Fire Lestar Jean Thread

Ryan

THIS YEAR
Don't know why anyone still likes the guy, and he made two boneheaded plays that killed all of our offensive momentum.

Did he ever come back in the game? I don't remember him being on the field at all in the second half. Rightfully so.

I'm far from a Jean fan, but he made 2 very correctable mistakes. He'll start seeing the field less as Posey gets more healthy.

jean, newton, and keo on defense. if we can correct those personnel errors (and will for two of them), we are significantly upgraded.

I wouldn't even try to correct it. 9 times out of 10, neither gets called. Ok... 8 out of 10.

The first player he got locked up with fell backwards, had nothing to do with the play, wasn't going after the ball.

The second one, he fell backwards & the player he was engaged with was running over him.

He let go a half a second too late.

No big deal.

I didn't see much out of Jean, but I thought both of his calls were pretty ticky tack stuff. Those kinda blocks happen on every play and they never get flagged

Ok.. TK what part of holding do you understand? I do not understand why you think this was a minor hold it was glaring obvious in the middle of the field both times.

#1 you can't hold outside the shoulder pads which he clearly did, then pulled on the jersey on the outside this will get flagged 99% of the time.

#2 if you are falling down and clearly grab the jersey and pull down the guy you are blocking this will get flagged 99% of the time as well.

I'm not sure why you think these plays were ok.

I'm with you that they could have easily been no calls, but with experience he'll learn how to not even make it close. Not releasable offenses in my view though.

Most holds never get called. If so JJ Watt would draw a flag on every play. :swatter:
The refs were ticky tack on a lot of calls this game. The holds especially.

It's easier to call a hold on the outside. Jean was unnecessarily holding on both plays. We don't know if or how many other plays that he held, because they weren't called. A clear example of a guy who doesn't know what he's doing. He's not a NFL WR.

I would bring in Leon Washington and Joshua Cribbs. If both are healthy, I would sign 1,let martin focus on the slot, and cut jean. Cribbs or Washington upgrades the kick and punt teams instantly. Cribbs can be the 5th wr, washington can be the 3ri
d down back.

Keo made 2 HUGE plays today. Not a huge fan of his but can't put him in the errors mark for today at least.

he made one huge play, and it was on special teams. i'm looking at the replay and cant say the ball gets caught regardless (yes it was a great hit). he also let several go. the first play of the second half is the first to come to mind. that play doesnt get made with reed on the field because A) the ball doesnt get thrown, or B) reed picks it off. keo is too slow to the ball, on that play joseph is absolutely perfect and keo is 4 yards behind.

Yah on the first play of the half he just stood and watched JJ fight the guy for the ball you got to get in there and at least get a hit on the guy and try to break the ball free.

It was Keo's audible on the fake punt, Kubiak had no Idea until the play was snapped. Good call by Keo.... I heard him talk about it on the post game show......

dont get me wrong, i have no problem what so ever with keo, i absolutely love specialists. my problem is that keo is a specialist and has no business playing defense. braman only slighty less so - and only because he's in more of a hustle position. these guys are special teamers, great special teamers - but ONLY special teamers. he was the weakest link - not crick or swearinger or mccain. dilfer was correct when saying that san diego kept exploiting matchups ... those matchups are tilted much more in our favor with glover quin or ed reed on the back end.

He made many mistakes tonight, and I hope he is able to correct them. He doesn't do this every game that he plays in.

I am much more concerned with our defense giving up touchdowns to great QBs. This is the kind of score you expect from a Texans' game back in 2010, and we all remember the great D of that year! :vincepalm:

I would really find it hard to believe that the head coach would be completely in the dark about a fake punt.. heads would have rolled if that failed and he didnt' make the call to do it.

This whole Keoo talk reminds me of the KJ talk a couple of seasons ago. People wait for him to make a mistake and then see every mistake as a proof that he sucks. Don´t get me wrong, I don`t think he will ever show that much improvement as KJ, but he had a good game today. Great on ST, two great hits on defense that broke up a pass and one near interception.

He improved a lot since his rookie season to a point where he is serviceable at least as a backup and a ST ace right now.

They showed that stat after halftime...... No TDs to Aaron Rodgers (that's not how I remembered it), 2 TDs to Peyton, can't remember now, 2 TDs to another "elite" QB, 4 TDs to Brady, 4 TDs to Luck (over 2 games)..

I was like, "Really?? How many TDs did everyone else give those guys?"

This. Those calls would hardly be called but the player going down brought attention to it. Simple fact of the matter is there is holding on basically every single play. The goal is for it not to be seen which is why it is preached to keep your hands inside. Unfortunately for Jean, both were quite visible because of what TK pointed at.

No need to go kicking Jean to the curb.

Lestar isn't great, but he's a better receiver than Keshawn.
--I think I'd rather put him on the chopping block than Jean.

Hopefully Posey materializes, because the only negative I
saw during the rally was how much Matt locked in on
AJ.

That probably won't work against the better defenses in
the league if we get down again..

Thank you!

Keo also made a TD saving tackle on one play in the red zone; unfortunately, the Chargers went on to score anyway.

But it doesn't matter, when you don't like the guy, you just don't like him.
That's how it works. :peek:

If we were looking for someone to replace KDub.... I'd agree. LeStar will never be a #2 WR on any team, go ahead & cut him.

But we're not even asking him to be the #3 receiver, he'll be a fine 4. & When Posey gets his groove, he'll push Keshawn down & LeStar will be a fine 5.

Next year, he'll most likely not make the team even if we keep 6.

I don't want WRs blocking huge guys on LOS; downfield is a different issue. Jean on second penalty was bulldozed and held to keep RB from getting crunched and a possible fumble. Not saying he planned but was instinctual thing to do. It looks bad when it costs a long gain and then a 15 yd flag but if Foster had been hit straight up and fumbled I'd really be mad at Jean. Again, in that play, a WR should basically just get "in the way" and hope he does not get injured.

While Keo did not get the INT I predicted, he did play much better than many thought he would.

Keo was pretty solid when he got on the field last year. He didn't make an impact like he did last night, but he wasn't a waste of space like Demps was.

I'm not much of a Lestar Jean or Keyshawn Martin fan but at least Martin is doing a pretty good job on special teams. Jean is I suspect one of those guys who just doesn't ever put it all together. He kind of tantalizes you with his ability and in practice/preseason but he never seems to put it together during the regular season when you need him to.

Martin is much the same but again, he's getting it done on special teams. Having said that I don't think he's really anything special there but more important than that I don't think you can afford to keep more than one of those guys around at a time for very long. If Martin continues to return kicks I think next year Jean is gone. We'll find another guy like him who might put it together or maybe Andy Cruse or Lemon will be that guy.

I just think the window on Lestar Jean is closing around here. Those were brutal mistakes. He'll get plenty of chances to put them behind him but I just don't think he will be able to make it happen.

Pffft. The dude is a preseason HOFer! :kitten:
