUFFERED AN EXTENSION OF HIS PREVIOUS "EVENT".............IN THIS LIKELY SCENARIO, THIS LAST CONCUSSION WOULD NEED TO BE CONSIDERED A MORE SERIOUS EVENT THAN A TYPICAL CONCUSSION...........AND THEREFORE BE HANDLED WITH EXTRA CAUTION (EXTRA TIME) AS FAR AS THE RETURN TO PLAY

DE J J WATT (FINGER) OPEN DISLOCATION OF A FINGER

FULL PARTICIPATION

Who of the concussed players is wearing these new Zero 1 (sp?) helmets.
5 players getting a concussion in one game seems way too high to be fluke or bad luck.

Does the splinting and injury to Hopkins explain his many drops yesterday?
When he took off his glove, he wasn't wearing any protective bandage or splint at all. As I said previously, these would tend to hinder a receiver. If he still had tenderness, it could have affected his play, but he was missing some throws that even tenderness could not explain.

He was too busy wondering where he was going to spend $49M to catch the ball

A response in another thread to Wolfgirl when she asked if Cushing wasn't wearing on of those special helmets:

Yep.........as well as McKinney, Jadeveon Clowney, Hal and Lamar Miller. The helmet will not live up to its name.........ZERO 1

A response in another thread to Wolfgirl when she asked if Cushing wasn't wearing on of those special helmets:

CnD do you know when Cushing went out? I'm curious about the play on NFL Game Pass.

I'm also surprised that all 3 of our TEs got concussions. Generally the TE is bigger than their tackler. It'd be hard to hit the helmet.

In the postgame highlight shows on FOX, information reporter Jay Glazer noted Cushing texted him from the hospital stating this concussion was “a bad one.”

In your expert opinion what does that mean?
It's a player's statement, not a medical analysis. Therefore, it is difficult to determine exactly what his translation into lay terms really means. The more severe concussions are associated with loss of consciousness (any, although the longer the more severe it is considered) and/or extended vestibular symptoms (prolonged dizziness, visual disturbances) and/or persistent nausea/vomiting, increasing relentless headache and pretraumatic amnesia and posttraumatic amnesia. Many of these symptoms are associated with significant slowing of reaction times.

I believe it was at the completion of the 1st half after the multiple goal line stands that he was concussed going head first into the piles. He left the field and went in after half time with the rest of the players................but never came back in the 2nd half.

I heard a sports neurology and neuromuscular doctor today when asked about Cushing's head injury (concussion), Dr. Erin Manning saying that players sent to the hospital for a concussion is unusual and could indicate bleeding.

And that very likely is the last time we’ll see Cushing on the field for us. Great run early, spiraled out after the that. True warrior.

I'm not really understanding the statement out of context. Most patients with the severe symptoms that I mentioned above can be simply associated with brain swelling alone............or can be associated with an intracranial bleed.............they are usually empirically taken to a hospital in order to obtain a CT scan to try to distinguish between the two. MRIs are sometimes ordered, but many times MRIs are only obtained if the significant symptoms persist for 48 hours or more since they are more detailed and are more likely to detect delayed or slow bleeds

What's the rule with returning from IR? You have to be out a certain amount of time or no?

O'Brien said that to determine if Watson would start would be determined by how his ankle fared during practice...........that ankle will certainly be tested, as practice was essentially walk-throughs with players wearing T-shirts, shorts and tampons.

It was at the multiple goal line stand series with around 3 minutes left in the 2nd Q. In those mass of pile ups he went head on, and had to have suffered the concussion then because he never came back into the game after that.

I've found out that Savage's finger injury is on his left non-throwing hand. It should not hinder his passing if he plays Thursday. [I added the extra explanation to today's INJURY REPORT]

If it's the left thumb, wouldn't it make it harder to take in the snap properly?
The thumb is technically/medically not a "finger." It is indeed 1 of 5 "digits." The other 4 digits are comprised of 3 bones (phalanges)......the thumb only 2. The thumb is the only opposable digit because its joints can be moved around to touch the other digits (such as in the act of gripping). Enough for the anatomy lesson...........Nevertheless, taking for granted that the Texans don't know the difference or don't try to make a distinction for the INJURY REPORT (although they have made the distinction in some past INJURY REPORTS), a thumb injury could be well protected without affecting the handling of the snap of a football.

Let's assume that the Texans don't make the differentiation.
The question is thus.
The distal phalanx part, don't you have to close it to catch the ball at the snap?

If it were a stick that he actually had to grasp tightly, it could significantly affect him. But the football is wide and there is more cradling action and using both bodies of the hands pressing together, with little actual tight grasping that is involved in stabilizing the ball. As the QB comes out of the snap, the throwing hand grip takes over until the ball is thrown.

I was always taught to have 11 fingers. take your pinky and say 10 count backwards on one hand 10-9-8-7-and 6. then add 5 from the other hand. Oh well just being silly lol
